The rest of the members surrounded Alice, protectively. Each one of them had an expression of pain and remorse on their face.
"I tried," Juliet mumbled miserably, "I tried making the club sound boring and dull so that Alice wouldn't join."
"I should've broken Emilia's rules and told you the truth," Gwen said sadly, "I'm so sorry, Alice. I was frightened about what would happen to me if I did..."

Cursing, she crawled to her knees and examined the damage. Her eyes rubbernecked over the skirt and decided that the tear was too much to mend. The skirt had a large gash, slashed through the centre.
