‎After packing the necessary things I would need into my bigger box, I dragged it out to the living room.

‎

‎My eyes looked up at the chandelier Kyle's grandpa had gifted me at our wedding. Tears brimmed in my eyes.

‎

‎I never imagined a day as bad as this one would ever come—a day when I'd pack out of my husband's house.

‎

‎I looked down at my palm where I had the cheque Kyle had thrown at me earlier. I tore it into several pieces and placed them on the center table.

‎

‎I wasn't here for his money, I didn't need his pity, all I wanted was to stay by his side forever and be loved by him, if he couldn't give me that, then I didn't need his money.

‎

‎I left the bag there, opened the door, and darted off from the building. I needed to get my result from Doctor Daniel, then come back, pick up my box, and be gone forever, just as Daniel wanted.

‎

‎Just as I was about to stop a taxi, my phone started ringing.

‎

‎I looked at the screen and my forehead creased. Why was he calling? To ask if I was still at his home? I already packed my things and I’d get out soon.

‎

‎I refused to take the call, as I had heard enough of his hurtful words. I'd get my result, come back, pick my box, and leave, he didn't need to harass me this much, I was once his wife for goodness sake.

‎

‎Tears I didn't know I was holding streamed down my face.

‎

‎Then my phone began ringing again. He was tormenting me. I decided to stop a taxi fast and hopped into it.

‎

‎He kept calling till I got to Doctor Daniel's office.

‎

‎"Hi, doctor," I muttered as I entered his office.

‎

‎"Welcome back Mrs Yate, I'm glad you responded quickly."

‎

‎"Yes.. Thank you. Can.." I didn't get to finish the statement as my phone started ringing again and to my amusement, it was still Kyle. What does he want so much?

‎

‎I decided to pick up the call this time. "I hate you Selene, I hate you!" his voice bellowed almost blowing off my head. Why was he still shouting that? Wasn't that why he gave me a divorce?

‎

‎I noticed the uncomfortable change in Doctor Daniel's face, he must've heard the outrageous scream.

‎

‎I moved aside a bit, the least of anything I wanted right now was to inconvenience other people with my problem. I decided to marry Kyle and I must face the consequences alone now.

‎

‎"You cunning b!tch! How dare you!" his raging voice went on and now I wondered what else had happened.

‎

‎Has he gotten home and his mistress said I stole what wasn't mine inside my box or what?

‎

‎"You told Grandpa I want to divorce you, didn't you? How dare you!" he bellowed and I scoffed.

‎

‎"You're laughing? Yes, you will love it because you don't know the implications of what you've done. Did I ask you to tell him I want a divorce from you?"

‎

‎"I never told Grandpa such a thing," I muttered through gritted teeth even though I didn't want to say anything to him again.

‎

‎"So who sent him a text with your number b!tch!" he said, adding the b!tch word that hurt me most. Kyle, a man who used to be my husband was calling me a b!tch in the most disrespectful way. Tears welled up in my eyes but I sniffed them all back in.

‎

‎All I did was send a text of appreciation for standing by me all these years to Grandpa's old line that he doesn't even use anymore. What was he talking about? I never mentioned divorce to Grandpa, and if Grandpa knew about it now, he must've found out on his own and maybe my message confirmed it for him.

‎

‎He was a man who had loved and cherished me all these years, protected me from bullies in his family—from those who often called me barren for not giving Kyle a baby. Grandpa stood by me even more than the man who claimed to be my husband. I wouldn't leave without appreciating any of that. Even though I didn't state the obvious, I thanked him from the bottom of my heart. And if he figured it all out? Even better, I'd be able to give him a proper goodbye.

‎

‎"I did send a message to grandpa but I never told him we were getting a divorce, and besides, isn't that the truth? What's wrong with him finding out? You made your decisions."

‎

‎"Everything is wrong b!tch!" he called me that again and once again my heart broke.

‎

‎"Well then, whatever is wrong with that, is none of my business, deal with it," I was about to hang up, then his voice came up again.

‎

‎"I denied it," he said and instantly went quiet.

‎

‎My eyes squinted, and I asked "What did you deny?"

‎

‎"That we are getting a divorce. Told him I'd never divorce you for anything, so you have to stay back, I'd get another place for Audrey," he muttered and I scoffed.

