Celeste’s POV

That evening, I made sure Merida had a table set for my dinner date. Xavier arrived thirty minutes early in a black Ferrari. I thought he looked really handsome in his dinner suit, but I wasn’t in a rush to tell him that.

Myself, I was dressed in a short silver gown that stopped right before my knees. A few jewelry hung over my neck and wrist. It had been quite a while since I went out with anyone, and I wasn’t sure how I looked.

But when Xavier walked into the place, his eyes scanned me from head to toe. Then a soft whistle escaped his mouth. “You look ravishing, Miss Laurent.”

“Thank you.” I replied, feeling a little nervous. “You don’t look bad yourself.

Xavier nodded. “Shall we then?”

“Yes. Follow me.”

I led him into the main hall, where the evening events werealready underway. Soft music played in the background, asconversations filled the air without disrupting decorum.

Some of the guests turned their heads when Xavier and I walked past them. I couldn’t blame them, he had the sort of presence that attracted attention without any effort.

We arrived at our reserved spot, a nice table near the windows, away from the busiest section of the restaurant. From here, we could talk without pulling too much attention to ourselves.

Once we were seated, Xavier picked up the menu and looked at it. “Do you still hate mushrooms?” he asked without raising his head.

I blinked. “You remember that?”

“I remember once, you threatened to leave the dinning table because your mother put mushrooms in the sauce.” He said with a laugh.

I smiled. “That was a long time ago. I still hate mushrooms though. They are just… disgusting.”

“You were really unbearable.”

“I was fifteen. I hated half the world at that time, not just mushrooms.” I said, scanning the menu myself. “But you hated the other half too, if I remember correctly.”

Xavier laughed a little loudly that a couple seated nearly glanced in our direction. But for the first time in a while, I didn’t care who was watching.

We made our order, and as we waited for it to arrive, a waiter poured red wine into our glasses. It was a bottle I hadspecifically chosen for the evening. Our conversation thenstarted, as we tried to catch up on the last ten year of our lives.

The topic went from old memories to the lives we had both built apart from each other. He told me about his business… how he had built it from scratch. While I gave him a safe version of my own story, leaving out important things I wasn’t yet ready to share.

Still, talking with Xavier felt surprisingly easy. I didn’t have to pretend in his presence, or measure each word that came out of my mouth so not to give away too much.

Even the occasional silence between us was not uncomfortableat all. It was just as if we had kicked off from when we last saw each other.

With the conversation moving towards a certain direction, Xavier suddenly threw me a question I wasn’t expecting at all.

“So what about your Sebastian Rowe?”

My hands paused over my plate for a second. “What about him?” I then questioned back.

Xavier studied my face carefully. “Well last I checked, you were married to him. Or aren’t you still together?”

For a moment, I couldn’t find an answer to give. Not because I still cared about Sebastian, but because hearing his name nowreminded me of everything I had worked hard to leave behind.

“No,” I finally answered. “We divorced six years ago.”

Xavier’s expression immediately changed. “You’re divorced?”

“Yes.”

“Wow.” He said with a sigh. “What happened?”

I took a sip of my drink before setting the glass down. “He wanted someone else.”

It was the simplest way to explain the six years of pain I had gone through. Xavier didn’t respond immediately. His eyes just stayed on mine for a while, and I wondered if he was searching for the girl he had left behind.

Most people would look at a divorced woman with eyes of pity, or treat her like she carried an invisible mark of vulnerability on her face. But Xavier didn’t look at me that way.

Instead, he leaned back on his chair and said with a silly grin, “So, you finally got rid of my competition.”

I stared at him, not knowing what to say to that. I recalled that back in the day, we had both started to develop feelings for each other beyond mere friendship.

Then things quickly changed as I was married off into the Rowefamily. And Xavier? He left Starling city shortly after that. Nowseeing each other again, I couldn’t keep the emotions I had suppressed for ten years from stirring again.

I broke the silence with a laugh. He didn’t say anything else and just stared at me. I tried to hold myself together, but his flirty gaze made it even worse.

I finally shook my head. “You haven’t changed at all.”

His smile broadened. “And neither have you, Celeste.”

For a moment, the restaurant noise seemed to fade out around us. Then I sort to change the topic. “Tell me something,” I said quietly. “Did you ever think of coming back?”

Xavier leaned forward, wiping his lips with a napkin. “Everysingle day.”

My chest tightened with curiosity. “Then why didn’t you?”

He looked down at his hands. “Because, I thought I had to first become someone worthy of returning.”

“You know you never had to prove anything to us right?” I chimed. “To me.”

“Yes. I know that.”

Neither of us spoke for a moment. Then he reached across the table and touched my hand softly. “But I’m here now, Celeste.”

I looked at him, and something warm formed in my chest. I couldn’t decide on the emotions I was going through that moment, but whatever it was, I let myself feel it.

I even taken Xavier’s hand in mine, squeezing softly and silently telling him that it was nice to see him again.

We were still holding hands when someone unexpected walked into the restaurant. I didn’t look up immediately, too busy laughing with Xavier. Then I noticed the sudden change in the place.

I turned toward the entrance and my eyes met Merida, who wasstanding at the center of the hall, her eyes widened. The strange expression on her face made my smile disappear instantly.

Then she pointed with her eyes and I followed her gaze.Sebastian Rowe had just walked into Éclat, looking every inch the powerful businessman he was. His gaze then moved quicklyacross the room, and landed on me.

