Chapter 108

Author: Tightrope
Jayson never admitted it, so Ariel wasn't anyone to him.

Janice thought today had been a bad day. She wanted to take Ariel out for drinks and karaoke.

Ariel used to drink when she worked in PR. But now, with her health issues, she was doing everything she could to avoid it.

Besides, Jayson's matter no longer had much of an impact on her. She didn't need alcohol to drown her sorrows.

So, Janice called her other friends to hang out instead.

On her drive home, Ariel got a call from Chad. He asked briefly about the gallery, but Ariel just brushed it off.

"Come over for dinner tomorrow. My dad's off work. We can get on his good side while he's in a good mood."

Ariel thought about it for a moment. She had some difficulties with her new project and wanted to ask Carlos for advice, so she agreed.

"Alright, I'll pick you up tomorrow."

"Sounds good," Ariel responded.

The next day, she went to Eastgate to stand in line at a well-known pastry shop to buy Carlos' favorite palmiers.

"Ari, tell me the truth. Is there something going on between you and Jayson?" Katie's eyes were fixed on Ariel. Her gaze was full of worry.Ariel pressed her lips together, unable to bring herself to tell Katie about Jayson and Nancy.Nancy was Sarah's daughter, after all. If Katie found out, she'd be devastated."He'll come," Ariel finally said, choosing to avoid the heart of the matter.Katie stared at her for a moment, then sighed. "If it weren't for the bond between Jeremy and Timothy as war comrades, I would've confronted Betty myself by now and demanded an explanation."It was Betty who had firmly agreed to the marriage back then, promising that Ariel would never be mistreated. Katie had believed her.But now? What was with this lukewarm attitude?Ariel gently tried to calm Katie. "Grandma, it's late. You should go get some rest."She would handle these things herself. She didn't want Katie getting involved and ending up angry or hurt.Katie seemed like she wanted to say

Nancy turned to look at Colton as well, her posture composed and graceful.Colton instinctively glanced at her. After hesitating for a moment, he shook his head. "It's nothing important. Just wanted to remind you that the meeting with Mr. Boyle from Noirline is at 3:00 pm."Jayson's eyes remained unreadable. He gave a faint nod and walked into his office.Nancy followed behind him without a word.As Colton watched the two disappear into the office, he decided to keep his mouth shut. With Nancy present, bringing up Ariel felt inappropriate.Besides, Jayson had never visited Elena's grave over the past few years. Why would this time be any different?Even if he brought up the third death anniversary ceremony, there was no guarantee Jayson would agree. Colton didn't see the point of ruining their mood by mentioning Ariel.…Ariel, of course, had no idea what Colton was thinking or what had transpired. After work that evening, she didn't go home. Instead, she headed to the nursin

Once the project at Faye Technologies was stable and running smoothly, Ariel could focus on her treatment and start preparing to tell Katie and Leonard about her condition. After she changed into her clothes and stepped out, her phone buzzed incessantly.Ariel picked it up to check. It was a series of photos from Janice. The pictures were taken from a discreet angle. In them, Jayson was at a jewelry store in a shopping mall, accompanying Nancy as she browsed. She was holding a beautiful emerald necklace. It turned out that he had been on a date with Nancy and had just squeezed in time to call her.Janice wrote, "Damn it! What a bad day! I was right next door, watching Jayson swipe his card like crazy for Nancy, buying her endless luxury gifts. Just a minute ago, he bought her a seven-million-dollar emerald jewelry set."He didn't even blink! Seriously, that little mistress sure is living the high life!"Ariel slowly looked away from the photos and reflected on her marriage to Ja

