Chapter 2

Author: You to You
My hands trembled violently as I accepted the belongings. As if by sheer coincidence, Kenneth's phone began vibrating frantically.

One reminder after another popped up on the screen.

"1. Withdraw 100 grand from the bank and burn it for Roxana."

"2. I've taken a wife to care for my elderly parents. Now, I willingly give up my life to reunite with Roxana in God's embrace."

"Wait for me, Roxie."

The moment I read those words, it felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over my head. My entire body trembled violently.

A hundred thousand dollars... For years, he'd been using my hard-earned money to burn offerings for her.

Meanwhile, I'd worked myself to the bone day after day to earn that money. I'd even miscarried because I'd overworked myself when I was younger.

The doctor had told me I would never be able to have another child. Still, I'd devoted my life to our little family and looked after Kenneth's daughter, Kendall Sterling.

Even though she'd never been fond of me, I never complained. It hit me then that, to Kenneth, all those countless days and nights we'd spent together were worth less than a handful of dirt in a grave.

My gaze fell on Roxana's photograph again, and my chest tightened. The pain surged up my throat. I hurriedly clamped a hand over my mouth and doubled over beside the tree, retching.

Just then, a woman's voice sounded from behind me. "My dad's dead, so you should know when to make your exit."

I whirled around to see Kendall standing there. I had no idea when she had arrived behind me. Her makeup was immaculate, and she regarded me with an ice-cold gaze.

"What are you doing here?" I instinctively rasped out.

"Of course I have to be here." She sneered, pulled a document from her bag, and thrust it in front of my face. "Sign it."

I lowered my head to read it. It was a waiver of asset claims in stark black and white.

It felt as though I'd been struck by lightning. I jerked my head up to look her in the eye. "Your father just passed away. What's the meaning of this?"

"Isn't it obvious? It means you have absolutely no claim to any of my father's savings or properties," she answered calmly, though every single word cut deep. "He drew up his will long ago. I'm the sole beneficiary. Now, pack up your belongings and get out of my house as soon as possible!"

I stared at the young lady I'd poured 20 years of my heart and soul into raising and felt the blood in my veins run cold. "Kendall Sterling, I've raised you for two decades! How could you do this to me?"

My voice trembled. "Even though you're not my biological daughter, I've always treated you as if you were—"

"As if I were what? Aren't I a tool to keep my dad tied to you?" she sneered. Her eyes were filled with disdain. "Don't make yourself sound so noble. You were nothing but the nanny my father brought in to take care of me!"

Kendall took a step forward and lowered her voice. "Do you really think you're the only one by his side? Don't be naive. There were plenty of women far more important than you, and every one of them knew how to make him happy better than you ever could!

"Who do you think you are? You were just a housewife who was guarding an empty nest. Did you seriously think you were the only woman in his life?"

The color drained from my face. She curled her lips in triumph and stuffed a pen into my hand. "Sign it and scram! If you don't, I have plenty of ways to ruin your reputation and leave you with absolutely nothing."

Without sparing me another glance, she turned on her heels. The sharp click of her high heels echoed as she walked out of the cemetery.

I stood frozen in place, and I was barely able to hold on to the document in my trembling hands. Hatred surged within me. It was so overwhelming it almost suffocated me.

None of this made sense. Why would she say such things?

After cooperating with the cops to transfer Kenneth's body to the funeral home, I sped home and frantically rummaged through his belongings. Sure enough, I realized what was amiss.

I found another phone. Its photo gallery was filled with intimate pictures of him with different women. Every single woman bore some resemblance to Roxana.

I felt as though a thunderbolt had struck me. I charged out the door, heading straight to the funeral home.

"Kenneth Sterling, you fucking bastard. I'm going to tear you limb from limb!" I fumed inwardly.

But before I could even make it out of the stairwell, Kendall stepped out and blocked my way.

