I wanted to marry you and make you my queen but you threw it all away when you ran from me. Now, I'll keep you as my mistress- Nathaniel Serrano
View MoreThe four-year-old girl, humming to herself, skipped down the hallway when she heard a weeping noise. She stopped, tilted her head, and listened carefully. The noise was coming from around the corner. Without thinking, she tip-toed towards the noise. As she rounded the corner, she halted in surprise. Leaning against the balcony, stood a little boy. His tiny body shook with each quiet sob. He was bigger than her. The girl blinked, her round blue eyes growing wide in concern.
She hurried towards him.
“Hey,” she said softly. The boy’s sob got caught in his throat and he looked up. His silver eyes locked on her.
“Why are you crying?” the girl asked. The boy eyed her in suspicion, meanwhile, her gaze wandered over to his injured finger.
“Oui, you are hurty,” she exclaimed in concern. The boy glanced down at his finger, a thin trail of blood had started to trickle from the small cut. He winced as if the vision had enhanced the pain.
“You should see Mrs. Lily. She’ll take care of it,” she suggested softly. The boy scowled at the name.
“No. Her breath smells like a dumpster,” he shuddered.
“We shouldn’t say that,” she pouted in disapproval even though he was right.
“You will lose all your blood and die,” she worried.
Quick and instinctive, she reached out and grabbed his hand. Without a moment of hesitation, she brought his bleeding finger to her mouth, gently sucking on it. Her mom used to do this to her father every time he got a cut.
“What are you doing?” the boy frowned in disapproval but didn’t pull away. She drew away a moment later, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand as if she were some vampire who just had her meal.
He glanced down and his eyes popped out in surprise. He wasn’t bleeding or hurting any longer.
“Are you an angel?” he asked to confirm his doubt. He also had never seen her in the school before and she indeed looked like an angel. Big round blue eyes, chubby cheeks, pouty lips- she looked like an angel his mom would tell them about at night.
The girl doubled over with laughter, covering her mouth with her tiny hands. Without realizing it, he cracked a smile too.
As her laughter slowly died down, she spoke, “I am not an angel, silly. I have no wings. I can’t fly.”
The boy stepped forward.
“You don’t need wings to fly,” he said, making her frown in confusion.
“How?” she asked, both curious and confused.
He bent low and lifted her by her waist.
“You only need my hands to fly,” he answered, spinning her slowly. She opened her arms and mimicked flying. Their mingled laughter resonated in the quiet corridor.
He put her down sometimes later.
The girl let out a giggle and said in disbelief, “I am an angel.”
“No, angel is my sister. You are my princess,” he innocently staked his claim over her. The girl giggled.
“I had a fight with a boy,” he revealed in a murmur after she sobered.
“Mom says it’s not good to fight,” she preached.
“He said bad things about my sister,” the boy disclosed, clenching his tiny fists as if he was still mad. The girl’s thoughtful nod resembled an adult’s.
“Whatever he said doesn’t make your sister bad. It makes him bad,” she claimed. The boy was awestruck by her.
“Friends? I am Nathaniel Serrano” the boy prompted hopefully, extending his small hand towards her. The girl smiled hard before drawing out her own. Their hands were about to meet when something crept into the girl’s line of sight. Her gaze drifted only to grow wide in horror. A little boy with a bashed head was crawling out of the classroom.
“Who is he?” the girl asked, deadly scared. Nathaniel followed her gaze and felt annoyed at being interrupted.
“He is the one who mocked my sister,” he answered nonchalantly. He looked back at her and added with a grin, “I broke his head. He hurt me, I hurt him.” His smile dropped as she recoiled a step. The warmth in her eyes vanished, now taken over by tears of fear.
"You are mad," she quickly spun on her heels and ran away.
Nathaniel followed after her, his eyes misting over with tears, “Princess, stop. Don’t run away from me,” he pleaded as tears of anguish trailed down his cheeks.
She quickly disappeared behind the corner, leaving him alone and crying again.
He gazed wistfully at the spot where she stood a few moments ago. Rage filled him before he turned around and traced his angry strides back to the hurt boy.
“Because of you she ran away,” he barked and slapped him hard. The boy sobbed in pain as he kicked him and stormed off.
………
“He is only six and he is going around hurting other kids,” Ara was beyond distressed. Killian ran a hand down his face, sighing. He wouldn’t lie he loved his boy but he had become a pain in his ass lately.
“I’ll talk to him,” Killian assured her. Ara shook her head, tears filled her eyes.
“I don’t want my kids to become evil,” she shared her innermost fear with him. She might have accepted his world but she wouldn’t be able to see her kids losing their conscience, losing their core in the abyss of his dark world. One doesn’t have to be evil to rule the underworld.
“He will not,” he lightly squeezed her shoulder. Ara glanced up to meet his eyes.
“Who made the complaint?” she asked.
“A girl from his school,” he told her.
Nathaniel who was overhearing everything from the door, felt his heart breaking again.
She not only rejected his friendship but also snitched on him. She was a betrayer.

