Chapter 3

Author: Little Hedgehog
The couches in the private room were filled with people, all of them staring at me as though I were the night's entertainment. Right in the middle sat Abigail and Nolan.

That was when I realized I had been made a fool of. If I'd known, I would've stopped worrying about the organization's reputation and gone straight to bed.

Abigail looked at me with smug satisfaction. "Who are you trying to fool, Benjamin? You were really heartbroken after I dumped you, huh? The second I called, you came running."

Nolan slipped an arm around Abigail and chuckled. Then, he shot me a taunting look. "Don't get the wrong idea, Benjamin. I was the one who insisted she call you over.

"After seeing your social media post yesterday, people jumped to conclusions and started calling me the other man. I need you to clear that up."

I let out a bitter laugh, finding the whole thing ridiculous. I met Nolan's gaze and shot back, "Isn't that exactly what you are?

"Honestly, I'm curious. What kind of parents raised someone like you? Didn't they teach you any better than to wreck other people's relationships?"

Nolan's expression darkened instantly, and he glared at me.

"Who are you talking about?" he hissed through clenched teeth.

I said nothing, but Abigail was already on her feet, ready to defend him. "Benjamin, apologize to Nolan! You have no right to talk about him like that!"

"Was I wrong?" I asked, rolling my eyes. "Aren't you two just a cheating loser and a homewrecker who found each other?"

"If you don't want people talking, then learn to keep it in your pants instead of throwing yourselves at every member of the opposite sex you see."

Having said that, I headed for the door, intending to leave.

But before I could reach the door, Nolan stepped forward and grabbed my arm. "Stop right there! Who said you could leave? Apologize!"

I sneered. "Don't touch me. You're disgusting."

Nolan's expression turned thunderous instantly. Before I had time to react, he raised his hand and swung it at me.

At that exact moment, another hand shot out from behind me and caught his wrist.

"A whole group ganging up on one person, huh? Real classy."

Startled, I turned around. It was Savannah.

She shoved Nolan back so hard that he stumbled and would have fallen if Abigail hadn't caught him.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

Savannah smiled at me. "I saw you come in earlier. I wanted to say hi, but I didn't want to intrude. Then I walked past and heard you arguing. I was worried you might get hurt, so I waited outside."

Hearing that, I nodded and thanked her.

The moment Abigail noticed Savannah standing behind me, she frowned and demanded, "Who is this woman?

"Benjamin, we just broke up, and you couldn't wait to find another woman? Who's the one who can't keep it in their pants?"

She crossed her arms and glared at Savannah and me. "Maybe you've wanted to break up with me for a long time so you could be with her instead. When I ended things, I gave you exactly what you wanted, didn't I?"

I rolled my eyes again. "Just because you cheated, you assume everyone else cheats too? Sorry, but I was raised better than that. I have standards, and I don't do the kind of sleazy things you two do."

"You…"

Abigail was left speechless and could only glare at me with resentment. "Who knows whether you're telling the truth?"

Savannah frowned. Without missing a beat, she pulled a business card from her pocket and said, "I'm an attorney. What you're doing right now constitutes defamation. If you keep this up, I won't hesitate to pursue legal action."

I glanced at the title on her business card. Damn. She had really made something of herself. She was actually a partner at one of the country's top law firms.

Abigail, on the other hand, gritted her teeth but said nothing.

I looked at her, and for some reason, all I felt was disgust.

A moment later, I gave Savannah's hand a light tug. "Don't waste your time arguing with her. Let's go."

But the instant Abigail saw me holding Savannah's hand, she completely lost it. She stormed over and yanked me toward her.

"Benjamin, how pathetic can you get? Have you never seen a woman before? You'll go after any woman, won't you?"

The sudden yank nearly sent me sprawling. Fortunately, Savannah caught hold of my hand and steadied me.

Irritated, I scowled at Abigail. "Are you out of your mind? Who I hold hands with has absolutely nothing to do with you!"

Beside her, Nolan shot me a glare, jealousy flashing in his eyes.

"Abby, just let them go. There's no point letting them spoil our evening," he said as he tugged gently at Abigail's hand.

However, she jerked her hand free without even looking at him.

Nolan stared at Abigail in disbelief, yet she fixed her gaze on me. "I may not want you anymore, but that doesn't give you the right to go fooling around.

"If I ever catch you with another woman and it ends up tarnishing my reputation, I'll make every single one of them regret crossing my path."

