THE NEXT DAY *AT J HOLDINGS*
The air was tense in the building as three elegantly dressed individuals stood outside the doors - their behavior and mannerisms a stark contrast from their outward appearance. “Do you not know who we are? Get out of our way!” Jane yelled, trying to get past the security officers whose hands were wide open, stopping them from going into the building. Jane scoffed in disbelief, clutching her designer bag and flipping her hair dramatically. “You all must have a dead wish.” “We are here to see our daughter. Step aside!” Charles stepped in, puffing his chest as a way of intimidating the security officers but, he was no match for the hefty-looking men. “My apologies, Mr and Mrs O’Neil but, we have received clear orders from Miss Renee not to let any family member into the building.” The head guard said politely and their eyes flew open. “What?” Charles cocked his head to the side and raised his brows in disbelief. “That’s impossible! Renee would never do that to us! Not after everything we have done for her.” Jane laughed. They were all still oblivious to the fact that Renee had overheard their conversation about taking over her parent's company and kicking her out so, they thought she was still as naive as before and was only acting out because of her husband’s infidelity and her sister’s betrayal. “Call her out right now! We’ll speak to her ourselves.” Charles demanded. Chloe stood in a corner, covering her face in embarrassment as eyes watched them from all angles, some already pulling out their phones to record. “Isn't that Miss O’Neil’s family?” “Did she throw them out?” Some whispered, laughing. The guards looked amongst themselves in frustration. They wouldn’t be able to call their boss because she wasn’t in but, they couldn’t let the angry bunch into the building after the stern warning from Renee a day ago. It was truly a frustrating event for them. Arriving on time to salvage the situation, Priya walked out of the building, dressed in a white suit and her hair packed in a sleek bun. She had heard the commotion on her way to the storage room and after asking one of the workers about the situation, she found out that the O’Neils were causing a scene outside the building. “What is going on here?” She asked with a frown. “Good, Priya’s here.” Jane breathed out in relief and stepped back, waving her hands to Priya in a condescending manner. “Come! Tell them who we are and take me to my daughter immediately!” The guards turned to Priya with a look of frustration. “We’ve been trying our best, Ma’am. They just won't leave.” “I’ll take it from here.” She said and stood before the O’Neils. “Good day, Mr and Mrs O’Neil.” She smiled professionally. “As much as I want to help, we do have strict orders from our boss so, we cannot let you in. I can help you pass a message to Miss Jackson if you have any.” She finished. “Have you gone mad?” Jane fired immediately, her face twisting in disgust. “How dare a mere assistant tell us not to go into our building?!” She scoffed, eyeing Priya. “I think you're mistaken, Ma’am. This company belongs to Renee, not the O’Neils.” She corrected with a smile. Jane’s face twisted with rage and her eyes flared. “I see you now think you're something just because you work closely with Renee but, I promise you, you are messing with the wrong people,” Jane said through gritted teeth. “Enough of all this! Let's go in and speak to Renee first. Then, we’ll handle this lowlife.” Charles said and grabbed Chloe’s hand. “You won’t find her in,” Priya said just as they neared the door, causing them to stop abruptly. “Well, what hotel is she staying at?” Jane asked impatiently. “I don’t think you understand, Mrs O’Neil,” Priya said and turned to them. “Renee is gone. She is no longer in the country and she won’t be for a very long time.” She announced. The shock on their faces was priceless and fulfilling. “W-what are you on about?” Chloe finally spoke, her heart racing with fear. She knew that her life would be ruined without Renee around to help cover up her messes. “Renee would never leave J holdings. She loves it too much. This bitch is just bluffing. We should go in and speak to her already.” Jane said, rolling her eyes. “Believe it or not, that won't change the truth. You could search the entire country but you still won’t be able to find her.” She smirked and folded her arms. “Oh and, you should watch the way you talk to me from now on.” She raised her chin and straightened her back. “I am acting CEO now.” The O’Neils staggered back. Their faces filled with horror. “Liar!” Charles