Chapter 29 - Attacked

I watch the other demons bow down to Thail from my place around the fire. The weather is freezing, so I won't join the others as they worship their new leader.

Instead, I'm half-glaring as each of these weird men, with tails, wings, claws, heck, some even have four arms, but that's not the point! They are all bowing down to Thail, and my mate couldn't look happier.

I frown at that, thinking about what Kuha said before he died. He had claimed Thail only wanted me because he wanted to get more powerful, but I think he was lying. Thail couldn't do that. He is too sweet and in love with me, and—

But he is a demon.

My chest constricts, and I look up when the man in person walks up to me, grinning like it's Christmas evening. He sits down on the furs, unbothered by the cold.

"It's all over," he says, keeping the grin. "Kuha is defeated. My men are no longer prisoners, and I'm now the chief of a very big clan. If my father were alive, he would be... proud. Very proud."
