LOGINCOLE'S POV
My wolf hearing picked up the strange girl murmuring, "You're mine Cole." I was taken aback and paused to gaze at her, where I noticed her cheeky smile. My wolf shouted for me to flee. I'm weak— a wolf without a pack, and I might not be able to withstand what comes my way if they figure out who I am.
I jogged away from her, hoping to get away from the prickly
sensation I'd been having around her as much as to reach safety.
I love the forest, and it is where I find solace; but, the fact that their house appears to be close to it is concerning. After all, what kind of people live near the forest? I pondered.
I heard the door open a few minutes later as she walked out wearing a short and crop turtleneck. She was dressed so
casually, and I couldn't help but admire how her milky complexion sparkled in the sun. "What the hell are you doing, Cole?
The girl is a threat "I consciously reminded myself. I shifted into my wolf shape and followed her, wondering where she was going.
I tracked her down to Mrs. Wonder's antique shop, where she purchased a book. I couldn't hear what they were saying since the shop had been enchanted to keep outsiders out.
That woman is terrifying. She strode out beaming, clutching a book to her chest as if she had just discovered the answer to all her problems. Is she attempting to seduce someone?
Why does she seem to be smiling so much? I was irritated. I followed her home and overheard she and her mother arguing.
She seemed to be going through a lot right now. I was intrigued about the book she bought, so I decided to climb through her window after she went to her room and fell asleep. My wolf glided through the window and startled her awake, and I fell to the ground. I couldn't climb up the window because it was slippery. I dashed back into the woods when she awoke.
She should bring the book to school tomorrow, hopefully. I thought.
BECCA'S POV
I was startled awake by a squeaky sound coming from my window. It was late in the evening when I checked the time. I
looked around for the book I had purchased. It was on the bed next to me. I opened the book after tracing the title with my hand. The first thing I noticed was a disclaimer that stated that this book could only be used on pure humans.
Cole is human and does not appear to be supernatural.
That was something I was certain of.
I looked through the table of contents and saw several spells such as how to brew a love potion, lock a door, erase memories, make a man fall in love, and many others.
I looked over the spell to make a man fall in love. All I had to do was keep my gaze fixed on him while doing a spell without interference.
This necessitates his presence! I was frustrated.
Everything appears to be going wrong today.
I closed the book and tucked it beneath my bed before heading downstairs.
I noticed my mother in the kitchen preparing dinner and went to the pantry to get some cereal.
"Don't waste my food since I'm already cooking dinner."
“I'll microwave it tomorrow," I told her as I shoveled a spoonful of cereal into my mouth.
She approached me, carrying the remaining bowl and emptying it into the sink.
"Let's talk about earlier," my mother said as she sat across from me on the chair.
I was irritated that she threw out my cereal, but I said nothing. To be honest, I didn't feel like eating it; I was simply angry at her.
"Your father's departure was the result of a mutual arrangement between two adults; we want the best for you and wouldn't want you to grow up in a family where we couldn't accommodate one another.”
"OK, mum, can we eat now?"
I exhaled deeply. I asked. I'm not going to fall for her ruses any longer. I know she seemed real, but she does it all the time, so I'll just go along with it because I'm fine.
Before standing up to serve the dinner, she let out a sigh and smiled at me. After we finished eating, we watched a N*****x show, and I retired to my room.
I'm still not at ease in this house, so I shut the window, pulled the curtain closed, and turned on the light. I slid my penknife closer to me and sat on my bed, surfing the internet.
I received a message from the school group showing a video of a guy named Jack announcing a party tomorrow night.
I sent it to the girls right away, and Pearl was the first to respond with a dancing GIF.
She typed, "Perfect moment to give Cole a drink."
Will you invite me? I couldn't just walk into their party without knowing how they feel.
Of course, after all, you're one of us now babe. Sam responded.
What about dress codes? I inquired of them.
