Chapter 5

Celeb pulled over at the parking lot of a restaurant after an hour drive from home, he had taken his father’s car as he loves driving it.

He turned to Katherine who has been silent all through the drive. “We are here.” He told her and unfastened his seat belt and got down from the car.

Katherine got down from the car and walked towards Celeb who was waiting from her, he stared at her face for a while and she raised her brows curious to know why he was staring.

“You don’t talk much, are you always like this, or it’s because of what has happened to you lately?” He questioned her and she exhaled sharply and looked away from him.

“I am famished.” She didn’t respond to him and headed towards the restaurant door and he chuckled softly.

I guess she talks

She turned around and glanced at him. “Are you coming or not?” She called out. “I have no money to pay.” She said shamelessly and he grinned and rushed over to her.

“Well, consider me your wallet for today.” He winked at her and pushed the door open and she went in, then he followed.

They ordered Acadiana Scramble with Dungeness crab, shrimp, andouille, tomato confit, asparagus garlic confit, and Creole hollandaise.

They were eating in silence, but Katherine noticed Celeb staring at her, she glanced up at him. “You are staring again.” She said softly. “Do I have something on my face?” She touched the corner of her lips like she was wiping something off.

“You have a lot of question to ask about my family, why don’t you ask?” He leaned close to the table and looked closely at her face, there was no curiosity whatsoever and he couldn’t tell what she was thinking.

Katherine sipped some water and placed down the glass. “I think people only open up when they want to and preying in their business often makes them ignore you.” She raised her gaze to meet his eyes. “I think I will know only when I am told.”

Celeb scoffed and shook his head. “You are wrong Katherine, most times, it’s good to ask questions if you are curious, it is better to know than not to know, that would prepare your mind for certain things.” He informed her and at some shrimp.

“Haven’t you been in a situation where you regret not asking a question you were curious about?” He glanced up at her and she lowered her gaze.

He is right, if I had asked my parents what was bothering them, if I had put an interest to why they were sad, if I had cleared my doubt when they said they were okay, then I would have know that the company was suffering, I would have learnt that the company was going bankrupt and prepared my mind for this situation.

She drew a sharp breath and began eating without responding to his question and Celeb studied her expression to see that it was clouded with sadness again and now he felt he shouldn’t have brought that up.

“What did you enjoy doing?” He quickly tried to change the topic and she looked at him. “Like a hobby, what makes you happy whenever you do it?” He question and she placed down her fork and wiped her lips with the handkerchief.

“I loved travelling with my parents, it was my hobby.” She responded to the question in past tense and he realized it was another sensitive question he never should have asked.

She drew a sharp breath. “But now I don’t have any parent and I also have no money to travel, so I doubt I have any hobby that makes me happy.” She sipped some water and got to her feet. “I will be waiting for you in the car.” She got to her feet.

“What about your meal?” He quickly asked her glancing at the plate, but she had only taken a few bit of the meal.

“I am filled up.” She said and left the restaurant and Celeb grabbed the corner of his hair.

Shit, I never should have asked her that!

He scolded himself and slapped his lips before glancing at his meal and groaning softly, placing down his fork, he went to pay off the debt and rushed out of the restaurant to the car.

He paused when he saw Katherine sitting on the passenger side of the car with her eyes closed, he could tell she was thinking of her late parent, he exhaled sharply and made his way into the car.

“I am sorry, Katherine.” He told her immediately he got into the car and she opened her eyes and turned to see the sincerity in his eyes, but he saw her red eyes, she hasn’t shed any tears, but he knew she was suppressing them.

Katherine pressed her lips together, those words were words she would wish not to hear anymore, she had heard them enough from the past few days from people who said they knew her father, but no one but Jonas could take her in and Celeb has been good to her.

“Let’s go home.” She said fastening her seatbelt.

“Let me show you around.” He said to her, but she shook her head.

“I am tired and want to rest.” She appreciated the fact that he wanted to show her around, but nothing interested her, she was still in mourning and he had just reminded her of her parents.

Home could still be on fire, Katherine, I’m not sure that is a good place to return to right now.

“Aren’t you going to drive?” She asked pulling him out of his thought and Celeb blinked, he wanted to keep her away from home, but now he couldn’t, not when she is this serious to head back.

“I will.” He started the car and drove out of the parking lot, heading in the direction of the apartment.

After an hour drive of silence, Celeb pulled over at the apartment and Katherine stepped out of the car to head in.

“Katherine!” Celeb called out immediately stepping down from the car and she turned to look at him with raised brows. “It will be okay.” He thought he should assure her and she locked gaze with him.

His words were gently and warm at the same time, he reminded her of her childhood friend, Carlos, but Carlos was funnier and it has been years since she saw or heard from him.

She wanted to believe it would, so she flashed him a smile and turned around towards the entrance door, she knew she has to survive and to do that she needed to work, but she has to also plan for it.

She pushed the door open and stepped into the living room but halt when she heard voices, she quickly recognized the voices to be that of Jonas and his wife, and just then Celeb also came in behind her.

He drew an exasperating sigh. I know the house is still on fire.

He turned to Katherine who glanced at him. “You should get used to it, now go up to room and rest.” He told her and she nodded and turned to leave on to halt when she heard Celeb’s parent’s room door open and shut followed by heavy footstep approaching her.

She knew she didn’t have to greet, not this time when what was filled on Rita’s face was anger and coldness, she pressed her lips together as she watched Rita approach her and halt at her front, Jonas behind her,

“Rita, stop this!” He said out loud but it went to deaf ears and Katherine wondered if it was because of her again, it could be because of her, and if eyes were dagger, Rita’s eyes would have stabbed her to death.

“You have to prepare to get married next week, Katherine!” Rita said with clenched jaw and Katherine’s eyes dilated, Celeb gasped behind and Vivian who strolled down the stairs stopped, crossing her arms over her chest, she smirked.
