"Die! Die...... die, "As he got closer to me, I chanted in my head. He's my mother's third husband, and he's always bugging me. I was sick of it, but if I told Mum what he'd done, she'd never believe me.
My name is Becca, and I'm sixteen years old. When my father departed, I grew up quickly because my mother would not stop partying, allowing her next partner to mistreat me.
This was not how I wanted to live my life. But there was nothing I could do about it. As he approached me, I secretly wished for him to perish. When he was two feet from me, he suddenly dropped with a thud. My mother dashed down the stairs to the sitting room where her husband and I were when she heard the loud noise. "What have you done, Becca?" she yelled as she hurried down the stairs.
"Nothing, mum," I replied, shaking with panic. I was relieved that he was unable to touch me, but I was concerned about what had occurred. My mother approached him, felt his pulse, and declared his death. I became stiff. Have I just murdered someone? I sincerely hope not. She then got into a trance by placing her hands on his chest.
I was completely perplexed; I had no idea what was going on. My mother returned to reality a few seconds later and stated,
"We are relocating; please pack your belongings.
"What the hell?!
"Let's get this packing started. In the car, I'll explain everything, "she commanded.
I had no idea that my entire life was getting altered.
I crammed as much as I could into my suitcase, making sure I didn't forget anything crucial. I took a peek around my purple room. I had no intention of missing it.
I'm used to moving and saying goodbye to pals, so I had no qualms about leaving this house. I walked down to the living room after packing but couldn't find his body. "Mom?" When I got to the kitchen, I noticed flickering lights and my mother's bikini body turned in a corner, chanting what sounded like a spell. Everything became totally motionless and silent in an instant. "What was it?" I inquired.
"Don't be concerned; let's get started." My mother insisted.
We loaded our belongings into the car, and I said my goodbyes to the house where I had resided, eager to move on with my life. We're in the car minutes later, driving towards the town's outskirts. My mother took a big breath and began telling me about my family's history. "We're witches, Rebecca." She stopped, waiting for my response. I remained motionless. I couldn't believe what she was saying and glanced at her with a puzzled expression. "Are you kidding me, mother?"
"No, darling, I'm not joking, and what just happened simply proved it. Becca, you hoped he was dead! He then died."
"How did you know I wished him dead?" I asked. shocked, my eyes wide open as if they may pop out at any moment.
"I was able to determine the cause of death when I touched his chest," she replied.
My thoughts raced through every possibility that I had just killed a man. "Does that mean I can do anything if I think about it long enough?”
"No Becca, I was kicking myself for not informing you sooner. Our family descended from a long history of witches and magicians. Your father was an enchanter. You are now a full witch.
You have a great deal of power.
Although enormous power comes with great responsibility, it may take a long time for you to fully comprehend and control your power.
I just stared at my mother, speechless! She kept everything hidden from me. I could have started learning them at an early age and be a master by now! "When we relocate to the new site, I promise to teach you." "We're headed to Crest Fall Town,"she said quietly, and my eyes shot out once again.
"Crest Fall Town? Mom!" “I can't. The history of that town is terrifying! Have you heard about the old lady who was hanged?
The residents of the town claim she is still alive and that her spirit haunts the streets.” I exclaimed, then became lost in my thoughts.
Crest Fall is a place rich with deadly histories and natural wonders. I once overheard that a high school student perpetrated a slaughter in a church before killing himself.
How would a sixteen-year-old girl who simply wants to have fun deal with all of this?
"Gosh, Becca, down to earth," my mother called out, pulling me back to reality. "I said we're 50 kilometers from Crest Falls," she muttered as I stretched my hands out the window, feeling the chill in the air as our vehicle rushed through the woods.
It was a lovely sight, and I couldn't help but yearn for better times.
We were greeted by a poster of Crest's fall high school and the town's main hall a few minutes later. It was plainly emblazoned in cursive script, "Welcome to Crest Fall." As we passed through the posters and into town, my mother heaved a sigh of relief. I looked at her questioningly but neither of us said anything and I continued looking through the mirror, captivated by the beautiful surroundings of a small town. Most trees were high and I could see through the floor which was filled with dry brown leaves.
