JACE BALDWIN'S POV

"Is it true you laid off people from patrol?"

"They needed more time to sleep and have game night, I don't have room for lazy people who would cost people their lives and property in the Pack," I replied to Nate without sparing him a glance.

"What do you mean?" Ian asked absentmindedly, his attention on the laptop on his lap that he was furiously tapping away on.

"Sleeping and playing cards on duty." I shrugged not caring that those men lost their jobs because their failure on duty could lead to me not being able to protect my people.

"That's terrible, but they deserved it. I play a lot but I know not to do that when on patrol. But how did you know that? You have a little birdie blowing you the whistle?" Nate piqued.

"I'm the Alpha for a reason," I smirked at him to which he scowled at me.

We continued talking about other things, even throwing jabs at each other until I started feeling a strange excitement from the Pack bond.