Jayson was actually surprised. He had promised to send Ariel some photos of that painting, so he sent them over when he had some free time today. But to his surprise, the photos he sent only received one gray tick.He didn't even know when exactly Ariel had blocked him.Was it at the gallery? Or maybe it happened before that?Still, he didn't dwell on it much. After everything that had happened lately, it seemed odd that Ariel hadn't reacted at all.Maybe she was expressing her dissatisfaction by blocking his number now.He vaguely remembered something similar happening before. Ariel had blocked him once, only to unblock him a week later. In the end, she acted like nothing had happened. This time, however, it was a shame. It wasn't until now that Jayson realized Ariel's "effort".Ariel suddenly remembered she had blocked Jayson a long time ago—both his personal and work numbers.Only now did Jayson realize that.It wasn't really surprising, though.Even before she'd blocked

Nancy immediately picked up on the subtle jab in Janice's words. Her brow furrowed, and she shot a displeased glance at her.She didn't believe she had done anything to provoke Janice. It was likely Ariel's influence at play.Nancy glanced over at Ariel, who was approaching, and a flicker of irritation crossed her eyes.Ariel was only capable of petty schemes like this. She couldn't match her in other areas, so all she had left were these schemes.Frederick, too, was curious about Nancy's answer to Janice's question.Sure, Jayson was protective of Nancy, but he'd never actually introduced her as his girlfriend. If Jayson was only pursuing Nancy, did that mean there was still a chance for him?Zach watched Nancy, waiting for her response.Nancy pressed her lips together. Before she could speak, a tall, imposing figure stepped up beside her.Jayson's cold gaze swept over Janice and then shifted subtly to Ariel. He spoke flatly, "If you're so curious about her status, you can ask

Nancy looked confident, graceful, and poised.Zach couldn't help recalling the moment Ariel threw herself at Jayson."Who exactly is Ariel?" he asked.Frederick thought for a second. "She's with Faye Technologies now as Mr. Hockney's assistant. But if you ask me, their relationship doesn't seem strictly professional."Why would a man of Chad's status pay that much attention to a married woman like Ariel?Frederick couldn't think of any other reason other than a romantic one, which only made him see Ariel as completely shameless.Zach was genuinely surprised. He understood exactly what Frederick was implying.Chad had a spotless reputation in the industry, with no gossip or scandals. He didn't even entertain women at business dinners. He was practically a symbol of self-restraint.So Ariel had Chad wrapped around her finger and was also making moves on Jayson?"Why the sudden curiosity?" Frederick asked, raising a brow.Zach clicked his tongue and clinked glasses with him. "I

Ariel's words were stuck in her throat.Frowning, she looked up at him. "You're overthinking it, Mr. Larkin. I wasn't going to ask you for it."Jayson didn't answer right away. He simply stared thoughtfully at her face. From his angle, he noticed her slightly sharper chin. Her once delicate face now seemed even slimmer. It made her eyes appear even bigger.Suddenly, he reached out and pinched her chin, lifting her face to get a better look. His hand hovered near her waist."Did you lose weight?" Jayson asked.Ariel's waist had definitely gotten smaller. His tone was cool, but there was a hint of something else in his eyes. "Or has something been making you lose your appetite?"Ariel avoided his gaze. She was surprised that Jayson noticed the change. But that was probably where his concern ended. If he knew about her condition, he probably wouldn't care at all.She steadied herself and moved to push him away. "Can you let go now?"She didn't respond directly to his question.

Everyone just shook their heads.Even Frederick walked over and scoffed. "Of all the people you could've gone up against, you chose Ms. Stanton? With Mr. Larkin standing right there, you really thought she would walk away empty-handed?"In his eyes, anyone trying to compete with Nancy was just asking to be humiliated."If you're that upset about it, maybe bring your husband next time. Let him fight it out with Mr. Larkin," he added mockingly.Frederick had been genuinely surprised when he found out that Ariel was married.Back then, he'd actually liked her.Ariel had been stunning, calm, and self-possessed. He'd always thought of her as intelligent and refined. But then she suddenly got married. And even more shockingly, she chose to become a full-time housewife. Her world shrank to the kitchen, and her life revolved around a man. It felt like she'd thrown all her potential away. That was when Frederick's admiration soured into contempt. She was no different from all the other