We got to the main town which has a statue of two women curled up against each other with water dripping from their mouths. I stared at the statue, trying to find a meaning for it, but instead, I was interrupted by my mum. "Those are the two founders of Crest Fall, history has it that one was a witch and the other one was the moongoddess."
"Moon goddess?"
"Yes, moon goddess, as do all the Gods of all wolves."
"Oh, now there are werewolves?" I asked my mum.
"Of course, baby." She looked at me with disbelief in her eyes.
"And erm... Becca?"
As if expecting her to drop another bombshell, I asked, "yes?"
"Crest Fall Town is the town of our ancestors.”
Oh no..." I facepalmed myself as our car finally stopped in front of a house.
Skye’s POVThe world came to me in blurred shapes, slowly, as if a camera was gradually being pulled into focus. Sounds filtered into my ears, indistinct and spaced out– ringing in my ears at intervals. I strained his ear by tilting my head to the side and closing my eyes.I heard nothing except for what sounded like a drop of water touching a large pool of water.I looked around and saw that I was surrounded by tall trees towering monumentally above me.I realised that he was muddy and moist — my feet sogged in mud and dead vegetation.Becca! I yelled.Sam! Cole!I moved slowly through the damp grassland, feet sticking in the mud with each step. Then suddenly I stopped, my progression halted by realization. There are no animal sounds, this is a forest, there should be animal sounds .It’s all quiet except for that annoying trickle‘Where am I?” I muttered.“Becca!”I stood still, trying to get a sense of my surroundings. Trying to figure out where to go. The trees all looked th
BECCA'S POVThe Librarian snapped her fingers. The world didn't fade or blur or dissolve. It simply stopped existing. One moment I was standing in the warm, golden glow of the Library of Lost Things, surrounded by my friends. The next, they were gone—vanished like they'd never been there at all."Wait—" I spun around, searching frantically. "Where are my friends? What did you do with them?"The Librarian stood with her back to me, those mismatched eyes—one gold, one silver—studying something I couldn't see with intense focus. "Somewhere they can't interfere," she said, her voice carrying that musical-thunder quality that made my bones vibrate. "This is something you must do alone.""Bring them back!" I demanded, my voice cracking with fear and fury. "Bring them back right now!"She didn't even turn around.Panic clawed up my throat. Sam, still weak from blood loss. Skye, drowning in guilt and hunger. Cole, unconsci
BECCA'S POVWe stood at the edge of the monolithic structure, staring at the reality-defying landscape before us, none of us daring to speak. The wind whispered through the golden grass in a language I didn't understand, and the mint-green trees swayed without leaves to rustle. Everything about this place felt wrong—beautiful, yes, but wrong in a way that made my witch instincts snatch at my guts."We need to move," Cole said finally, his voice rough. He'd shifted back to human form and was using torn pieces of his shredded clothes to maintain some semblance of modesty. "Standing here leaves us exposed. Visible.""Visible to what?" Sam asked, wrapping her arms around herself. Despite the mild temperature, she was shivering. "What could possibly live in a place like this?""Nothing good," I muttered, scanning the horizon. The curved sky made everything feel claustrophobic despite the open space—like we were trapped inside a snow globe. "This isn't Earth
Becca’s POV‘They won’t stop coming, ' Skye yelled while plunging fist into the throat of a creature that looked like a rabbit-toad hybrid.‘We’ll take them, we can take them,” Cole rasped back with a wolfish snarl.“Bad idea wolf boy” Skye retorted, fizzing through the arena with the speed of a man bullet.”They won’t die. If we continue like this, we’ll be the ones to die here”I looked around to see all kinds of abominations coming at us from all sides relentlessly–jaws wide open, claws locked and loaded. Desperate to protect us from what looked like imminent death, I closed my eyes and imagined us being safe and warm and protected. As if responding to my thoughts and desires,a warm energy swirled from the pit of my stomach–moving like a spirally swirly pool. It reached for the crown of my head before exploding outwards from me,creating a chilly windy blast that cascaded into a warm pulsing energy.I opened my eye
