Chapter 2: Quinn

I ran as fast as I could from the school. Tears streamed from eyes blurring my vision. Before I knew it I was crossing territory lines into my uncle's territory, The Blood Moon Pack. He took over after my grandfather's pack after my mother killed him.

I hadn’t been over here since I was a little girl. But for whatever reason I always felt more at home when I was at my uncle Thomas’s pack-house. I called him my uncle because calling him my cousin was weird since he was so much older than I. We always had a great bond regardless of whatever family drama that happened in the past. My mom refused to explain what happened and why she killed my grandfather.

None of the pack warriors stopped me as I climbed up the porch steps.

“Welcome back Miss Quinn, it’s been a long time.” Sam, one of the guards said with a smile. I saw his eyes glaze over so I knew he had mind-linked my uncle.

As I walked through the front door of the pack house I was greeted with a big smile from my uncle Thomas. He was taller than I remembered. He had to be at least 6” 6’. He had bright green eyes like myself and dirty blonde hair. I guess those traits ran in the family.

“Why hello stranger,” his voice was deep and calming. He walked up to me and braced me in a hug. It was at that moment I lost it. I crumbled in his arms.

He looked down at me with a concerned look “Quinn, what’s going on? Are you okay? Does your mum know you are here?” I shook my head, unable to respond through the sobs escaping me. He rubbed my back, “it’s okay, shhhhhh, it’s going to be okay.” He guided me to the living room and motioned to the couch for me to sit. He sat across from me in his armchair. His elbows on his knees as his hands rubbed together.

I wiped the tears on my cheeks. “I’m…I'm sorry. I just ran and ran and ended up here.”

“You are always welcome here kiddo, you know that. I’m so happy to see you, although I hate seeing you this way. What happened?”

I sniffled and nodded. “I don’t belong there. I’m a freak,” I explained. My head is going in my hands.

I could feel my mother trying to mindlink me but I pushed her out.

“Don’t say that. What happened?” He asked with a concerned look.

Before I could answer his phone rang. “I will be right back. I will have Melissa bring you some tea and tissues.” He said while pulling his cell out of his pocket and walked out of the room.

I pushed my shoes off and grabbed the faux fur throw blanket that was folded on top of the couch. Melissa came into the room in a matter of minutes.

She was a peculiar looking woman. She was short and pear shaped. Her curly strawberry blonde hair was up in a clip with some curls hanging in her face. She had huge lensed glasses that made her eyes look magnified. It was hard not to smile when she walked in. “Hi my sweet, Alpha sent me to you.” She placed the tray of tea on the coffee table. “I also brought some Of these,” pointing to some fresh chocolate chip cookies.”

“Thank you Melissa.” I said with a half smile grabbing a cookie. I sat for a while wondering where Thomas went. Melissa had gone back to the kitchen working on some recipes. I got up from the couch and began walking to the bathroom when I heard an angry voice coming from Thomas’s office.

“Yes she’s here and she is safe,” I peered in through the ajar door and saw Thomas pacing. Clearly not happy.

“No, I have no idea what happened. You’re her mother and the fucking Alpha shouldn’t you know what’s going on?!”

I could hear muffled screams on the other end of the phone which obviously was my mother.

“Well I didn’t know that happened. Maybe if you actually told her the truth about her family and herself she wouldn’t be calling herself names and would actually understand how unique she is!” He screamed at my mother.

I had no idea what he was talking about. I quietly backed up from the door. Accidentally running into Melissa. “Oh my dear!” She gasped with her hand on her chest and the other on my arm. “What are you doing over here?”

“Bathroom?” I asked. Although I knew she saw me eavesdropping.

She pointed to the door across the hall. I nodded and started walking to the bathroom.

As I approached the door, Thomas walked out of his office breathing hard. Rubbing his hand down his face. He looked up and jumped when he saw me. “Quinn, you good?”

I nodded and pointed to the bathroom.

“Right, I’ll meet you back in the living room. Your mom called. She will be here in an hour.” He said, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Of course she is,” I said, annoyed while walking into the bathroom.

When I walked out of the bathroom and headed back to the living room, I was greeted with a warm smile from Thomas. He stood near his mini bar pouring himself some whiskey.

I raised an eyebrow at him. “I get one of those right?” I asked, trying not to giggle; fully knowing the answer.

“Your mother already wants blood. Best we don’t dig ourselves a bigger hole Huh?” he said, topping off the glass.

“So are you going to tell me why you were so upset that you ran 15 miles from school to here?

I looked at my hands. Not really knowing where to start and shrugged.

“I can’t help if you don’t tell me kiddo. You came here for a reason. What's up?” He asked, sitting on the other side of the couch.

“I don't really know where to start.” I mumbled.

“Just start wherever you feel like was the breaking point,” he responded.

I explained to him the vision I saw and how I was somehow able to shatter all the glass in the room and also explained the other weird situations I found myself in.

He just nodded and listened intently. I could tell he wanted to say something but instead just continued to sip on his whiskey. He was about to say something when I heard my mom's car pull into the driveway. I huffed, annoyed, not wanting to deal with the storm that was about to blow in.

I saw Sam, Thomas’s Beta, open the door as my mom stormed through the door. Her anger could be felt all the way to the living room. I looked down at my knees averting her dagger eyes.

My father followed behind her with worry written all over his face.

She stood right in front of the sofa “There you are! Care to share with the class why the fuck you are here and why you left school and why you kept pushing me away from the mindlink?!” She screamed. My father put his hand on her shoulder and I could tell that it relaxed her a little from the corner of my eye.

I couldn't meet her eyes. I felt ashamed, embarrassed, and just wanted her to be welcoming like Thomas. After a few moments of not answering me I felt her alpha aura come off of her slamming into me. “You best be answering some of these questions Quinn! What the hell?! Do you realize how scared we were?!”

I clenched my jaw, trying not to submit to the command from her aura. I looked up at her with tears filling my eyes.

“Anna, quit it, you are hurting her!” Thomas yelled, hopping off the couch and kneeling near me.

Reluctantly my mother took away the command, my entire body relaxing. I tried to catch my breath.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, moving my eyes back to my knees.

Thomas stood up, “Anna, a word in my office please?”

“That's Alpha Anna Pierce, to you.” My mother spit back.

Thomas rolled his eyes, “we can play the who’s dick is bigger contest later, Alpha. My office please.”

She huffed and left the room while my father stayed behind and sat next to me. “Baby, what's going on?” he said in a soft tone, wrapping me in his arms. His scent is soothing just like Thomas.

“Dad, I can’t…. I can't go back to that school. Please don’t make me.” I cried looking up at him. His brows furrowed and he kissed me on the temple.

“Does this have anything to do with the property damage that happened at school today?” he asked. I nodded in return as more tears fell down my cheeks.

“I didn’t mean to dad, I swear. I can’t explain what happened. I don’t understand it myself…..they all think I am a freak and are afraid of me. I’m afraid of myself!” I explained.

He rubs my arm trying to comfort me.

“Well hopefully we can get some answers for you tonight honey.”