spoke, shaking with anger. “How dare you make such claims?” He growled. He had always considered J Holdings as his and hoped to take over one day, leaving his measly role as a director of one of the companies under J Holdings. He had a plan that was going smoothly until Daniel and Chloe ruined things. Hearing that Priya who was only a secretary got to be CEO and not him made his blood boil. If Renee was going to be absent, he believed that it was only right that he should be the acting CEO. “I don't believe you! I'd rather hear it from Renee myself!” “Dad!” Chloe called out, her eyes wide open with disbelief as she stared at her phone. “S-she isn't lying.” She said and showed him the breaking news. ‘Priyanka Pratel appointed as acting CEO of JHoldings as Renee Jackson vanishes.’ “Took them long enough…” Priya sighed, flipping her hair dramatically. The O’Neils stared at themselves, shocked by the news. “That ungrateful bitch!” Jane hissed, her eyes watering. Priya decided that they had caused enough trouble and decided to call it a day. “Well, I guess your doubts have been cleared. Please, leave the premises immediately.” She said and turned to leave when she remembered vital information. “Oh and…” She said, reaching into her pocket. “Renee asked me to give you this.” She said and threw a check for fifteen million dollars to them. “That is way more than what you spent on her since taking her in. She's also going to be kind enough to let you, Mr O’Neil keep your job as a director. Renee wishes you all well.” Priya smiled. “Oh and…she is no longer Renee O’Neil but, Renee Jackson.”Do we think Renee made the right decision by leaving and cutting her family off?
Daniel sat in his mini wine bar, a bottle of whiskey in hand and his phone in the other. He had been dialing Renee’s number nonstop with the hope that she would suddenly pick up even though he knew the chances were slim as he had been blocked.“Fuck.” He hissed, gripping his phone tightly out of frustration, and his handsThe door soon opened with a bang and Daniel looked up from his drink just in time to see Chloe storm into the bar with a twisted face.“Wow, Daniel. Wow! Things are getting worse yet you have the time to drink.” She clapped mockingly.“This here…this is why Renee left you. You’re completely useless!” She fired.Daniel hissed, having had enough of her tantrums. “Don’t walk into my house and start yelling like a mad woman. What do you want?” He asked nonchalantly and took another gulp from his bottle.Chloe tapped her feet impatiently, her body shaking. “Are you aware that Renee is gone?”He paused.“What are you talking about? She’s staying in a hotel. I will be going
The house was quiet, the scent of roses lingering in the air and the candlelight casting a soft glow in the living room just like she wanted. The maids had done a wonderful job with the décoration. Everything was perfect just as she had planned. Today marked another year of her marriage with the love of her life, Daniel Davids. The man she believed would be her forever. In her hands was a bottle of vintage wine which was a symbol of love, trust, and commitment. She had rushed home early, excited to surprise him. She had texted earlier to ask when he would be returning but he let her know that he would be running late due to some meetings but, Renee didn’t complain. She was in fact happy that she had enough time to prepare for their anniversary dinner. She made her way to the bedroom door which was slightly opened, smiling from ear to ear but as she neared it, her face fell and her knees buckled. Her husband, Daniel was naked, his clothes scattered on the ground as he thrusted int
The night’s air was cool but Renee’s blood wasn’t. She sat motionless in her office seat, her eyes bloodshot with tears streaming down her cheeks uncontrollably. The weight of what she had just witnessed crushed her. The scene was still fresh in her mind no matter how much she tried to forget it. She could still see her husband and sister tangled up in her sheets. ‘That woman is nothing but bad news.’ Those words haunted her and drove her to insanity. Her jaw clenched and her throat tightened. With one sniff, she stopped the tears and used the back of her hand to clean them off. She wasn’t going to cry anymore. Not for him…not for Chloe. Her doors flung open and her best friend and assistant came running in. She ended the call immediately after she heard those words from Renee and made her way to the office. When she entered, the look on her face told Renee that she was ready to kill. “Ree! What was that you said over the phone? You’re getting a divorce? Why? What did that son