Savannah chuckled. "I hadn't even said anything yet."For some reason, I found myself blushing. "Anyway, don't take what she said too seriously."She stared at me for a while before finally nodding. But for the rest of the meal, an inexplicable awkwardness hung between us, laced with a hint of something more. Just as we were finishing dinner, Savannah suddenly asked, "By the way, do you know why I decided to help you in the first place?"I froze for a beat, then shook my head. Back then, all I'd cared about was that she was a renowned attorney. I figured having her on my side would speed things up. It had never even crossed my mind to wonder why she'd agreed to help me.Savannah blinked. She let out a sigh and said, "You're really clueless, aren't you?"…After dinner, I met up with a friend, Adam Brooks. I asked him what Savannah meant, and he sighed as well. "You seriously still don't get it? I had a feeling Savannah liked you back in high school, and now I'm convinced

As I listened to Abigail pour her heart out, all I could think was how utterly ridiculous it was.Savannah furrowed her brow. Suddenly, she reached out, took my hand, and said coolly, "I've never met anyone as disgusting as you. Do you even realize what you've done? What makes you think you have the right to come back and go after Benjamin?"But the moment Abigail noticed our clasped hands, she broke down. "Benjamin Lambert! Who is she?" she roared, pointing at Savannah and me. "You said I was the only one! So, who is she?"Abigail grabbed my hand and pleaded, "Break up with her and come back to me, okay? I swear I don't care about your past. I really don't."I let out a dry laugh and shook her off without the slightest hesitation. "You don't care? Since when did your opinion matter? I haven't even held your past against you, yet you're already judging mine? Have you no shame?"I told you, Abigail. People who take sincerity for granted always end up alone. You brought this on

Meanwhile, Abigail still hadn't paid the penalty for breaching her contract. So, I petitioned the court to enforce the judgment. To my surprise, she showed no remorse and filed an appeal instead. But this time, she wasn't as foolish as before. She hired an attorney, who argued that the penalty was excessive and unreasonable.Of course, I had no intention of letting Abigail off the hook. I submitted the recording of the phone call where she threatened me as evidence, and it was played aloud in the courtroom. I also submitted the recording of her beloved boyfriend, Nolan. I figured it was one last little surprise I'd left her after the breakup. Abigail listened to the first recording with disdain, crossing one leg over the other. "So what does that prove? I was just running my mouth. I never threatened you. What did I ever do to you?"But the moment Nolan's voice echoed through the courtroom, her expression changed, and she sat up straight. The instant Nolan realized what t

Abigail and Nolan shot me smug looks. They radiated absolute confidence, clearly believing they had this lawsuit in the bag. In fact, they were so certain that they hadn't even bothered hiring an attorney and chose to represent themselves. Maybe they thought having their fans in the courtroom would guarantee them a win. But that confidence lasted only until Savannah rose to her feet and laid out the evidence of Abigail's tax fraud for everyone to see. "Our contract with Abigail Zimmerman clearly stated that she was prohibited from engaging in any illegal activity that could damage the organization's reputation. Any violation of that clause constituted grounds for immediate termination."Savannah went on, "To protect the organization's reputation, she was dismissed because of her drug use. Her actions also violated the terms of her contract, so we are seeking 30 million dollars in damages for breach of contract."As soon as her words settled, the fans who had been cheering loudl

Before I could respond, Abigail spoke up, her voice filled with shock. "Mr. Lambert? What did you just call him?""You didn't know, huh?" Troy said as he looked at her. "Mr. Lambert is the investor behind this organization. He only invested in us because he wanted us to bring you on. "For the past few years, he asked us to keep it a secret. But now, there's no reason to hide it anymore."Abigail frowned hard, and she stared at us in disbelief. "That's impossible. There's no way. Benjamin? Him?"I looked down at her and couldn't help finding the whole scene ridiculous. Abigail shook her head, then she screamed, "Bullshit! I don't believe a single word of this. The two of you made it up! "I'm getting a lawyer and suing both of you! You're going to pay every cent of that penalty! I'll have you thrown in prison!"Her eyes were bloodshot as she completely unraveled. The security guards on standby rushed in and hauled her out of the training center, as though she were nothing mor

I'd never met anyone as unreasonable as Abigail. "Are you out of your damn mind?" I snapped. "We already broke up. Whoever I date is none of your business! You should worry about keeping your legs shut, you worthless piece of garbage!"With that, I took Savannah's hand and walked away without so much as a backward glance.Once we stepped out of the karaoke bar, I apologized to Savannah. I sighed. "Sorry. I didn't mean for you to witness something so embarrassing. Having an ex like her feels like a permanent black mark against me."Savannah simply shook her head and smiled. "You're a good man. She's the one who didn't know what she had."We smiled at each other. Then, I took Savannah out to supper at a nearby restaurant, and we spent the meal reminiscing about our high school days. We both had a great time. By the end of it, the unpleasant encounter had completely slipped my mind. After that, Savannah drove me back to my hotel, and before we said goodbye, we exchanged cont
