LATER THAT DAY Daniel walked into the house late at night after having dinner with Chloe at a hotel. He was ready for Renee’s questioning about why he was late. She blinked, hoping to open her eyes but was immediately hit with a stabbing headache that felt like she was being pricked with a thousand needles.
