"I'm David Lewis, the creative director and VP of JD Legacy International."
OMG! He's one of the founders of JDLI! I can't believe that I will meet him this early, not to mention he will be interviewing me.
The interview finally begin. He asked me the usual questions in an interview which I answered with confidence.
"As I have been browsing your CVs, I have learned that your experience is more on marketing and sales. Though, I also saw your portfolio with your interior design projects. You have a stable position in your previous company, I'm curious as to why you decided to go here and apply for this position." He said in a formal but calming tone.
I heaved a heavy sigh before I start to answer me. I can't mess this up. This is what I've been waiting for my whole life.
"As stated in my educational background, I have a degree in interior design. But my parents wanted me to work in our company." I said as I started my speech.
"Oh! Now that explains why you have the same name and the company." He butted in.
Zobel group of companies, my father's family business is widely known in the Philippines. ZGC owns the biggest and most high-end malls and real estate in the Philippines.
Luckily, I have two older brothers who will inherit the business. They allow me to pursue my dreams but I need to work first in our company. As per them, the company should be the first to benefit from the skills that I have.
I nodded at him and smile softly. "My love and passion are always on arts and designs. I'm blessed to have two older brothers who will inherit our family business, the reason why my parents never pressure me on whether I want to handle our business or not. Also, my family has always been supportive of my career. But they want me to work first in our company because as per them, it's only fair for our company to be the first one to benefit from the skills and knowledge that I have."
"I totally understand. But why did you decide to apply here? You can pursue your dream in the Philippines, especially with the influence that your family had. It's no brainer that you will be accepted by the top companies in the Philippines." He curiously asked.
"As you had said, my family has great INFLUENCE in the Philippines. That's one of the main reasons why I wanted to fly here to New York and pursue my dream." I said in a formal and respectful tone.
He leaned closer and asked. "You said that is one of the main reasons, may I ask for the other reasons?"
Don't be too close to me please, I might forget to answer because your handsome face is distracting me.
Yelle don't get distracted by this guy's handsome face. Passing this interview is your priority. You can enjoy more of his face when you passed this interview. I said to motivate myself.
"I don't know if you notice that all the furniture that I place was all JDLI's furniture."
He browses my portfolio again to confirm. His eyes widen after confirming what I just said. He looked at me again and smile.
Girls will melt when seeing him smile like that. I continue my speech before I get distracted by him.
"I'm a great fan of your furniture. I was browsing some furniture for my condo when I saw your old website, J Furniture. I instantly fell in love with the design and purchase it right away. Since then, J Furniture or JD Legacy International became my only choice of furniture in all my projects. Also, I fell in love more with JDLI when I read an article about how you guys started the company and made it this big."
"You both came from a wealthy company but you decided to make a name of your own and build your empire or legacy. I also want to be like you someday." I said with great enthusiasm.
"That was touching. We never knew that James and I had that impact on you." He said.
I almost rolled my eyes upon hearing the name James. I almost forgot that the J in JD stands for James.
"Too bad that James wasn't here. He was the owner of J Furniture before we decided to create JDLI. He was the one who designed and created the furniture that you fell in love with. He now handling our business in Asia. But he will be here in a month or two. You'll meet him by that time then." He said.
My eyes widen. "Does this mean that I got the job?" I asked to confirm.
He smiled and nodded. "Welcome to JDLI, Ms. Yelle!"
He went to me and offer his which I gladly accept.
"Congratulations sweetie! I know you will get the job!" It was my mom on a video call.
I facetime them to tell them the good news as soon as I went home.
"Thanks, Mom."
"I wish we were there to celebrate with you." My mom said.
My heart melted from hearing those sincere words from my mom. I'm blessed to have a supportive family. They never questioned me when I decided to take an Interior Design course. They never pressure me to follow their path.
"It's okay Mom. Your support was more than enough." I told them sincerely.
"But it's not good enough for me." It was my dad.
My brow creased and just waited for him to continue his speech.
"You still have the black card with you right?"
I nodded. I never had any plan on returning it because I went here for my career and not to live an independent life. I mean why would I refuse the privileged life that I have now?
