A yawn escaped me as I stood on the paved road in front of my apartment building at five-fifty. Yes, I was ten minutes early for I didn't wanna anger the tycoon any more than he already was.
A cold breeze blew past me, raising the hairs at the back of my neck. Holy pumpkins! A shudder rippled through me as my hands shot up, rubbing my arms warm. It was almost the end of September and the beginning of fall. The yellowish hues in the leaves apprised of that.
Ugh! This man was impossible. Who the hell woke up this early? On cue, the soft pitter-patter around, perked my ears, and I scanned around, spotting the only other early risers.
Me and the squirrels.
Perfect.
Letting out more yawns, I slid on the stairs, leaning against the wall. My eyes attempted to glue together, but my head reminisced his enraged ones, alarming all my organs to wide-awake mode.
Hello, everyone! First of all, thank you very much for reading my book! Secondly, if you like it, please leave a review. Because one review from you guys will always make my day and thrive me to be a better writer. Stay safe! Lots of love xoxoxo
"Wh-What truth?" I felt my face draining of all colors."Why?" He breathed."W-Why what?"He stepped closer as his intense gaze penetrated through me. "Why do you wanna come with me? Are you concerned for my life, or are you only carrying out your duty?"I stared at him. For a second, I thought he found out my lies, but looked like the facade got another unfortunate day to live. He watched me, waiting for my answer. So closing my eyes, I sucked in a deep breath for this question was equally hard to answer."Both." The word slipped my lips in stark honesty.I opened my eyes to see the corners of his lips lifting in a hypnotizing smile, like he was satisfied by my reply, like he was expecting it. Swirling around, he strolled out."Come on, Ms Green. We still have a survey to complete.""Wait!" I ran after him. "
Waking up never felt so good before, neither smelled my comforter this pleasant. Pulling it closer, I inhaled the rich woody smell of amber dry cedar and fresh, sophisticated citrus with a spicy undertone, feeling my knees weakening.Mhmm, just like Mr Kingston's.Mr Kingston? Now why would my bed smell of my boss?Unless...My eyes snapped open as I shot to a sitting position and looked around in frantic motions. Gray and white walls with the same textured furniture and a golden map engraved over the headboard. Nope. That was definitely not my room.Last night's memories resurfaced in my head. On the ride back home, I fell asleep. I supposed Mr Kingston didn't disturb me and let me stay the night at his house. This must be his room.Wait! Did we sleep in the same bed? No, no. What was I thinking? A gentleman such as Mr Kingston, would
"Leave me alone," I grumbled, pulling my blanket over my face."Girl, did ya get your period?" Brooke questioned, oblivious to my situation."No, she got hers a week ago," Blake answered, and then there prevailed a moment of awkward silence before he began stuttering, "I-I... uh... she... I..."I could just imagine the pair of tomatoes taking over his cheeks."No need to explain, weirdo," Brooke grimaced. I could also imagine the face she was making at this given chance."I-I'm not explaining.""Then what are you doing?""None of your business," Blake finally grunted. He was all sweet and shy until provoked.I could feel her rolling her eyes and driving her attention back to me. "Haze, come out already!" She pulled at my blanket, but anticipating her actions, I had my grip firm."First you g
Pushing my head in through the half-opened door, I flashed my smile bones at the manager. "Mr Cortez! You looking fine today. Did you get a haircut?"He blinked, his palm running over his short quiff that I had been seeing at the same shape since I joined, but compliments didn't have to be a timely thing, right?"Yeah, I did. Three weeks ago."I walked inside with a sweet toothy smile. "Means you look fabulous everyday."His face lit up as he straightened up in his chair, puffing out his chest. "Well, thank you, Ms Green!"Such a great man he was. So easy to content.I slammed a stack of files on his table, startling the glee off his face."What are these?" he queried, furrowing his brows."Files," I answered curtly."I can see they are files, Ms Green, but what is my purpose with them?""You have
"Ms Green, you either listen to me, or the consequences will not be in your favor," Mr Cortez spoke, enunciating each word slowly. I nodded, licking my lips. My heart throbbed in the corner of my chest like a timid cat. "I will do as you say." "Good. Do not, I repeat, do not go near Mr Kingston unless he requires your presence." I nodded again. "He is beyond pissed today." Closing his eyes, he exhaled loud in relief. "Almost threw the globe at me." "But what happened?" I asked, curious. "Well, I don't know much, but," He leaned closer and whispered, "I think it has something to do with his mother." "Oh." My eyes rounded in acknowledgement. "I will go finish my
"What the hell is this here for?" Brooke eyed the third backpack in the backseat beside her. "He is not invited." She pointed an accused finger at Blake."Unlike you, I keep things near for safety measures," Blake bit back while driving us to the location Mr Kingston ordered me to wait in.I stared at him with raised brows. I very well knew what flavor pancakes he was cooking in his head right now. He had been against me going to that vacation. According to him, Mr Kingston was a dangerous man, and I should stay away from him. But when Brooke battled against him, he had to step back. So he insisted on driving us there with an extra backpack."You're not doing anything like that, caveman," I warned him. "I'm only going there to work, and Brooke will be there to take care of me.""She can't even take care of herself," he scoffed, referring to Brooke's clumsiness."Hey! At least I don't for
Rushing to the corner room, we came across a vexed Jaz. On noticing me, her jaw tensed. "This is my room! Take your filthy cloth out of here," she yelled.I glanced down on the floor where my hoodie rested now. A sense of heat rushed through my veins, burning everywhere they touched. I wished I could channel it straight to her face. Insted inhaling deep and exhaling off my anger, I stepped forward and bent down to get it when another hand grabbed it from behind. I straightened up to see Mr Kingston glaring at his sister."What is this behavior with a guest?" he gritted out to her in a low intimidating voice that would send anyone running with their tail in-between their legs.Instead she let out a humorless laugh. "Guest you say? I thought she was here as an employee.""Jaz-""It's alright, sir." I cut him off, placing a hand on his arm. "It was my mistake. I should have asked first. I'l
With all eyes on me, I jabbed my fork into the pancake and ran the knife through, cutting out a small piece, then stuffed it in my mouth. The honeyed taste of buttery fluffiness had the power to remind one of their home, to fill their heart with fullness. Just like every other day at home. Then I glanced at the plate of mac and cheese, glowing golden before me. Scooping my spoon into the bowl, I cautiously brought it to my mouth. Cheese oozed from inside and dripped from the sides with steam rising in an automatic smell. My heart beat rose for it was the first time I was tasting his cooking, and my God, was it delicious. Soft, creamy, spicy, crunchy even; a perfect combo of textures. For a moment, I forgot where I was, what I was doing. Until the clearing of someone's throat broke my daze. "You lost there, Haze?" Brooke asked, smirking like the wheels in her brain, was forming some
