view moreThe house was quiet, the scent of roses lingering in the air and the candlelight casting a soft glow in the living room just like she wanted. The maids had done a wonderful job with the décoration.
Everything was perfect just as she had planned. Today marked another year of her marriage with the love of her life, Daniel Davids. The man she believed would be her forever. In her hands was a bottle of vintage wine which was a symbol of love, trust, and commitment. She had rushed home early, excited to surprise him. She had texted earlier to ask when he would be returning but he let her know that he would be running late due to some meetings but, Renee didn’t complain. She was in fact happy that she had enough time to prepare for their anniversary dinner. She made her way to the bedroom door which was slightly opened, smiling from ear to ear but as she neared it, her face fell and her knees buckled. Her husband, Daniel was naked, his clothes scattered on the ground as he thrusted into a blonde-haired woman whose face she couldn't see. The sound of their skin slapping against each other feels like a blunt knife being twisted into Renee’s heart. Daniel whispers something into the woman’s ears and she giggles. She then turns around, swaying her buttocks seductively, and finally sits on his legs. Renee freezes and her eyes widen as the woman’s face finally comes into view and is revealed to be none other than her sister, Chloe. It was bad enough that her husband was cheating on her but it was a bigger slap on the face that it was her sister and even worse, on their matrimonial bed and their wedding anniversary. She should have burst in. She should have screamed or broken something. She should have gone in and pulled her sister’s hair like an angry wife but, she didn't. Instead, she stood at the door watching them with tears in her eyes. Something in her suddenly snaps and she pulls out her phone, taking a video of them as evidence. A few thrusts from her husband and they both collapse on the bed, coiled up against each other. “Does Renee know you fuck this good?” She asked with a coy smile. “Renee? Please don’t ruin this moment by mentioning her. That woman is nothing but bad news.” Daniel ruthlessly says and sits up so he can kiss Chloe. “You’re all I want to think about right now, Chloe. It's already bad enough that I have to spend the whole night with her.” He added, shaking his head in disgust and Chloe’s smile widened. “That’s all I want to hear.” A satisfied smile spreads across Chloe’s face and she grabs him by his neck, leaning in to kiss him. Seeing this, Renee decides that she has had enough and she moves away from the door, her eyes filled with unshed tears. Leaning quietly against the wall, she wondered where things had gone wrong. She wondered when things went south in her and Daniel’s relationship. They had made love just this morning and he had confessed his undying love for her, promising to spend forever with her so how did all of that change in seven hours? “You said you loved me, Daniel?” She sobbed quietly. “Why? Why would you do this? And with Chloe?” Her vision had become blurry and her heart broke. She loved Daniel. “You…you said you were happy.” Or has it always been a lie? She met Daniel a few days after her eighteenth birthday where it was revealed that her birth parents who died in an accident when she was only six years old, owned a billion-dollar company that had now been passed down to her. She still remembered his angelic face when he saved her from her bullies at prom night. That was the night she fell in love with him and since then, she had loved no other! He was her first love…after her father. But, like all good things, that didn’t last and her father was taken from her six years after her birth. After the death of her parents, she was taken in by the O’Neils, her parent's best friends who took care of her and raised her alongside their daughter, Chloe. Because of this, when it was revealed that she was actually a rich heiress, she took it upon herself to take care of all their financial need and make sure they never lacked a thing. She even used her influence to get Chloe into the modeling industry and help Daniel start his own company. She built their dreams but they shattered her world in return. Suddenly, something snapped in Renee and she was immediately filled with rage, the feeling of betrayal seeping in more than ever. The hurt and pain in her now that overpowering every good that had been done. It was only a handful. She had sacrificed everything for them and was even willing to give her life for them but they repayed her with a betrayal. A very hurtful one. Seething in anger, she stood to her feet and walked as fast as her legs could carry her, each step reminding her of the betrayal she had just witnessed. As she walked past the dining room, the candle that had been set up for their anniversary dinner flickered until it gave up. Maybe that signified the end of their marriage. Renee didn't stop walking until she was outside the mansion’s gate where she let out a scream she had been holding. She clenched her fists so tightly, her fingernails digging so hard into her flesh that it almost drew blood but, that was nothing compared to the pain she felt in her chest. Was this what betrayal felt like? She was the fool for trusting Daniel all in the name of love. Now, the calm, devoted wife was dead. All that was left was a woman who refused to be broken by the people she loved. She had no business being with a man who could cheat on her so ruthlessly and still fool her by pretending to be a loving husband. Fingers trembling and tears gushing out of her eyes she took out her phone and dailed the number of the last person she trusted. “H-hey, Priya.” She sniffed. “I’m getting a divorce. Please help me get the documents ready.”AFTER THE MEETINGThe boardroom slowly emptied, board members whispering among themselves, still trying to digest what they had just witnessed. They had expected drama in the meeting, but not like this. Renee had stepped in and made things chaotic. But, as the room cleared out, one man remained seated at the end of the table…Bryan Taylor of Taylor Industries. He hadn’t taken his eyes off Renee since she walked in. A sly, proud smile stayed on his lips as he watched her take charge of her empire. He waited until Priya stepped out before standing from his seat, and for some reason, Renee remained in the boardroom, waiting for an opportunity to speak to him.