Nolan’s Pov

The music was loud. The champagne was decent. The business talk? Boring, as usual.

I nodded politely at the men around me. They were going on and on about contracts, mergers, expansion. I’d heard this same speech at a dozen parties.

Then my eyes drifted around and I saw Lilith in the corner.

Alone.

She was drinking.

She downed one glass, then another. Her hand moved too quickly. Her head tilted back too far. She wasn’t sipping. She was trying to forget.

I stopped listening to the conversation. One of the men said something to me, but my focus had already left.

“Excuse me,” I muttered. “I’ll be right back. Just a sec.”

I set my glass down on the table and walked away. My steps were steady, but inside I felt this strange pull. Like something was about to go wrong.

She didn’t even see me coming.

She was in her own world. Her eyes glazed, her body slightly swaying to the music. She looked hurt. Tired. Lost.

After trying to talk to drunk Lilith, everything happened so fast

  • Dear Wife, I Hate You   Chapter 20

Lilith’s PovI woke up feeling like a human again. Thank God. After three whole days of being glued to that damn bed like a corpse in silk pajamas, I was finally able to sit up without seeing stars. I stretched my arms and yawned, almost forgetting I looked like a mess. Not that anyone other than Rose and Nolan cared.Nolan.Sweet Nolan with those soft eyes and warm voice. Always asking if I’d eaten, checking my temperature like some private nurse I never hired. He deserved better than Zoey. Much better. Too bad he didn’t know she was busy being loyal to everyone but him.A knock on my door snapped me out of my guilt spiral.Rose peeked in, bright smile as usual. “You’re awake.”“No, this is my ghost,” I deadpanned. She chuckled. “How do you feel?”“Like I died and came back with attitude,” I said, stretching again. “I’m okay now. Tell Killian to cancel the memorial.”“I’ll bring your breakfast up.”“Do you want me to stay sick forever?” I gave her the ‘I’m watching you’ look. She rai

Nolan’s PovMassaging her feet didn’t feel weird at all. In fact, it felt... natural. Like something I was supposed to do. Something she needed.“I don’t think you should be doing this,” Lilith said quietly, her voice a fragile whisper. “It’s not necessary. I’m okay.”I looked at her. Pale skin, tired eyes, but still managing to be breathtaking. “I know you’re not okay,” I replied, keeping my tone gentle. “Just let me do it.”She hesitated. “Are you sure? Do you think anyone will have a problem with it?”“Anyone can have a problem with it,” I said, shrugging lightly. “But you’re sick, Lilith. You need all the care you can get.”That made her smile faintly. She lay her head back against the pillow, letting herself relax.I kept my eyes on her—those eyes that always seemed to carry the weight of things unspoken. Even sick, she looked beautiful. Too beautiful. Her lashes fluttered as she blinked slowly, and I couldn’t stop staring.“How are you feeling now?” I asked softly. She shook her

Lilith’s Pov I don’t even know why I asked Zoey that question. Maybe I shouldn’t have. Maybe I should’ve kept it to myself, acted like I never saw anything at all. But how do you sit on the edge of something so wrong and pretend like it’s not shaking the ground beneath you?And now, here I am. I asked. And she’s staring at me like I just stabbed her in the back.“What are you talking about?” Zoey snapped, her brow tightening.“You know what I’m talking about,” I said, my voice low. “When I was coming upstairs, I saw you… kissing a man that’s not Nolan.”She scoffed and crossed her arms. “Oh, so now you caught me. What—are you trying to lecture me?”“No,” I said quickly. “That’s not it. I just… I just want to know if you’re okay. Is something going on? Something bothering you?”“Don’t act all caring,” she hissed. “Don’t act like you give a damn. Mind your f***ing business.”I blinked, stunned by the bitterness in her voice. Her eyes were hard—colder than I’d ever seen them. I wasn’t e