Kenneth actually had the nerve to ask me for the money he'd invested back. I almost laughed out loud. I slapped him hard across the face. "Here, have a slap instead!" His world came crashing down around him, and he was so furious that he fainted on the spot. My life, on the other hand, was only just beginning. …Things were far from over, though. As soon as she learned the news, Margaret rushed to the hospital. She took one look at her son and realized his manhood was missing. Her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, and with a shrill shriek, she set off to seek revenge on Roxana. Unfortunately, she was just an old hag with little strength. In the end, she got beaten black and blue. Her head was so swollen that it looked like a pumpkin. Margaret returned to the hospital in tears to see Kenneth. Her ears were filled with the chatter of the medical staff. "Morgiana really drew the short straw marrying into that family." "Kenneth looks like a decent man on the outsid

I accepted them. My fingers trembled slightly with excitement. Kenneth's money was finally in my hands. This time, I was genuinely thrilled. However, I wore a devastated look on the surface. I sneered inwardly, took a deep breath, and forced myself to calm down. My voice was choked with emotion. "G-Get up first. Stop humiliating yourself in public..."He looked as though he'd been granted a reprieve and hurriedly scrambled to his feet. I turned my back on him and our neighbors and sniffled. "Let's talk after I calm down." Right after saying that, I clutched the stack of cards, walked back into my bedroom, and shut the door. The moment the door clicked shut, all the sorrow vanished from my face, and my eyes lit up. My first step was a total success. Now, it was time to make that shameless couple pay an even steeper price. …After getting my hands on his money, I pretended to forgive Kenneth, albeit reluctantly, while secretly setting my plan in motion. I knew him all

My hands and feet turned ice-cold, and hatred surged in my eyes. I wanted nothing more than to rush over and kill Kenneth and Roxana. But I couldn't do that just yet. I didn't emerge from my hiding spot until they had left in post-coital bliss. The air still reeked of their revolting rendezvous. After getting into the car, I created an alt account without a moment's hesitation. I clipped the most explicit part of the video and posted it online. The video had been censored to cover their explicit parts, so it didn't qualify as the distribution of pornography. It spread like wildfire. I sat in the car, watching the group chat notifications and repost alerts pop up one after another on my phone. I felt perfectly calm. Wasn't Kenneth so sure I'd always forgive him? Now, it was time for everyone to see what kind of lowlifes he and his beloved really were! …In less than an hour, the video had gone viral. I timed it just right and beat them home. I rushed into my bedroom, locked

Roxana had probably been pestering Kenneth relentlessly in the last few days. Three days later, when I brought up the deal again, his attitude had softened considerably. "Here, take this." He handed me a card. "Be extremely careful," he reminded me sternly."Don't worry." I accepted it with a sweet smile. "I won't let you down." The moment I stepped out of the house, the smile on my face instantly vanished. I'd won this first round. However, the real battle had only just begun. …After getting my hands on the money, I pretended to be busy setting up the business on the surface while secretly keeping a close eye on Kenneth's every move. He went to Roxana's place more and more frequently. His excuses were always the same—meeting clients. It was laughably clumsy. One evening, he told me he had a business dinner on the outskirts of the city. I had installed a mini tracker on his car beforehand, and I watched it stop next to a wetland park three miles from the golf course. I

"Absolutely." I inched closer to Kenneth and lowered my voice. "Briar told me it's a pretty big shipment, and we have to pay the full amount upfront within the next couple of days. If we can buy the whole lot, we can make at least 150 grand by reselling it." 150 grand was no small amount. Kenneth leaned back into the cushions. "It sounds like a good deal, but we don't have that much cash on hand right now." "I know." I took his hand. "So I was thinking… why don't we ask Mr. Fern to return the money we lent him? This deal is practically guaranteed to make a profit. We can pay him back as soon as we wrap it up. We can even give him an extra 20 grand as interest."His fingers twitched slightly before he casually withdrew his hand and picked up his glass to take a sip. "Mr. Fern's cash flow still hasn't recovered. It wouldn't be right for us to ask him for our money back now." I sneered inwardly. It wouldn't be appropriate, my ass. He hadn't lent Mr. Fern money at all. He'd used it

By the time I drove near the wildlife park, I could already see from afar that the rescue operation had ended. The ambulances and park management vehicles had their flashing lights on. Sam and Margaret were being helped to their feet. Their faces were pale, and they looked visibly shaken. Kendall's hair was a mess, and her eyes were red and puffy. A large chunk of her hair had been ripped out by an animal, leaving her with a bald patch. I parked my car and strutted over in my high heels. I plastered a worried look on my face. "Sam, Margaret, Kendall, are you alright? You guys almost gave me a heart attack! I rushed over as soon as I received your call, but traffic was terrible."I stepped forward and reached out to support Margaret. Kenneth marched toward me, veins bulging on his forehead. He seized my wrist so tightly that my bones ached. "Where the hell were you earlier, Morgiana Brooks? Why didn't you answer any of my calls? Do you have any idea how close Mom, Dad, and Ke