“That was impressive.” He said, his voice deep and calm.Renee sighed softly, flashed him a small smile, and stood.“Bryan. I wasn’t expecting to you.” She admitted. She had only been back for two days but had seen Bryan way more than she had since they left high school.“Shareholder, remember?” He reminded, and she nodded slowly.“
Did you miss me?” She asked, her eyes scanning the large board room with a large grin. The room remained frozen in silence, everyone was unable to comprehend the fact that she was actually standing before them, especially under such circumstances.Renee held her ground at the head of the table, her hands still resting on the polished surface, her posture exuding authority.“M…Mrs Rayne?” The legal advisor who stood at the podium said in a shaky breath.“It’s Renee Jackson now.” She replied, locking eyes with Jane, who looked like she had just seen a ghost.“Well…” She hummed and sat on the chair at the head of the table. “I’ll keep this brief. I’m sure we all have things to do.” She began, her voice calm and deliberate.“First.” She started and glanced at Priya, who was standing just behind her. “I’d like to thank Priya for handling things smoothly in my absence. I am truly grateful that the stocks have been stable under her care.”Priya smiled briefly, blushing at Renee’s praise. The
Back at the gala hall, Renee sipped her last drink and turned to Priya, glued to her hip. “I need to leave. I don’t think I can stay here much longer.”Priya nodded, fully understanding the situation. “Of course. I’ll go get your purse.”Before she could leave, Renee grabbed her arm, staring at the entrance. “I can’t go out that way.” She said, keeping her voice low.“I barely managed to get in here without being spotted by them. I don’t think I’ll be that successful anymore, especially after that big reveal. I’m sure runouts would have been spreading by now.” She explained.Priya nodded knowingly. “There’s a back exit. I’ll walk you there. Come on.” She said, quickly grabbing Renee’s purse.Without wasting time, she led Renee away from the buzzing crowd and calm music. They walked through a dimly lit hallway, and soon, the echoes of the distant music and chatter from the crowd faded and were replaced by the rhythmic clacking of their heels.Once they arrived at the back door, Renee p
SMACK!The sting on Renee’s cheek died as soon as it came. She moved her tongue to the side, touching her cheek from the inside. Her eyes then turned back to face Jane, her eyes filled with rage.Jane couldn’t hide the fact that she was threatened by Renee’s calmness. She didn’t flinch or attach her. Instead, she took slow steps to her, only stopping when she was a step away from her.“This will be the last time you do something like that.” She said in a low, calm voice but, undeniably dangerous.Jane cleared her throat, covering her fear with a scoff. She crossed her arm and blinked. “Or what? You’ll glare me to death?”“I’m not the same girl you used to push around. Don’t make me do something we’ll both regret.” She said, ignoring Jane’s comment.“That’s enough!” Charles said from the side, placing his hand on Jane’s shoulder and shooting Renee a deadly glare.“That’s not how you should speak to your mother!” He scolded.Renee scoffed at his statement. That word and the woman standi
“I never signed the divorce papers, dear wife,” Daniel said with a wide grin.Renee’s eyes twitched and her heart dropped in disappointment. This wasn’t the news she expected.Daniel’s grin widened in expectation. He wanted to see the look of disappointment on her face, maybe a scream or a gasp—any visible reaction but, she did none of that.Instead, she tilted her head and gave him a faint smile. “That’s not a problem, Daniel. I can always make another copy. In my eyes, we are no longer together with or without the divorce papers.” She said and turned to Bryan.“Forgive me, Bryan but we would need to catch up later. I have somewhere important to be.” She said in a razor-sharp tone without smiling and walked away, ignoring Daniel who kept staring at her like a hawk.As soon as she left, he turned to Bryan, fury dancing in his eyes.“I don’t want you talking to my wife.” He said bluntly, his chest heaving.Bryan chuckled slowly and placed his hands in his pocket, his eyes cold and void
“Renee…Renee Jackson.” Loud gasps erupted from all corners of the hall, everyone turning to see if it was really Renee Jackson who had disappeared a year and six months ago. Priya held her breath and turned in the direction of the voice. “Oh my God!” “Is that…” “It can't be!” “It is her!” There she sat, legs crossed confidently, her black dress long and elegant, framing her goddess-like features perfectly. There was a black fascinator over her head, making her unrecognizable as it covered a large part of her face. Slowly but intentionally, she took it off. Eyes watched her like a hulk, everyone waiting impatiently for the big reveal. As soon as the covering was fully removed from her face, Priya let out of breath she didn’t know she was holding and her hand clasped her mouth as she muffled a scream. “Oh my God!” “It is really her!” “Renee is back!” People whispered loudly from all directions. Meanwhile, Daniel and the O’Neils looked like they had seen a ghos