I didn’t expect those words to come out of Killian’s mouth.“Wait… what?” I blinked. “What did you just say?”He looked me dead in the eye, no emotion on his face. “You heard me.”My heart was pounding.“They wanted to rape my so-called wife,” he continued, each word laced with disgust, “because she decided to get drunk and wander off like a child. I saved you, Lilith. And this—” he gestured between us, “—this is how you repay me?”I stood there, stunned, my throat dry. I didn’t know. I didn’t even remember.“I… I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I didn’t know. I didn’t think… it would ever be like that.”Killian’s laugh was cold. “Of course, you didn’t. But what hurt me wasn’t that you were drunk. It was that when I found you, you didn’t even fight back. You looked like you were ready to let them touch you.”I shook my head, tears already burning my eyes. “That’s not true—”“You don’t have to pretend to be sorry,” he snapped. “I know what you are. I know you wanted it. All three of them. Mayb

Lilith’s PovAfter Nolan walked out of the kitchen, I stood there frozen. What just happened? My fingers curled around the cold glass of juice, but I could barely feel it. My mind was racing. What was he talking about? What happened last night? Did I do something? Something wrong? He looked at me like I was some kind of trigger—like I had caused something I didn’t even remember. And the way he stood in front of me…So tall. So silent. So much like Killian.I didn’t like how small I felt.I shook the thought off and forced myself to move. I had to take the juice upstairs to Emily. As I climbed the stairs, my mind wandered again.Should I tell Zoey? She did say he’s been acting strange. But… no. Not yet. I need to figure this out first. Not telling doesn’t make me a bad person. I just want to know what I did. When I got to the room, Emily’s face lit up.“Oh my God,” she said, taking the glass from my hand and immediately taking a sip. “This is so refreshing.”I smiled faintly and sat be

Lilith’s PovI didn’t know I’d wake up with a pounding headache, standing in front of Killian, with Emily by my side, declaring war on him like we were in some kind of battlefield.I could barely even open my eyes fully, and now this? Before things got worse, I stepped in.“Emily, just stop.” My voice came out hoarse and tired.“No,” she snapped. But before she could continue whatever dramatic speech she had lined up, I gently grabbed her wrist and pulled her along. We walked to my room in silence. Once we got in, I closed the door behind us and turned to face her.“Emily… you didn’t have to do that.”She raised her brow. “Is that how you greet your best friend who came all the way here to check on you?”I blinked. “No, that’s not what I meant.”And then, without thinking, I pulled her into a hug.She hugged me back, holding tight like she hadn’t seen me in years. When we finally let go, she looked me straight in the eyes and said, “I’m not sorry for what I did. Just so you know. I ne

Killian's Pov The party was wrapping up. People were leaving. Some too drunk to walk straight. Others pretending they weren’t tired.I was standing near the exit, scrolling through my phone when Nolan’s text came in.“I'm home with Zoey. Just in case you’re looking for me.”I didn’t reply.I hadn’t seen Lilith since that mess between us earlier. And truthfully, I didn’t care.At least that’s what I kept telling myself. She couldn’t even sit still. Always looking for attention. If it wasn’t hugging strangers, it was flirting with another one. She was a magnet for trouble. My wife.No. I didn’t even want to call her that right now.Still… my thumb hovered over Nolan’s name. And before I knew it, I was typing.“Is Lilith with you?”His reply came quick.“No. I left her at the party.”I stared at the screen for a second. Why did I even ask?Why did I even care? But something shifted in my chest. An uneasy feeling. I looked around, just casually, like I wasn’t worried. Just… checking.I d

Lilith’s Pov The drive to the party venue was quiet. The kind of silence that sticks to your skin and makes your thoughts louder than they should be. I was sitting next to Killian. Zoey and Nolan were in the car just behind us. And still, it felt like I was completely alone.Killian didn’t spare me a glance. His eyes were fixed on his phone, fingers scrolling like he had more important things to handle than breathing the same air as me. I peeked at him from the corner of my eye. He was reading some documents.Even now? Still working? God, when doesn’t this man work? The silence stretched. The awkwardness was choking. At that point, I started wishing Zoey was with me instead. At least then I’d have someone to talk to. Someone who didn’t act like I was a mistake he was being forced to deal with.I turned my head and looked out of the window. The city lights blurred into gold and silver streaks as we drove past. I tried to lose myself in it.Then, the car slowed to a stop.Killian’s voi
