Chapter 1: The Birthday Celebration

“Velle, come quick! Your dress for your birthday has arrived.” I heard my mom shout downstairs.

“Coming, Mom!” Yes, my dress has arrived. Despite my drowse, I ran down to see it. My mouth turned O when I saw mom was holding the elegant purple dress.

“Oh my god!” I ran to her and touch the dress, the soft fabric against my palm was amazing. “This is so beautiful, mom.” It was simple and made of silk.

“Yeah, I’m sure you Kylo would like it.” I blushed when mom said that and she even winked at me.

“Mommm, stop,” while I was trying to suppress my smile. “I’ll be going out, I will be quick I promise,” I said and ran back to my room, speaking of Kylo. He wanted to see me before my birthday night.

I took a bath and quickly changed my clothes. I wore a white dress and brought a basket with me. I didn’t mind telling my mom again and ran out of the house.

“Velle,” Hailee greeted me so I smiled at her.

“Hail.”

“Are you ready to be a Luna?” She asked with a wide smile. Every time they talk about that, it got me excited. It was a great responsibility, but still, I knew I can do that.

“Well, we are not sure about that.” Even though I do hope so.

“I’m sure you are.” She replied which gave me confidence.

I went to our meeting place and I did saw him near the lake. He was throwing pebbles in the water when he suddenly turned to me.

I saw him smell my scent and smile when he saw me. Yet, something in his eyes that he failed to mask.

“What’s the problem?” I said and sat next to him.

“I’m afraid,” he confesses. He had turned to his right age last month but didn’t find his mate and everyone thought it would be me.

“Afraid of what?”

“For tomorrow, what if you find your mate tomorrow and it isn’t me.” He looked into my eyes. I moved closer and touched his face. He closed his eyes and feel the warmth of my palm.

“What if it’s YOU?” He opened his eyes again and a weak smile drew on his lips.

“I hope so.” He said, I was about to remove my hand on his face but he held it to stay.

“You know what, you think too much. You worry too much, calm down and loosen up.” I said to cheer him up.

“I can’t, what if it’s not you? I want you to be my Luna. I want you to promise me, promise to choose me over your mate if it would not be me.” He held both of my hands and desperately looked into my eyes.

I smiled and move closer. I kissed him on his cheek. “I will be your Luna, I will be your mate. Do not worry too much, the moon goddess can hear our hearts. She knew that I belong to you.” He nodded and finally smiled.

“I knew you’d be a perfect Luna, you are the Luna that the Moonstone Pack needs.” He said and pulled me into a hug. In my mind, I was scared too, what if I fail the whole pack, everyone was expecting me to be the next Luna. Even Kylo’s parents treat me like a family.

“Don’t flatter m too much,” I said and I heard him chuckle. “Aren’t we going to pick strawberries for my birthday?”

“Okay, let’s go,” he let me go and help me stand up. He shifted and I saw his wolf form again. He was huge and dominant over the other male in the pack. I climbed on his back and he started running.

I could feel his cautiousness while I was riding him. He didn’t run too fast to ensure my safety. Kylo had been so gentle when it comes to me, we were childhood friends and I could feel that we were more than friends.

As we arrived at the strawberry field I went down and he shifted back. “We better hurry up. Mom told me to return you soon as possible.” He said which I immediately agreed.

Tonight, my wolf in me would wake up, I would find my mate. And I wish it was him. Nothing could suppress my excitement despite the fear of failing them. We started picking strawberries silently.

“Kylo!” I heard someone call him. We turned to the lady approaching, it was Laia.

“What are you doing here? You knew you are not allowed to be in here.” He said the Alpha prohibits a trespasser in the territory. She was a half-witch and a half-werewolf that Kylo saved days ago while they were out hunting.

“I missed you so I paid you a visit, who is she?” She pointed at me with her long black nails, she was dressed in a purple dress.

“My mate,” he said. I saw how her eyes turned into surprise and then to despise real quick.

“That’s not true.” She instantly said, that was when I realized why did she react that way.

“Hi, I’m Lavelle.” I offered my hand to her for a handshake, she was about to accept it when Kylo held my hand and pulled me behind his back.

“Please leave now, Laia. Witches are not allowed in here.” Kylo was still calm and diplomatic. Witches were our enemy yet he still spoke to her with respectfully calm.

“I am still a werewolf as you are even if I am a half-blood and she's not your mate, I should be!” She pointed herself and even step closer to us. She was glaring at me while her eyes would soften as she look at him.

“Leave now.” His soft voice has gone, it was low and authoritative.

“Fine.” She looked at me and I saw how her fist balled as her lips turn into a grim line. She stormed away from the strawberry field. While we were left with confused faces.

“Why would she say that?” I asked and I saw him shake his head. Did they have something special--

“I don’t know. You know I found her trespassing and dad knew about her since they found her scent but I let her escape since she was young and naive. I understand she was being curious. Then suddenly she thinks I like her.” He explained, and he started picking strawberries again. I knew he wasn’t lying.

A smile tug on my lips as he cleared my suspicion. He never lied or hide something from me as I did to him. He never gave me any reason to get jealous of someone since then.

“I hope she realized that it’s forbidden. She’s a witch and you’re a werewolf.”

“She has nothing to realize, I will never do that. I belong to you, remember?” My smile went wider as he said that. Then I felt someone staring at me. I looked around and I saw Laia behind the trees watching us.