"Good. Now go out and shop till your heart's content." Dad said proudly.
My eyes widen. "No limit?"
"No limit."
I screamed in excitement! "Didn't I tell you that I got the best parents in the world?"
"I know sweetie. We love you!"
"I love you too Mom and Dad! You're the best as always."
And since I'm an obedient daughter, I went to my favorite designer brands to buy some outfits for work good for a month. I'm not a fan of repeating outfits. Most of my clothes were only worn once or twice.
When I was in the Philippines, Mara convince me to create an I*******m account to sell my old clothes. I followed her because she always nags me about my shopping habits.
Speaking of Mara, I wanted to call them last night to share to her the good news but I'm sure that they were already asleep at that time.
Mara and her husband go to work at 9 am, so I decided to call them at 7:30 am, Philippine time. I'm sure they are about to have their breakfast now.
"I knew it! Congrats Yelle! I'm so proud of you." Mara said as I share to them the good news.
"Congrats Ninang!" Tanya, my lovely goddaughter said while giggling.
Andrew also congratulates me. I smiled at him and continue to share with them how happy I am and what my parents gave me as a congratulatory gift for getting the job.
"Are also planning to continue your business there in the US?" Mara suddenly asked.
I was confused by what she just said. "What do you mean business?"
"Your page on I*******m where you sell your old clothes."
I rolled my eyes. "What? Of course not! I will be busy with my job here. That will consume a lot of my time. It's not like in the Philippines where I can designate the job to my assistant. I don't have an assistant here anymore."
My assistant was a bit sad when she heard the news that I will be moving here to the US. She was getting a 30% incentive from all the sold clothes.
"What will you do with your clothes there?" Mara asked.
I'm starting to get annoyed because she just kill the moment.
"I don't know yet. Maybe keeping them in my walk-in closet?" I said then rolled my eyes.
Mara was about to say something when Tanya called someone I don't want to see.
"Uncle James, come here and congratulate ninang. She got the job!"
"Uncle James, come here and congratulate ninang. She got the job!" This is one of the reasons why I love my niece. She always has the right timing. I intend to visit them for this purpose. I knew that Yelle will call them at this hour to share the news. Last night, I got a call from Bradley, my assistant in the main office. He informed me that Yelle passed the interview and it was David who did the interview. Up until now, I still can't believe that Yelle has this kind of adoration in my company to the point that she was willing to move to New York just to work there. I already notice that she was using my company's furniture when she did a project with Andrew. But I never imagine the reason behind her patronage of my furniture. JD Legacy International is my company. I was only planning on doing a furniture business but David's situation with his family gave me the idea to offer Interior Design services which automatically a sales in my furniture business. I wanted to see the ex
Today is my first day of work. I look in the mirror to have a final look at my outfit. I'm wearing white trousers, a cream long-sleeve, with my stilettos. I nodded at the mirror, satisfied with my looks, then I grab my Hermes bag and I'm good to go. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. It was my first time working in a company that is not owned by my parents. I know that the treatment will be different compared to when I was working in my company. In Zobel Group of companies. the employees were friendly and lenient towards me. Somehow you can feel that they want to get your favor though, not all employees are like that. But some are genuine in giving their service. Jenny, one of the HR started to tour and introduce me to all departments. Before we went to the creative department, Jenny took me to David's office. The first thing that got my attention was his office, it looks sleek and neat. Then I look at the very handsome man sitting on his office chair. Gosh! My boss is so h
"Are you okay?"I fake a smile. My heart started to beat fast. I look at my phone and read his message again.'Does that guy know you're married?'I look at it again and focus on the last word. Married. I was hoping that it was his typical annoying jokes. I am confident that he was able to cancel or stop the mayor from filing our marriage contract. Yes, I knew that the document we signed is real.I also knew how much we hate each other. I am sure that for James, I am the last person he will marry or I wouldn't be able to make it on his list. When I left for the US, I keep consoling myself that James will never allow our marriage to be legal. My hand was trembling while typing my reply.'What marriage are you talking about? I'm single!!!' I typed. My hands are still trembling while waiting for his reply."Hey, Yelle! Are you okay? You look pale." Edward asked me again.I look at them and saw their worried faces. I fake a smile again. "I'm good," I said.I received another notification
