I froze too. For a second, I couldn't believe what I had just seen.

The driver immediately stepped back. "I'm sorry, sir."

Adrian cleared his throat. "It's fine."

I quickly lowered my head and pretended I hadn't noticed anything. I picked up one of the shopping bags.

"Welcome home, sir."

Adrian glanced at me.

"Thank you."

I kept my eyes on the bag. I wasn't going to laugh. I had seen absolutely nothing. Mason suddenly came running back.

"Dad, are you coming?"

"Yes."

Adrian picked up M

  • Dead to My husband    Chapter 18

When Mason said Sophia was his favorite person in the world, I didn't know what to say. I stared at him for a moment, trying to understand how a five-year-old boy from this house could possibly know my best friend. “Can you describe her to me?” I asked carefully. Mason nodded. “She is very beautiful. She has long black hair, brown eyes, and she always wears a small gold necklace. She also has a little mark here.” He pointed to the side of his face. My heart skipped. “What kind of mark?” “A small one near her cheek.” I stopped breathing for a second. There was no doubt anymore. It was Sophia. My Sophia. I knew every detail he had just described. Her long black hair, her brown eyes, the little gold necklace she almost never took off, and the tiny mark near her cheek. I looked at Mason, completely confused. “How do you know her?” “She comes to see me and mom.” My fingers tightened around the pen. “Here?” He nodded. “She brings me things and talks to me. She's nice.” I

The moment Vivian disappeared upstairs, I rushed to my room, closed the door behind me, and immediately called Sophia. She answered after a few rings. “What happened?”“I need your help again. It’s about the cameras.”“What about them?”“Xavier noticed one of them. I don't know how much he suspects, but if he starts looking around the house, he could discover the others. Is there any way they can be replaced?”Sophia was quiet for a moment before answering. “Yes, but everyone needs to leave the house first. We can't replace them while people are moving around. It would be too risky.”I sat on the edge of my bed, thinking about Adrian, Vivian, Mason, and everyone else who could be in the house. Getting all of them out at the same time wouldn't be easy.“I don't know how I'm going to make that happen,” I admitted.“You don't have to,” Sophia replied. “Mia, you can still back down from this maid disguise. File for a divorce and leave.”My jaw tightened. “If that was possible, I would hav

The driver hurried after them, looking extremely embarrassed. I pressed my lips together to stop myself from smiling. A few minutes later, Adrian took Mason upstairs. I returned to my cleaning. Then I heard footsteps coming from the upper floor. Adrian was walking toward the bedroom. He reached the door and was about to open it when it suddenly opened from the inside. Vivian stepped out. Xavier followed behind her. Adrian stopped. His eyes moved from Vivian

  • Dead to My husband    Chapter 15

I was still standing at the doorway, staring at the door in front of me. My stepmother. I hadn't seen her in eight years. Eight years since she had been forced out of the Sterling mansion after my father's death. And now she came here. I couldn't understand how she gained the right to come back here. More importantly, I couldn't understand why Vivian had called her Mom. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice someone walking up behind me. "Mia?" I didn't respond. "Mia?" I blinked when I heard my name again. I turned around and found Xavier standing behind me, staring at me with a confused expression. He looked at me, then at the living room, then back at me. "Are you planning to become part of the doorway, or are you actually going to move?" I frowned. "What?" He waved his hand in front of my face. "I've been standing here talking to you, but you're looking at that room like you've just seen a ghost." I quickly pulled myself together. "I'm fine."
