“Damn it!” Emery cursed under her breath as she felt a stinging pain on the side of her arm after barely escaping from getting shot by an arrow.
With her sprained ankle plus the heavy weight of the prince, Emery doubted that she would be able to run any longer. Thus, they hid behind another tree and upon making sure that Prince Cornelius was safe from being targeted, she grabbed several dead plants around and covered him with it.
“I’d kill you if I get bitten by a snake,” he hissed at her.
“You will die first before you could kill me, spoiled brat,” she sneered back. “Don’t make a single move or else… You’re done.”
Without saying anything
Emery scoffed at the question of the prince.“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Your Highness,” she said. “I only saved you to avoid being accused of siding with the rebels.”“If you think that my life and testimony would save you from such trouble, then you are wrong,” he responded. “Scheming men in the court have their ways in making up stories.”After that brief conversation, the two went quiet and continued to find their way out of the forest. The sun rose in the east, made its way across the sky, and before they knew it, it was getting dark once more and yet, they were still stuck in there with no food and little water. Emery was getting worried at the current state of the prince since his fever was not going down at all.
Her vision blurred due to the tears that were flooding her eyes and all she could hear was mixed voices calling out to her and the prince. She could not explain how happy she was to finally feel that safety, especially when Castor’s warm hand held hers.“S-Sir Castor…” she muttered almost breathlessly as she turned behind her. “Please, His Highness needs immediate medical attention. He… He had been having a fever and… And h-his wounds…”“We got it from here, Lady Emery,” the knight cut her off with a calm voice, tightening his grip on her still cold and shaky hand.Evander and the other soldiers with them managed to take the prince off of the horse before Emery dismounted with the knight lending her
After their short stay at the inn, the group continued to travel back to the capital which took almost a half-day. Upon their arrival after sunset at the gates of Elescaster City, the emperor’s messenger went on ahead in order to inform the palace of Prince Cornelius’ safe return. At that same time, the last day of the diplomatic meeting between the two parties. It took almost a month for things to be settled, especially that King Lawson did not want to make half-baked decisions. As they all walked out of the Levans Court and were headed to the Euthoria mansion for a joint dinner, the messenger met them at the court’s entrance. With a small bow, he reported, “Your Imperial Highness, Sir Castor had arrived in the city together with Prince Cornelius and Lady Emery.”
Lady Emily received nothing but silence as a response from the king. Watching him staring at the flowers with longing in his eyes, she simply heaved a sigh as she stood right next to him. Even though he would not say it out loud, it was already obvious that King Lawson was indeed jealous.“Everyone in the palace said that she lost her memories but it does not look like she did,” Lady Emily commented. “She is probably acting that way because she wanted to get back at you.”The king shook his head.“She is not that type of person. If she dislikes me, she would say it right in front of me without hesitation.”King Lawson did not say those words to negate the assumption of the q
The first thing Emery did upon approaching the emperor was to hold his hand that was clenched into a fist, making his veins become more visible. And not to mention, his sharp jawline was also more prominent when he gritted his teeth.“Your Imperial Highness, let me hold your hand,” she said, meeting his piercing yet pained gaze. “Please.”However, Emperor Claus simply ignored her and headed to the dining hall ahead of everyone. That only meant that Emery had to woo him later on before his jealousy would go out of hand. Though she was unsure of how to do that since the king, her ex-husband, was already involved. Knowing his temperament, it would be harder for her to get a hold of him. Watching him walk away, she heard a small chuckle from behind.&ldqu
When Castor was dismissed, the emperor was about to leave the library as well, however, he heard the door opening and shutting once more. He thought that Castor probably had forgotten something, but then, Emery came into view. He immediately sat back down, grabbed a book out of instinct, and pretended he was reading.“Your Imperial Highness.” She curtsied before approaching him. “May I have a bit of your time?”Emperor Claus did not reply since he was more than sure she would tell him nothing but excuses of how the king ended up carrying her as if they just got married. He did not want to admit it, however, he was once again starting to have doubts. A lingering feeling of being cheated on once again surrounded him and knowing that Emery was a woman who hides a lot of things from him, there was a possibility th
“No.”That was Emery’s immediate reply as she brushed his hand away with a firm resolve.“I am no longer returning to that place. Even if you beg me to… Even if you kneel on both knees right in front of me and cry blood, I would never set foot in that place ever again.”She turned away from him, walking away and telling herself not to listen to whatever he had to say. She did not want to be swayed or else, she might make a mistake that she would come to regret until her death. King Lawson, on the other hand, stood and still faced her.“For what? To kill the person who ambushed the headquarters of your organization? Emery, you are in their territory and that woman you are af
After that night, Emery acted as if it never happened and she felt a bit relieved since the king no longer tried to bother her. Either way, since she needed an alternative course of action in order to be in the competition once more now that the first stage was coming to a close. Hence, she went to see the prime minister. “We are still deciding whether or not you will be automatically advanced to the second stage. There will be a meeting about that matter this afternoon so wait for a while. As of the moment, you should help the emperor,” the prime minister said before handing her a pile of documents that needed to be addressed. “What are these?” Emery asked. “Reports and appeals. Since you will all be leaving for a short trip, I might as well drown the emperor with work first. His audacity to even think of taking a break amidst the busy season just amazes me.” “A trip?” The prime minister waved his hand, not wanting to answer her question and dismissing her already since he still
