Dayla

The deserts looked like they spread for thousands of miles, without signs of life of any form. Only vultures were flying high in the sky in other to do food. There were no trees or peace anywhere in the heated place; it felt like being in an oven, except 100 degrees worse. Below the ground was cracked as if it would open up and consume us Alive. Undoubtedly, this place was hell, though there was no turning back and sooner than later our enemies would strike again destroying the few surviving citizens of Iran. There was an interstates war between Iran and the United States. Things had gotten worse over the moment as the confrontation seemed to have turned into a death Apocalypse.

"Lily!"

"Am coming mum" Lily yelled back trying to pack up a few things for the journey ahead.

"Hurry up!" her mum yelled louder.

"Let's go lily that's enough!" Her twin sister dragged her out of the house. Lily struggled with her twin sister.

"I forgot....!" she stammered.

"you forgot what?!" her sister interrupted her.

"Him"

Her twin sister took a long stare at her.

"He'll be fine trust me"

"No, he won't!" Lily yelled and freed herself from her sister's grip.

She ran all the way but met a house that caught on fire. She screamed as she went into the house to look for her friend. She yelled his name louder but got no reply. Just as she was about to move deeper into the flames a hand caught her.

"Lily!" her twin yelled pulling her out of the building. The house began to fall apart as blocks and pieces began to fall.

"Run stop holding back!" her sister yelled. Fortunately, they left the house without any serious damages but lily walked closer to the burning house and began to sob.

"Di...."

"Lily!" her sister yelled pushing her aside from where she stood and in turn, for that she paid the price that lily ought to pay. Lily glanced at her sister that lay almost half dead. She smiled at lily as lily rushed towards her weeping sorrowfully.

"I love you" her sister muttered and gave up the ghost.

Their parents espied the twins but when they got closer what they saw made their skin shiver and their heartache with pain.

Lily's father sighted the flames that were beginning to spread towards them.

"Let us go...she's gone," he said in a cold tone.

"Let us go!" Her dad yelled louder standing lily to her feet.

"This place is no safer, am sure everyone must have escaped and so should we...this war isn't a funny one as you see" her father explained. Lily gathered the last strength in her body and followed her parents.

A young boy ran out from the fields that were almost in flames and began searching through as if he was looking for someone.

He sighted a body lying lifeless on the ground and ran towards it.

"Dayla!!" he screamed. A loud bang was heard from behind. He carried the girl's body and ran away.

"I killed her" lily muttered to herself.

Her mom watched her daughter lament over and over, when she couldn't take it anymore she went over to her and hugged her tightly

"It is not your fault"

"It...."

"It is not" her mom interrupted her.

Lily kept quiet while thinking of her new life. They boarded a helicopter to another country.

Lily felt this strong wash of emotion as she stepped into her new home. She was now the only child and daughter of her parents, she walked up to her room which was larger than her previous room.

A certain memory flashed in her head of when she and her twin sister were running around their room. She immediately broke down into tears.

"Am so sorry...." she cried.

"Sorry won't bring her back. So the better you get over her death the better for you" a voice rang from behind. She knew quite well that it was her father's voice. Before she could turn to face him, he had stomped out of the room. She couldn't discern if he was angry or not but in either way she deserved it, she laid down the life of her twin sister for someone endeared to her heart. And yet she didn't even get to see him, she wiped the tear that fell off her eyes strolling down her cheeks, and began to arrange her things.

.....

As weeks went by Lily found it hard to adjust especially the fact of being alone. Her parents always found her sister alone just talking to herself and had no other choice but to slide a drug into her food that caused her to lose her memories. They thought that this was the best choice they had to make for their daughter If not they knew they would soon be childless. Mr. Wen, Lily's dad suggested that they should register her in a school which they hastily did. And to their excitement she made friends on her first day.
