Chapter 1

(MELANIE MARTINEZ POV):

I watched with great interest as she moved her body like a delicate flower. The way she swayed with ease and passion amazed me immensely. I couldn't believe it myself. This was what I wanted for myself when I get older. I literally daydreamed of the day hundreds of men would watch me in action as I portray my talent on that stage. But little did I know that my twin sister already had my life planned out for me.

Hello, my name is Melanie Martinez and this is my story. The story of my unfortunate life and how I got to meet a powerful demon king, Denver Hale.

You see, what you read earlier was something that used to happen when I was just a little child.

My mother was that graceful woman on stage. She wasn't a ballerina and nor was she some other sort of dancer.

Well, she was actually a dancer but not just any kind. My mother was a pole dancer that I adored so much as a kid.

To me, it was all about the beauty of it. I was just an innocent child at mind and heart and didn't see what the actual aim of her dance was as of then.

What kind of mother would take her kids to the club like this and do what she was doing right before their eyes?

Well, I didn't mention my dad at the beginning did I?

He was a victim of a car crash on his way to the hospital where my mother was giving birth to I and my twin sister. The doctor didn't tell her that till after she was done bringing us into the world.

Mom revealed this truth to us only when we were sixteen. She had originally planned to tell us when we reach eighteen but because we kept pushing to know she just let it out.

During those days when we were too young to be left at home, my mother always took us to the club she worked as a pole dancer, sat us down in a room meant for her to change and told us not to come out of the room.

Of course she didn't intentionally let us see her but I was the stubborn one of course and would always peep through a small opening on the door.

My sister, on the other hand, had no interest in our mother's work as I did and had stopped watching the very first day she had seen what mom does for a living.

She just stayed put on the floor and waited till our mom was done. She would sometimes fall asleep when mom took till night to finish.

Mind you, my sister, Delanie, isn't normally like this. My sister is actually a very manipulative kind of person. She's much more of a liar, exploiter, and a big thief.

It's almost like it's in her genes really so I wasn't surprised she would be the one to give me such a miserable life and turn me into a prostitute for her own benefits.

Let me not rush into things just yet and start it up from the top...

My mom had a magic hand in making lemonade and now that we were adults, nineteen years old to be precise, mom made me and Delanie help her out in selling while she went pole dancing.

We were just right outside our most visited selling point outside a school when a high school boy walked up to our stand.

"A glass of lemonade please ma'am." The boy said.

I poured out a glass for him and gave it to him.

The boy stretched forth his hand towards me with the money but Delanie snatched it from his hand.

"Delanie? Why did you do that?" I asked her, shocked at the way she yanked the money out of the young boy's hand.

"Shut up witch. Delanie does whatever she wants whenever she wants." Delanie replied to me.

"My change ma'am." The boy said.

"What change? You better run off with the lemonade while you still can or else I'll drink it too." Delanie threatened and stepped for then the boy ran off.

"Why the hell do you keep doing that to people?" I asked Delanie.

"Only the tough survive. This is earth and not some sort of heaven where you think good deeds would take you places." Delanie answered.

"One day this behaviour of yours would turn things sour for you." I said to her.

"Watch your mouth. You're only spared because you are my sister and mainly because of mom." Delanie told me but I ignored her.

People around, especially in this area we are now, always knew Delanie to be an awful person and had always tried to buy from me I'm her absence or just try not to look her way.

Most people ensure to come with the exact amount of money so as not to have their entire money seized by Delanie who would outrun the police anytime she is reported.

Actually, the police would still follow me home just to meet Delanie but not even mom knows where she spends the night in such cases.

It actually got to a point that the police gave up totally on her and told anyone who came with a report against her that it was a normal thing.

I'm so fed up of my sister. I don't even know who she got it from.

That day, after we sold the last batch of lemonade, I and my sister reached home only to hear loud shouts from right outside our house.

"Ugh! What is it this time?! Can't I come back home to a quiet house for once? It's been very stressful." Delanie complained.

"Stressful? You hardly did anything." I said to her.

"Yeah, but I went outsude with you. That is still stressful." Delanie replied.

I just shook my head and opened the door and to my surprise, it was our late dad's brother, uncle Gavin
