27. The Promise

This morning I woke up with a fever, but goddess knows where this sudden fever has come from. I sighed lightly as I stepped out of my bathtub.

“I cannot seem to figure out what is wrong with me, Miss Laurel. I know everything, and I have read every book so how come I have no idea what is happening to me?” I asked Miss Laurel who was fanning my warm body.

“My lady, have you ever considered the possibility that this might be your heat? You haven’t gotten it yet, my lady.” Miss Laurel respectfully said, and my eyes widened at her words.

“Miss Laurel do not speak of such nonsense. My heat- my heat, it cannot be my heat. I am certain of it. Egad, if Eros was to get word of this. Absolutely not! It must be something else.” I told Miss Laurel and she frowned at me.

“My lady, it is dangerous for a she-wolf to ignore her heat. You must be with your mate because only he can make it better. If not, you might die, my lady.” Miss Laurel said while she looked down at her hands and I frowned at her.
