I stepped out onto the balcony of my chambers and the night's cold air enveloped my body. I pulled the shawl around my shoulders tighter around my body.
I heard a clashing sound coming from Mrs. Cordelia’s chambers and a deep frown settled on my forehead because Mrs. Cordelia left two months ago to help Father on a mission. Leaving only me and Mother behind. And my brother is only to return home tomorrow evening.
I left my balcony and once I was back inside my chambers, I grabbed one of the candles that was lighting up my room. I heard another clashing sound in the chamber next to mine and my heart started thumping faster in my chest.
I carefully opened my bedroom door before I stepped into the dark hallway, I felt a cold sweat breaking out on my forehead, so I quickly brushed it away with the back of my hand. I walked down the hallway until I reached the door to Mrs. Cordelia’s chambers. Loud moaning and grunts were coming from inside the room, so I placed my shaky hand on the doorknob before I turned it, and then I stumbled inside the room.
A loud shrill escaped my mouth when I saw my brother and Miss Charles doing goddess knows what. He was standing behind her while strangling her. I ran out of the room and down the hallway until I reached Mother’s chamber.
“Mother, come quick! Brother is strangling Miss Charles in Mrs Cordelia’s chambers!” I yelled before I sat down on my mother’s bed.
“Mia, what are you doing up at this hour?” Mother asked me and I frowned at her words.
“Mother, Zion is killing Miss Charles. Get up!” I yelled at her, and Mother climbed out of her bed before she wrapped a white shawl around her arms. She left her room, and I followed suit. Once we reached Mrs. Cordelia’s chambers Mother angrily stormed into the room before she started hitting Zion on the back of his head.
I frowned when my eyes landed on Miss Charles, she was not wearing any clothes. How shameless can one be? Wait if Zion was trying to kill her, why would he require her to be naked?
“Mother stop hitting me! And give me a chance to explain.” Zion told our mother and she let her hands down to her sides.
“Explain Zion. Explain why this cheap tart is sitting naked in my house right now.” Mother told Zion and he pinched the bridge of his nose.
“I apologize ma’am.” Miss Charles said, and mother walked over to her, and she slapped Miss Charles so hard that the sound echoed throughout the house.
“Your father is to hear of this, I will send word to him in the morning. You are not deserving of my son or my family name. The alpha is already engaged to be married!” Mother yelled into Miss Charles’s face, and she started crying in her hands.
“This is not appropriate behavior for a beta’s daughter. You are a disgrace to this pack, Miss Charles. Now get your things and leave my house right this second.” Mother told Miss Charles and the girl that once seemed like a proper lady to me grabbed her dress before she scurried out of the room.
Zion glared at me, and I looked down at my feet because I knew that whatever was happening right now was because I told our mother.
“Zion, I am sending a letter to your father in the morning. You are to be punished for what you have done. And for what your sister had to witness. Shame on you Zion.” Mother said in a harsh tone before she grabbed a hold of my hand. “You are eight and ten years old and you had to witness such a heinous act. I apologize my beautiful girl.” Mother said and I frowned lightly.
What exactly happened between Zion and Miss Charles? Because I am still trying to figure out what it is that I witnessed because it was definitely not a murder.
Mother walked me into my room before she took my shawl from around my shoulders. She delicately placed it back inside my cupboard before she readied my bed for me. “Get some sleep, Mia.” Mother told me in a gentle tone, and I nodded before I climbed into my bed.
“Mother, what exactly have Zion and Miss Charles done?” I curiously asked my mother, and she gently ran her hand over my soft blonde hair.
“It is adult matters, Mia. But never you mind they are to be dealt with by your father and me.” Mother explained, and I frowned up at her.
“Please don’t let Father hurt, Zion,” I begged, and Mother nodded at me.
“Zion will be punished accordingly. Now go to sleep, sweetheart.” Mother said before she blew out all the candles in my room. She picked her candle up before leaving my chambers, and I frowned deeply. Whatever punishment Zion gets should also be mine because I got him into trouble with our parents.
