Elira’s POV

The words carved into my table stayed in my mind long after I had finished staring at them. Whoever had taken the parchment knew exactly what I had been doing, which meant I couldn't afford to become careless now.

I wiped the marks from the table as best I could, hid the fact that I had discovered them, and decided that if someone wanted me frightened enough to stop looking, I would simply have to become much better at hiding what I was doing.

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 8

Elira’s POVThe words carved into my table stayed in my mind long after I had finished staring at them. The following morning, I returned to my duties as though nothing had happened. I carried baskets between the kitchens and servants' quarters, cleaned the eastern corridor and helped prepare the morning meal while quietly observing everyone around me.I kept thinking about the names on the parchment, especially the warrior I had watched the previous day, but I reminded myself that suspicion without proof could get me killed just as easily as trust could.I was carrying a tray of empty dishes across the servants' hall when one of the

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 7

Elira’s POVI barely slept after discovering the parchment, and when morning finally came, I was still lying awake beneath my thin blanket, staring at the ceiling while the same name kept circling through my mind. I had spent most of the night trying to convince myself that there had to be another explanation, that perhaps the warrior's name had appeared on Marcus's list for a reason that had nothing to do with betrayal. I couldn't simply accuse someone because I had found his name among suspicious markings, especially when I didn't understand what every name on the parchment represented. Before leaving my room, I carefully folded the parchment and hid it beneath the loose wooden board under my bed, checking twice to make sure it was completely concealed. I knew better than to carry it around with me, and I certainly wasn't foolish enough to confront the warrior whose name had frightened me.If he truly was involved with Marcus, confronting him would immediately expose the fact that

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 6

Elira’s POV“Who's there?” a voice called from inside the passage as the hidden door creaked wider, and I pressed myself harder against the cold stone wall, clutching the basket against my chest while I waited to see who would emerge. My heart was pounding so loudly that I was certain whoever stood on the other side would hear it, but I forced myself to remain still as footsteps approached.Marcus appeared first, followed by the same warrior I had seen with him earlier. This time, however, they weren't empty-handed. The warrior was carrying a heavy wooden chest between both hands, his arms visibly straining beneath its weight while Marcus kept glancing down the corridor as though he expected someone to appear at any moment.“Move quickly,” Marcus instructed in a low voice as he stepped aside to let the warrior pass. “We don't have all night, and I don't want anyone finding us here.”I held my breath as they walked past me, their attention focused on the chest rather than the shadows

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 5

Elira’s POV“Hold it like this,” I whispered to myself as I stood at the edge of the dark courtyard, copying the way I had seen one of the guards grip his sword earlier that evening. “Keep your feet apart and don't lose your balance.” I tightened my fingers around the wooden stick I had found behind the training shed and took a slow breath before stepping forward. The courtyard was almost empty at this hour, with only a few torches burning along the stone walls and the distant sound of guards changing shifts near the main gate. I had waited several nights before finally deciding to try this, watching from the shadows whenever the soldiers trained. I didn't have a wolf, supernatural strength, or anything else that could make me dangerous, so if I wanted to survive, I needed to learn how to fight with what I had.I raised the stick and copied the first movement I had memorized, swinging it toward an imaginary opponent before stepping backward. My foot caught on a loose stone, and I fel

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 4

    – ELIRA –"Is she dead yet?""Still breathing, want me to smother her?""No, let the poison finish her."I kept my eyes shut tight, tried not to breathe too loud. The voices were right above me.I could hear the footsteps walking away and then the door banged shut.I waited for a while, counted slowly to one hundred, then opened my eyes.Stared around, nobody there, just me and the cold stone floor. The broken cup lay next to my head, the pieces of glass everywhere.I should be dead, the poison should have killed me, but here I was, still breathing and still alive. My throat hurts badly, like I swallowed fire, my stomach twisted badly and cramped, it was better, at least I wasn't dead. Why?I picked up a piece of the cup, it still smelled bitter, like death and something else I couldn't name.Someone tried to murder me and failed.I stuffed the glass piece in my dress pocket, maybe I could find out who did this. Then I looked at my hands and almost screamed, black marks covered my ski

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 3

    – ELIRA –"Get up, bitch!"Cold water hit my face, I gasped and opened my eyes. Standing before me were two huge guards standing over me, one held an empty bucket."Time to meet your new master, your new Alpha" the other one said. He grabbed my arm and yanked me to my feet.I was in chains, heavy iron around my wrists and ankles. My whole body hurts. Someone had changed my clothes, now, I wore rough gray rags that scratched my skin."Move!" The first guard shoved me forward. My legs shook, I could barely walk, but they dragged me anyway. We went through a dark stone hall. This place felt evil. They threw me into a big room, and I hit the floor hard. My knees cracked against stone."The trespasser, my lord," one guard said.I looked up and forgot how to breathe. He was huge, seven feet tall at least. He had a black hair, his skin so pale it was almost white. And his eyes... God, his eyes were silver and they glowed in the dark. That was no other than Alpha King Kael Draven. He walked a

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 2

    – ELIRA –The Council chamber felt like a tomb, with cold stone walls, cold faces staring at me. I sat in the corner trying to make myself invisible while Garrick stood at the front like he owned the world.Which he did. He was the Alpha and I was just his unwanted wife.My hands shook in my lap, I

  • Crowned By His Curse   Chapter 1

    – ELIRA –There was blood everywhere, on my hands, on the floor. It kept falling from the cuts where I had gripped the glass too hard.“Stupid bitch.”Garrick didn’t even turn to look at me when he said it. He just walked away like I meant nothing, like he always did. He never cared.I sat there on
