Chapter 3

Delanie also got off bed and stood up to stretch.

"I have to take a bath first before going anywhere." Delanie said.

"This is serious Delanie. No time for baths. Take this." Mom said, shoving Delanie's luggage into her hands and mine into my own hands.

She rushed out of our room and we followed her from behind as quickly as we could.

"Mom

"Could you please explain what is going on?" I asked her.

"Not now sweetie." Mom said and opened the front door but only to bump into uncle Gavin.

Mom almost fell on her butt but I wedged her from behind just in time.

"I never thought you would so much be in a hurry to follow orders." Uncle Gavin said to mom.

"Stay out of my way you freak." Mom replied uncle Gavin.

"Freak? Oh dear sister in-law. Is that any way to speak to your late husband's brother? Oh, I forgot. He's dead so of course it's an opportunity for your true colours to come out." Uncle Gavin stated, causing my to gibe him a slap across the cheek.

Uncle Gavin was about to speak up but drew his attention to the luggages we were holding.

"Since when did you have that much clothes?" Uncle Gavin asked.

That was the moment I actually noticed the size of the luggage mom took out for herself. She had many clothes but not that much.

"Empty the luggages." Uncle Gavin ordered.

"You can't tell me what to do." Mom opposed.

"Think again woman." Uncle Gavin said and snapped his fingers.

Two men in black suits appeared from behind uncle Gavin and walked into the house, causing me, Delanie and mom to walk backwards.

"Empty her bags." Uncle Gavin ordered the two men.

One of the men yanked the bag off mom's hands. While she was still struggling to get it back from him, the second man grabbed of mom.

"Hey! Let go of our mom!" I shouted but what could I do against such huge men? I was about to think of a way to help but before I got to do so, a sound distracted me.

The first man had emptied mom's bag and found gold in it. Just one block of gold.

My eyes widened in surprise. Where did mom get such a huge...

"So now you want to steal from your late husband's family?" Uncle Gavin said.

"At least now I know where I got my bad habit from." Delanie said.

"Throw them all out." Uncle told one of the men after he walked fully into the house.

"And you." he said to the second man.

"Get that gold wrapped and put it in my car." Uncle ordered.

"Yes sir." The man replied.

Mom, Delanie, and I were pushed out of the house and our bags were thrown at us.

We picked up ours while mom gathered hers. I bent down to help her.

"Thank you." She said to me.

"Mom? Why did you steal?" I asked her.

"We needed a shelter Melanie. That gold would have gotten us enough to buy a house and other things but I wad caught." Mom answered.

"Oh look, I got her greedy genes too." Delanie said.

"Why don't you just shut up Delanie? At least mom had a good reason but you just do stupid things for stupid reasons." I said to Delanie.

"Survival of the fittest sis." Delanie said to me.

"So where are we going?" Delanie asked, after I was done helping mom.

Mom carried her bag and answered Delanie.

"To the bar." Mom said.

"To that same rotten bar you work in? No way. I hate that place." Delanie complained.

"It's not like we have any other choice." I said to Delanie.

"Oh, we do. Actually, scratch that. The right thing for me to say is, I do. I have a choice. See you two later or never." Delanie said, walking away from us and waving her hand in the air without looking back.

"Where are you going Delanie?" Mom asked her.

"Far away from poverty. I'm going to stay with my friends. The same usual place I go. Don't bother looking for me." Delanie answered and continued to move till she was out of site.

I could see the sadness and disappointment in mom's eyes but I chose to stay quiet.

"You people are still here? Vacate this place immediately." Uncle Gavin said to us after stepping out of the house.

I and my mother started walking to her work place. It took us some time but we finally reached there feeling very tired from the long walk.

The bar was only just opening and we walked in to meet mom's boss.

There was a small office deeper inside the bar. I and my mom went in and luckily for us the boss was around.

"Good day Mr Levinson." My mom greeted.

"Good day Barbra. What brings you here so early in the morning?" Mr Levinson asked mom.

"I'm really in a deep problem sir and I was wondering if you could help both I and my daughter." Mom said.

Mr Levinson took a look at me from top to bottom even if he was still sitting.

"Good day sir." I greeted.

"Good day. How are you this fine morning?" Mr Levinson asked me.

"Good." I answered.

"What seems to be the problem?" He asked my mom, turning his attention to her.

"Sir, you see, we were kicked out of the place which we lived. Now we have no home and I was wondering...

" Hold it right there."Mr Levinson spoke up, interrupting mom.

"I hope you are not implying that I give you a place to stay. I have a wife and kids and can not do that." Mr Levinson added.

"Oh no, that's not it sir. I would never intrude in your personal live." Mom said to him.

"Then what do you want?" Mr Levinson asked mom.

"To live here in the bar." Mom answered.

"Are you out of your wits woman? How do you expect me to let you live in a bar? My bar?" Mr Levinson questioned.