After breakfast, I made my way to the living area where I found Mother crocheting a light purple scarf. I curtsied before her before I sat down on the comfortable chair across from her. “Good morning, Mother.” I greeted before I picked up the thick book that I was in the middle of reading. “Good morning, darling.” Mother greeted me while she briefly looked up from the crotchet work that she was doing. “By any chance have you seen your brother around these parts of the house?” Mother asked me. “I have not,” I said before I started reading where I last left off. “Your brother never seizes to surprise me.” Mother suddenly uttered in frustration, interrupting my reading and I looked up at her. “May I now know what exactly it is that Zion and Miss Charles were up to last night?” I asked mother and she looked at me in shock. “You will understand once you have your own mate.” Mother said and I frowned at her words. “But Zion is Lady Iris’s mate, not Miss Charles’s,” I told Mother in co
I stood on my balcony and the wind gently blew through my long blonde hair. The silk shawl that was covering my arms didn’t really warm me up but it’s better than wearing only my night dress outside. I looked up at the stars before I let out a soft sigh. I wonder what it is like to be in love, lady Iris always brags about the way my brother makes her feel, but I think that the description differs from the feeling. Emotions are difficult to define and the emotions that I have experienced were extremely powerful. So, I suppose a mate’s love must be the most powerful of them all. I spotted a bright light heading in the direction of our house and I gasped in realization. I immediately went back inside my bedroom I grabbed one of the candles in my bedroom before I made my way downstairs. The front door of our house opened and in it stood my father, his coachman, and Mrs Cordelia. They were held up in a conversation, so I placed my candle down on the tabletop before I ran over to my fath
I looked out of the carriage that Zion and I have been traveling in for the past four days. It was snowing outside, and snow is a common thing here in the North. Sunlight however is a true rarity in these parts of the world. I looked over at Zion, he had been silent for most of the ride which was starting to stress me out. “Have you received your punishment from father, yet?” I curiously asked Zion and he briefly glanced over at me. “I have not but I am sure I will receive it in due course,” Zion said, and I frowned lightly. “I am sorry for telling on you. Had I known this would have escalated so drastically I would simply have kept quiet.” I told Zion and he smiled at me. “You would have told Lady Iris for she is your friend,” Zion said, and I silently looked at him. “You did the right thing. And I must now own up to my mistakes.” He added under his breath. “Why did you do it?” I carefully asked my brother and his green eyes settled on my face. “You wouldn’t understand, love.” H
I have yet to decide what I am going to tell the prince at the alpha conference. And that is the difference between Alcander and me, He has already made his choice, I have not. He has met his mate and he found no interest in her, I have yet to meet my mate and I’m scared that I will not like him. And what if I do like him, what would that mean? Would it mean that I like two wolves at the same time? Could that even be possible? Alcander took me to his library, and he already had a reading room prepared for whenever I would go to visit him at the palace in the future. Which is one of the most thoughtful things anyone has done for me in a while. Then why does it still feel wrong? Perhaps I should never have gone to the palace, maybe then I would not be feeling as guilty and confused as I do now. And why was Zion the only person in my family who cared enough to ask me if I wanted to meet the prince or not? I mean Mother made it seem as if I would ruin the reputation of house Arcadius ha
I glanced over at Zion whose fur was a dark shade of brown and so was Father’s the only difference between them is that Father’s two front paws are white, and the very tip of Zion’s tail is white. My wolf on the other hand does not resemble either Mother or Father’s thick coats of fur. Mother’s wolf is black and the fur on her belly is white. My wolf on the other hand is covered in a light shade of grey fur, my roots are white which almost resembles the ends of my hair. Most wolves would just describe me as white but there is a clear difference between white and grey.I stepped in a puddle of mud, and I screamed inwardly which caused Father and Zion to laugh at me. I shook my paw, hoping to get the mud off but it was to no avail. I placed my paw down on the ground before I walked up to Father and Zion who were standing on the edge of a very familiar cliff which is known to us locals as ghost man’s Cliff. There lingers a ghost here at night, the ghost of a very angry werewolf, I have a
“Your father just mind-linked me, he claims that it is safe for us to go home. They will meet us in the living area.” Mother told me and I silently looked at her, not moving from my spot. “Be fearless.” Mother said and I followed her outside of the cellar, we walked back home with Mrs. Cordelia and Miss Laurel shortly on our heels. We entered our house before we made our way to the living area and Mother opened the door without knocking. Her eyes turned yellow when she saw the unfamiliar man sitting on a chair in our living area. Her claws came out in sharp lengths. “How dare you come onto my land, and threaten the life of my daughter?” Mother angrily asked the man. Egad, I have never seen her this cross at anyone before. Not even at Zion.“Mel, ‘tis okay. He is a friend.” Father calmly told Mother and she glared over at Father with golden eyes.“This is no friend of mine, you do not trespass on my territory, attempt to murder my children, and still call yourself a friend.” Mother roa
I twirled a strand of my golden hair around my index finger as I made my way downstairs. I greeted every servant I walked past, and they nodded back at me in a greeting manner with smiles on their faces. I am in a good mood today simply because I have a visitor, I stopped in front of the door that led to the living area and Mrs. Cordelia curtsied before me before she knocked on the door in front of us. I heard Mother speaking in a soft voice, knowing that it was I. “Enter.” Mother said and Mrs Cordelia opened the doors for me, I gently lifted my skirts so that I wouldn’t step on them. I curtsied before Mother before I made my way over to my chair. “Did you sleep well? Because you seemed unwell last night. You did not even come down for dinner.” Mother told me before she placed the book that she was holding down on the small wooden table beside her. “I slept incredibly. How stands the hour, Mother?” I asked before smiling at her. “Tis nine a clock dear.” Mother responded before she
I looked down at the beautiful yellow gown I was wearing it had beautiful gold patterns on it, the only problem was that the corset beneath it seems to be far too tight and I have no time to fix it, we are to make our appearance any second now. ‘Tis the full moon of the Alpha conference. Mother reassuringly squeezed my hand, and I sucked in a nervous breath. My nerves got the best of me earlier, and I threw up which I would never admit to anyone but that is how on edge I have been since morning. I am meeting my mate for the first time and I will see Alcander. Besides that, I am afraid that my anxieties will stop me from having a good time. I’m sure Eros will have questions, addressing the rumors that had been circling the world for the past month about the prince proposing marriage to me. And about the fact that I went to house Gartreides to meet the prince in the first place. Zion walked over to my side, and I briefly looked over at him before I placed my gaze back on the guests do