"You look happy." I smiled widely at Hannah and showed her the folder containing my first project. "Finally got my very first project!" I said with pure excitement.Hannah's eyes widen with excitement. "I'm happy for you girl! If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask me, I've very willing to help."I nodded and went to my chair. "Thank you! But do you know that our CEO is back?"Hannah moves her chair closer to me wearing a big smile on her face. "I know! He's already in his office. I can't wait to his handsome face."I suddenly got curious. I don't remember the face of our CEO. I saw his article once when I was in college. I know that he's handsome, I remember that I instantly put him on my crush list, but I have too many crushes and I don't remember the face of some of them. "Do you have his photo?" I asked Hannah. She nodded. "Of course, I have but it's better to see him in person. I have to warn you though, don't show your admiration when Ms. Hailey is around." I furrowed. "
"Why would I?"Hannah pinches me. I furrowed and turn to her then to the people around us. They were all stunned. David chuckled while Hailey is giving me a death glare.Shoot, did I say that out loud?! You and your big mouth, Yelle! Did I just talk back with my boss right? Shocks, am I getting fired?!I look carefully at James to check his reaction. But to my surprise, he just smirked at me. He then went closer to me. "May I remind you that I'm your boss now?" He said naughtily. I bit my lower lips and wanted to slap myself. This is so embarrassing, now people will be curious about me and James. I saw in my peripheral vision that Hailey's not liking everything that is happening. My brow crease. Wait, speaking of Hailey, I thought they are in a relationship or something. Why isn't she doing anything to make James from making fun of me? Killing me with her stares will not make James stop his scheme. I look at him and just nodded. Talking back will not do me any good. I might los
"I am not! I'm just worried because I know how much she loves you. And I kind of see myself in her." I don't understand why James can't love Hailey back. Except for her rage a while ago, Hailey is a good and competent person. I'm sure every man will like her. "Don't worry about Hailey. Soon she'll realize that the love that she felt for me is pure platonic." James said with full confidence.I look at him intently. How can he be sure that Hailey's feelings for him are not romantic? James smiles warmly at me. It was the first time he smile like that to me. He grabs my hand and squeezes it lightly. "As I said, Hailey is like a sister to me. I will never do anything to hurt her. You too will soon realize that what Hailey felt for me isn't romantic. There are different kinds of love, and it's not always romantic." I nodded. His words are so sincere, and I can't find myself disagreeing with him. "Why did you call me here in your office? You told me it's for business." I said to break t
"So you work in JDLI as an Interior Designer, and you finally got your first project today after a month of assisting your colleagues, and yet here you are drinking, I bet you feel a bit pressured and anxious since it's your first project." It was Kyle, the guy who went to me and introduce himself a while ago. I was surprised at how smoothly our conversation is going. I thought that his agenda was to hit on me like inviting me to a hotel for a one-night stand just like the common thing that guys in the bar do. But he was respectful and friendly. It feels like he was not here to flirt but to get to know me. "You can say that, but also I got some personal problems that I can't share with you for now," I said. I told Kyle the reason why I decided to move here and where my current job is. I didn't tell him about my problem with James and the chaos that he brought into the office which is the main reason why I'm here. I know that sometimes it's better to share your problem with a stran
"Is that so? Then let's call the love of your life." James pulled out his phone, his brow creased as he was searching for his brother's name. He was angry, I can sense it. But I can't understand why. He knew from the start the feelings I have for his brother. He knew that aside from pursuing my dream, I went here to move on. "Are you serious?! You will really call Andrew?! For what?!" I said panicking. He ignored me. His attention is on his phone. After three rings the video was on. I saw Andrew's face on the screen. "What's up?" Andrew greeted him. "I'm with Yelle. Are you having lunch?" He said casually. I froze on my sit. I don't know what to do. Will I greet him back or what? "Yes, I'm having lunch with my wife," Andrew said then I saw him looking at his wife full of love. My heart hurts, as always. But I was used to it. Moving on is not easy. I thought that once you accept the fact that you are not meant for each other, moving on will come out naturally. There are times