For a moment, he didn’t move from where he stood. Then his eyes shifted to Xavier, who was still holding my hands from across our table. He looked at our joined hands, then back at my face. That moment, Sebastian’s face hardened immediately.

Celeste’s POV I had a bad feeling about Camille. Ever since she showed up at Éclat and started asking questions about Amanda, I hadn’t been able to relax.I knew that woman well enough to understand that her curiosity was never an innocent one. She always had a reason for doing things, even when she pretended otherwise. And I didn’t like the questions she had asked me. How old was Amanda? Did her father know about her? Why would Camille suddenly be interested in my daughter’s life?First it was Sebastian who found out about her, now his jealous girlfriend? Who else? I just couldn’t shake the feeling that therewas something she was looking for. Something she had no right to know.“You’ve been thinking for the past twenty minutes, and you haven’t turned a single page.” Merida crossed her arms. “Is this about Sebastian or Xavier?”“Neither.”She raised an eyebrow. “Then what is it, Celeste?”I stared at her. Then rubbed my forehead. “Sebastian’s girlfriend, Camille. She came here two da

  • Cry Me a River, Mr Billionaire!    Chapter 14

Camille’s POV I could feel that something was wrong with Sebastian. I had known him for years, and I could tell when something was bothering him. Usually, he hid his feelings behind his work, his expensive suits, and that cold expression that made people think nothing could touch him.But lately, he had become distracted. He spent hours staring at his phone, sometimes quickly putting the device away whenever I approached. He had also started leaving the office earlier than usual, and whenever I asked where he was going, he gave me vague answers. At first, I thought it was work. It had to be. Then I heard Celeste Laurent’s name mentioned during a phone conversation. That was when I knew I had a problem.“Are you going to keep pretending nothing is happening?” I asked him while we were having dinner.Sebastian looked up from his meal. “What are you talking about?”“Celeste.”His expression changed for only a second, but I caught it.“What about her?” he asked nonchalantly.I folded my

Sebastian’s POV I couldn’t believe it that I actually had a daughter. For three daysstraight, that was the only things I could think of. I had a daughter who was six years old, and I had missed every single day of her life.I knew nothing about her. And the worst part was that Celeste had kept it from me all along. I couldn’t blame her for being angry though. I had given her every reason to keep her distancefrom me.But knowing that didn’t make it easier to accept that another man might have been the one helping Amanda blow out her birthday candles or teaching her how to ride a bicycle. The thought made my chest ache.On the fourth day since discovering the shocking news, I returned to Éclat. I didn’t go there to simply talk to Celeste. I was going to demand answers. And I was prepared to do whatever it took to make her give me the answers I needed. Her assistant met me at the reception desk. “You again?” the lady said to me.“It’s Meridith right?”“Merida.” She corrected instantly.

  • Cry Me a River, Mr Billionaire!    Chapter 12

Sebastian’s POV I had spent the last three days thinking about how to destroy Xavier Cross after the night at Eclat. It was not one of my proudest moments, but I couldn’t help it.Every time I closed my eyes, I remembered him punching me my jaw. I wanted badly to punch him back. No. I wanted to do much worse than that.Unfortunately, I had more pressing problems at home.“Are you even listening to me?”I looked up from my phone to find Camille standing in front of my desk with her arms crossed.“What?”Her eyes narrowed. “I have been talking to you for the past ten minutes, Sebastian.”“And I have been trying to work, Camille.”“Since when did work become more important than me? Huh?”I stared at her. Was she being serious right now? Since she had started making my life miserable, I had spent more time avoiding her than doing anything else.Ever since the night at Éclat, she had complained about my late nights, my unanswered calls, and the fact that I no longer gave her the attention

  • Cry Me a River, Mr Billionaire!    Chapter 11

Celeste’s POVI should have known that Xavier’s return back into my life would complicate things. It had been days since the incident at Éclat, where he and Sebastian had nearly torn each other apart in the parking lot.I had hoped the whole thing would end there, but I was starting to realize that nothing involving the two men was ever that simple. Sebastian had called me twice since that night. I ignored both calls.Xavier, on the other hand, had called every evening to check on me. Sometimes, we talked for hours. Other times, he would show up at Éclat with flowers, claiming he was only there because he had nothing better to do.I knew he was lying. And the worst part was that I enjoyed having him around. I even enjoyed it more than I was willing to admit. This afternoon, I was reviewing some documents when Merida walked in without knocking.“Your friend is here.”I barely looked up from my laptop. “Which friend?”“The tall, handsome one who keeps showing up with flowers and distrac

  • Cry Me a River, Mr Billionaire!    Chapter 10

Sebastian’s POVWhen I asked Alice to make a dinner reservation for me at Éclat, I had not imagined that something would ruin my evening. But now I sat alone at my table, my eyes permanently fixed on my ex wife and her date.I had heard about Xavier Cross. Or rather, Cross industries. I had just had the unpleasant opportunity of meeting the man behind the work. Xavier had built quite an impressive reputation in the business world. But tonight he was playing in my territory.I took a sip of my tequila, trying hard to calm myself. My phone suddenly vibrated on the table. I glanced at the screen. Camille. I sighed. She had chosen the worst moment to call me.Without thinking twice, I declined the call and put my phone down. But a few seconds later, it started to ring again. I looked at the screen with irritation. Decline again.I had no patience for her drama tonight. The last thing I wanted was to listen to her complain about something that could easily wait until I returned. My attenti