The morning sun crept through the curtains, casting a golden glow across the room but it was the opposite for Renee. There was no warmth left in her heart and all that was left was resentment and the thirst for revenge. She lay for an extra minute on the bed knowing that today was the start of her reclaiming her life and ending her relationship with Daniel. She slid out of bed and freshed up quickly. The weight and pain that pressed on her chest the night before had been replaced by something sharper- the need to erase Daniel from her life. When she arrived downstairs, she found him sitting at the dining table with coffee in one hand and his phone in another. Noticing her presence, he glanced up with the same sweet smile. He stood up and made his way to her before wrapping his arm around her.“Good morning, Babe.” He greeted them in a smooth voice and leaned in to kiss her lips but she swerved lightly.“Morning.” Her reply was cold and unusual. Daniel found himself wondering what the
After what seemed to be hours to Renee, she finally stepped out of the restroom, her eyes red with pain and her heart shattered. Even though she had wiped her tears, the tears were still visible to anyone who cared to look. She cleared her throat one more time, forcing a mask onto her face to seal the pain. She was going to let them believe she was still clueless but, only for a short time. She walked back into the dining room to see them all laughing and gisting, laughter echoing through the room. Daniel was the first one to sense her return. He turned to her with a bright smile. “You took forever in there. We were starting to wonder if you were giving birth.” He joked and everyone at the table laughed, everyone except Renee. Instead, she swallowed hard and balled her fists, holding herself from exploding. The dinner dragged on for two painful hours, with her foster parents fawning over Daniel and completely ignoring her existence except when Chloe threw a smug comment at her.
LATER THAT DAY Daniel walked into the house late at night after having dinner with Chloe at a hotel. He was ready for Renee’s questioning about why he was late. His excuse of course was always that he had a business dinner and she believed him… every time As he kicked the door shut, he noticed a sudden quietness. Usually, Renee would be in the kitchen heating his meal after hearing his car in the driveway or, she would be seated in the living room, waiting for him. This time, there was no sound from the kitchen and there was no one in the living room. Frowning, he dropped his keys on the glass table and loosened his tie. “Renee?” He called out, walking towards the kitchen. “Honey, I’m home.” He announced. There was no answer. ‘Is she still mad about yesterday?’ He scoffed, chuckling under his breath. He rolled his eyes and climbed the stairs, making his way to the bedroom. “Come on, Renee. You’re too mature for this. Don’t tell me you’re still making a fuss about that even afte
Chloe’s face paled as she stared at Daniel, her eyes begging him to say it was a joke. “What do you mean she's asking for a divorce? How could you be so stupid and let her find out about your affair?” Charles almost yelled, jogging down the stairs with a terrified look on his face. “H…have you tried calling her? It might just be a joke. We all know that Renee would never try to divorce you. She's too in love with you to do that.” Chloe spoke up. “Well, she did!” Daniel yelled and Charles's head snapped. “Quit yelling and look for a solution! The morning light filtered into the room through the light curtains, hitting Renee’s head. She blinked, hoping to open her eyes but was immediately hit with a stabbing headache that felt like she was being pricked with a thousand needles. With a groan, she blinked again- slowly this time and waited for her eyes to adjust to the light. When she did, a frown crept onto her face as she looked around the unfamiliar room. How did she end up here? She looked around the bed and saw her clothes lying unbothered on the ground. That was when her eyes dropped to her body and a sharp gasp left her immediately.“Oh my God!” She whispered, fiddling with the sheets. She was naked in an unfamiliar room all by herself! She shot up, clutching the sheets against her bare chest as her heart thundered against her ribs.Racking her brain as if her life depended on it, Renee tried to remember how she ended up in a strange room. The last thing she remembered was saying hello to a stranger minutes after Priya