Anything that's revealing, Pearl followed up by sending a sticker of a naked girl.
That's not me, I concluded. I have the perfect dress in my mind, and because I am a Queen Bee, I have the nicest dresses and I was adept at dressing up, dressing won't be an issue.
I'll have to master the spell before tomorrow night because Pearl stated Cole was coming.
I scribbled it down and started to cram it before tomorrow night. It would have been much easier if I hadn't had to keep in touch with him the entire time and also get the pronunciation right.
I groaned and returned to my bed.
I was fast asleep in no time.
SKYE'S POVThe hunger changes in the Margin.Back at Crestfall, it's been a constant low frequency — background noise, manageable, the kind of urgeI can push down and keep down if I stay focused. Here it's different. The Margin has its own pressure, and it presses on everything, and what it presses hardest on is whatever's already trying to break out of its box.I kept walking and kept my hands loose at my sides and didn't look too long at the pulse in Becca's throat. She's moving fast, the way she's been since the moment we entered the treeline, like urgency is the only thing holding her together and she knows it and has decided that's fine. I match her pace without difficulty, which is still strange to me. A week ago, keeping up with anything would have required actual effort. Now the effort is all internal, all pointed inward, all about not being what I'm capable of being."You've gone quiet," she said, not looking at me."I'm always quiet.""You're quieter than usual. Which is ala
BECCA'S POVThe forest had no stars. That was the first wrong thing I noticed. Not the trees with their bark the color of bruised plums, not the way the ground felt slightly too soft underfoot, like walking on the back of something sleeping. It was the sky — a low, woolen dark without a single point of light, pressing down on them like a held breath.I had been in bad places before. Last month she would have said the worst her blue walled room, trapped between my Mom’s boyfriend cheap cologne and her own forced solitude. Now I knew better. The worst was here."Sam!" My voice didn't carry right in this place. The word fell flat, absorbed by the dark between the trees like it had never existed at all. She tried again anyway
SKYE'S POVThe other me smiled like he knew a joke I hadn't figured out yet."So," Human Skye said, circling me the way a predator circles prey. Except he was the prey here. Smaller. Weaker. Breakable. "This is what I became. What you made me.""I didn't make anything." My voice came out wrong. Too rough. The fangs I couldn't retract anymore gave every word a slight lisp. "Becca's mother—""Did what you wanted." He stopped circling. Stood directly in front of me, close enough I could smell him. Blood. Warmth. Life. "Don't pretend you didn't want the power. The speed. The strength to protect her."
BECCA'S POV"What does it mean?" The words came out strangled. "The mark. The baby. My mother—what does it mean?"The Librarian was already turning away, walking back toward her desk like we'd just finished discussing the weather."Wait!" I scrambled to my feet, legs shaking. "You can't just—you have to tell me what I saw. You have to explain—""I don't have to do anything." The Librarian picked up her quill, dipped it in ink that looked too red. "I showed you what happened. What you do with that information is your concern, not mine.""That's not—you said this knowledge would help me close the doors. Save my town. But all you've shown me
BECCA'S POVThe world reformed with a lurch that made my stomach heave.I was back in Augustine's body, but everything was different now. Heavier. The weight pressing down on me wasn't just her consciousness—it was physical. A swollen belly that pulled at my—her—back, made breathing difficult, turned every movement into a great labour..Pregnant. She was pregnant. No, I thought desperately. Not again. I can't do this again—

BECCA'S POVThe Librarian snapped her fingers. The world didn't fade or blur or dissolve. It simply stopped existing. One moment I was standing in the warm, golden glow of the Library of Lost Things, surrounded by my friends. The next, they were gone—vanished like they'd never been there at all."Wa
BECCA'S POVWe stood at the edge of the monolithic structure, staring at the reality-defying landscape before us, none of us daring to speak. The wind whispered through the golden grass in a language I didn't understand, and the mint-green trees swayed without leaves to rustle. Everything about this