‎

‎I wonder what Kyle really thinks of me—I wonder what he takes me for? That I'm a fool because I loved him? I breathed in deeply, suppressing the anger building up inside of me.

‎

‎"I don't know why you did that, but it's none of my business, and I'm not staying back. I wouldn't stay in your house and I wouldn't take any more sh!t from you and your mistress, you both can go to hell. I'll come back to pick my box and disappear from your confused life forever." I muttered, this time, tears already dripping down my face.

‎

‎I suddenly realised I was in someone's office and looked around, but thank goodness he had already gone out.

‎

‎"Where are you now?" he muttered, his voice desperate but I was still wiping my tears to reply to anything.

‎

‎"You want me to lose my inheritance don't you? I've worked my ass off all these years building this business and I'm going to lose it overnight just because of some unworthy b!tch? Why did Grandpa have to tie my inheritance to you? What did you do for him so much? Of course, you brainwashed him with your innocent character, he thinks you're the best woman for me, but I lost every ounce of feeling I ever thought I had for you.  I love Audrey." he said and little did he know he was killing me, my heart shattered, I had squatted down and was drowning in so many tears as he kept talking.

‎

‎Just then, the door slid open and the doctor came in, met me on the floor of his office with tears streaming down my face, phone in front of me, and on loudspeaker.

‎

‎"I wouldn't lose my inheritance because of you b!tch. Stay back and disguise yourself as my wife till I get my inheritance. For now, you can tear those divorce papers I gave you, I'll give you another one after I get my inheritance." I kept bawling in tears as he went on.

‎

‎"I know you'll listen to me. I have to go now, Audrey needs me." he muttered and ended the call.

When I got into the house, my jaw clenched tight as I met Kyle and his mistress making out in our living room. I gulped heavily. This was a sight I was supposed to get used to now till Grandpa gets better. I balled my fist tighter and my teeth clenched. Just then, as if noticing me, they disengaged from the kiss.“Selene.” Kyle’s cold voice murmured. I nodded my head and walked past him, but he grabbed my arm. I jerked it off from his grip immediately. “You’re not leaving are you?” he muttered, his eyes panicked Of course I would leave, but after I'm done taking care of Grandpa. “Yes I’m leaving..” he didn't let me finish before he grabbed my shoulder, so tight it was beginning to hurt “What are you doing? Let me go!” I said but he still held on to my shoulder, his eyes getting cold. “How dare you, after everything I said to you? You still dare to want to leave? You want me to lose my inheritance and also risk Grandpa’s health?! How dare you!” his voice sounded, while crush

“What do you want?” I asked, my face neutral. “Selene, you must stick to the plan. Don’t cause any issues. Do what I said. Behave as if nothing happened and we are still the best couple, I never gave you a divorce.” He said, as if threatening me. “And if I don’t do that? What will you do?” I asked, my face contorted in anger and my eyes glaring hard. “Well, I wouldn’t do anything to you, but Grandpa, think about Grandpa’s health.” He said and my face went pale. He was right, if I admitted that he gave me a divorce, I was risking Grandpa’s health who loved me so much. My cold eyes glared hard at him, and I wrenched my arm away from his grip.I looked between him and his mistress, and I turned around to leave. “Selene you have to do as I told you.” He whispered behind my back as I took off. I heaved a heavy sigh, torn between what to do. On one hand, my marriage with Kyle was over and he had his mistress, on the other hand I found out I was pregnant and now I had to pretend ever

Sign it as fast as possible," he said with so much ease that made me wondered if he had ever loved me for the past five years of our marriage. ‎ ‎"Kyle.." I muttered, my voice low, struggling to stifle the tears threatening to flow down my eyes. ‎ ‎"Let's talk this through. We've been married for five years. You can't throw this away for no reason. We've been building this for a long time. Please don't do this to us Kyle. And if this is a prank, you got me." I said, letting out a dry anxious laugh. ‎ ‎But Kyle never laughed back—he didn't say it was a prank. He refused to ease my pounding heart. My leg wobbled and I fell to the floor, my eyes never leaving his. ‎ ‎Those eyes, he meant it. Kyle had made up his mind to throw our marriage away. ‎ ‎I wondered what happened, I wondered why my husband of good five years