Sera had just entered the bathroom when the door opened again, revealing a man. She froze for a second before steadying herself and saying, “This is the ladies’ washroom.”"I know," the man said and stepped in. Sera frowned as he closed the door behind him. Alarm rang off in her head as she backed away a step."You shouldn't be inside," she told him, voice held a tinge of warning. "You're very pretty. Would you go on a date with me? I think I like you," the man proposed, moving closer, completely ignoring her discomfort. The awkward tilt of his posture hinted that something wasn’t quite right in his head. She had met him only a few minutes ago and even then she couldn't help but question his mental health. "Get out," she told him. "You're the first person who ever talked nice to me. I own a gre..." His words broke off as blood sputtered from his mouth, his head snapping violently to the side. Sera seize up, frozen in shock. Her wide yes drifted to Nate, who had once again worn that
Nate’s gaze swept over the crowd. Most were Mr. and Mrs. Alvarez’s acquaintances, with a few of his business partners scattered among them. His staff had joined as well, blending into the gathering in their finest attire. His eyes accidentally met those of one of the cleaning staff. The man stiffened, as if waiting for him to scold him for joining, but Nate just looked away. He could tell they were Sera's guests. His gaze finally found her. She stood quietly near a bush, almost hiding with Dyson. A smile shimmered on her glossy lips as she watched people enjoying their time. His angel was nervous. Nate grabbed a glass of juice and walked towards her. As he neared, her eyes gravitated towards him. He offered her the juice. She took the glass with a quiet thank you. Nate came to stand beside her, their silence shared as they watched the guests together. She cast him a sidelong look, wondering why he was aloof. He surely knew half the people here, so why was he lingering by her side i
She watched as they fastened string lights overhead, giving an impression as if the sky was decked with jewels. The garden had long been swept clean, ready for the wave of decorations to follow. The staff had already wheeled out the barbecue grill sets, their gleaming surfaces looking almost too pristine to ever be used. She was told no party had ever taken place here, as Nate wasn't fond of them. It was the first time the estate was hosting a celebration, and even the staff were bursting with excitement. They were working enthusiastically to make it a memorable day for everyone. Even Sera was enjoying her work. To her surprise, it wasn’t as hard as she had imagined.“You really didn’t have to go to all this trouble," Freya’s voice came from behind, startling Sera. She spun around to find her standing there, smiling.Sera returned the smile as she stepped closer. “It isn’t me, it is Nate.”Freya frowned lightly. “That’s strange. Nate told me it was you.” "Well, it's his money and hi
Sera handed Freya a cup of herbal tea before accompanying her on a quiet night walk. Gentle gusts of breeze, carrying the dewy scent of tuberose, drifted along the pavement as they headed toward the Moonlake garden."....I would sneak out of the orphanage at night, and Ara would have to cover for me...she has always been a sweetheart and I a troublemaker," Freya shared with a nostalgic smile on her face. How fast the time had flown. It felt just like yesterday, they were messing around in their orphanage. "Sounds like a perfect team to me," Sera replied, enjoying her childhood stories. "We are," Freya said softly. "I protected her from bullies, and she protected me from myself." A quiet ache stirred in Sera’s chest, a longing for a friendship like theirs bloomed in her heart. She had Hannah, but the girl was so much younger, and there were countless things she couldn’t confide in her. "She is very kind and loving," Sera agreed wholeheartedly. Honestly, she had received more warmth
He wasn't hardwired for this. Fuck! Staying away from her was torture. The most excruciating kind. From his helpless heart to his primal instincts—every fiber of him begged to close the distance. He felt like a starving beast pacing in chains. Chains he had put on himself. He held back, even though it burned him not to be able to love her, to keep her in his arms through the cold night. He tore his gaze away from her as she fussed over the kittens in the garden, oblivious to his presence, and walked towards his car. The fact that she appeared happier and brighter without him pressed against his chest like a thorn. Angela had been right. While he made his life all about her, she didn't even care if he existed or not. The thought hurt him more than any bullet, but he couldn't blame her for that. In truth, he was almost certain that his death would mean little to her… far less than the agony he felt simply from not seeing her for too long."You seem to be under a lot of stress,' Dave
"Mom and Dad would be so proud to see you, Dyson. You're doing so well," Sera encouraged her brother with tears in her eyes as he tried to reach for the spoon she held in her hand. He had begun to move, even if only a little, but the very fact that he was trying filled her with hope that he would soon recover completely. Patrick had put his heart and soul into treating him. If not for him, it might have taken Dyson longer to respond to the treatment. She couldn't help but feel guilty. He was an amiable person with a kind heart, but Nate's brutal attack on him had left her shame-faced. A week had passed, but she couldn't even gather the courage to call him and ask after his health. He must be hating on her. She was snapped out of her thought as Dyson gripped the spoon. Sera smiled. "Very good," she praised, happy. In response, his lips quirked in a half-smile. He could hear her and was trying to respond. He hadn't begun talking yet, just some incoherent mumbles, but the doctor had as
