Fake marriage

Leslie

I don't know how I made it downstairs without breaking down.

I sat in my car for a long time, eyes fixed on nothing as reality slowly dawned at me.

My marriage of three years was fake.

I spend three years of my life invested in something that never existed.

The marriage papers sat there on the passenger seat, glaring at me as if mocking me. I don't even remember putting them there.

Outside, people moved without any care in the world.

To them, it was a normal afternoon, a normal world. No one cared that my life had just crumbled like a sand tower.

After what felt like forever, I grabbed my phone and made a call.

“ Leslie? Are you alright?”

That was her first question when the call connected.

My heart clenched painfully.

Hearing her concerned voice hurt more than the betrayal I witnessed earlier.

After two years. She never changed.

“ Are you free? I want to see you.”

A moment of silence passed then…

“ I'll see you in our usual spot.” She said, I hummed in response before ending the call.

Thirty minutes later, I walked into a familiar bar and spotted a familiar face waving at me.

Nothing about her wild nature had changed even from this far.

Do you know what else hadn't changed, how she looked at me as I approached her.

She stood up and pulled me into a hug.

We stayed like that until I felt tears sting my eyes. That's when I pulled away, afraid that I'd break down in here.

Once settled down, I ordered a cocktail for myself.

I had taken the second sip when Lydia's piercing glare overwhelmed me.

“ What?” I asked without looking up.

“ You don't look fine. Did something happen with Austin?” Lydia asked, her voice suddenly turning cold.

I almost laughed despite my emotional situation.

How could I forget that those two never liked each other?

Austin said Lydia was a bad influence and Lydia never trusted him. She always said that he was a man who didn't deserve me.

Now, looking back, Lydia was right. He never deserved me.

My silence was answer enough. Lydia slammed her hand on the table drawing the attention of other patrons.

“ That bastard! I knew he was no good for you.” She declared angrily.

I looked around to find people staring at us.

" Calm down, will you? You are scaring the others." I said in a small voice.

Lydia looked around and had the decency to look embarrassed.

" Leslie, I can't bring myself to calm down." She huffed.

" You don't even know what happened." I pointed out, amused.

She had already assigned the worst of Austin, not like he didn't deserve it.

" I don't and that's why you are going to tell me." She replied and I did exactly that.

I told her about the fake marriage, the children I lost, his affair with Sally and the child they were expecting.

By the time I was done, Lydia's face was red with anger. She looked like she could burger someone.

" I knew that bastard was up to no good. I knew he was a snake." She snapped.

" I'm going to kill him right now." She added, slamming her glass on the table.

"Lydia." I grabbed her wrist before she could stand.

"Leslie, don't try to stop me. I can't swallow that disrespect."

She declared.

“ No one is asking you to swallow it. He is not worth your anger.” I tried to console her, wondering how I ended up being the one to calm others down.

Lydia took her seat, chest heaving and eyes still blazing. I almost envied her. She was feeling everything I hadn't allowed myself to feel yet.

“ What do you plan to do next?” She asked and I shook my head, taking a swing of my cocktail.

“ I don't know.” I whispered.

I hadn't allowed myself time to think about my next step.

“ What? Don't tell me you still want to fight for him. Leslie, he fooled you with a fake marriage for three years.” Lydia pointed out.

“ Fight? I never fight for anything.”

Austin already made his choice and I was going to respect it.

Lydia sighed at that.

I understood her concern. Afterall, two years ago, I chose to walk away from our friendship to focus on my marriage.

Thanks to Austin's insecurity, Lydia and I almost fell out.

I failed her once by choosing Austin over our friendship of years, how could I afford to fail her again.

Lydia leaned towards me, her gaze pinned on my face.

“ So does he know who you really are?" She asked.

I let out a short breath.

"I was going to tell him tonight. I thought filing the papers and coming clean about my identity would be a good anniversary surprise." I revealed, scoffing at how ironic saying that out loud sounded.

Lydia stared at me then she laughed. It was a short disbelieving laugh.

"So he doesn't even know what he threw away." She asked.

I didn't answer that. The answer was obvious.

In Austin's mind, I was an orphan who managed to get a scholarship and that's how I managed to study in the same school with him.

I had sold him that lie when we met and it had served me well throughout our fake marriage.

My phone lit up on the table and glanced down at the screen.

It was a message from Austin.

At first, I contemplated leaving it unread but finally decided against it.

“Hey love. Something came up at work. Won't make it home for dinner tonight. I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you. Happy anniversary.”

I stared at it for a moment then set the phone face down.

I didn't feel disappointed. I felt numb.

"He is not coming home tonight." I informed Lydia, chuckling.

Lydia's eyes narrowed. "He must be out celebrating with his real family." She pointed out then later realised she might have said something wrong.

“ That's not what I…” she started to explain but I cut her off.

"Don't be. That's the truth. He has a real family that doesn't include me.”

Lydia watched me carefully. "Do you want us to crash the party?" She proposed.

Crashing the party sounded like a good plan, but not the best.

“ No need for that.

I am going to crash his life instead.” I declared.

Damon stared at me as if I had lost my gadamn mind. I might have but I wasn't going to show him that. After all, I had a reputation to protect." You what?" He asked, looking at me with wide eyes. He looked shocked as if he wasn't expecting that answer. Honestly,I wasn't expecting it either. The words slipped out of my mouth before I could even process them but I didn't regret it. I wanted him...I wanted to see what the mysterious bodyguard was hiding underneath all that seriousness. I wanted to see how he was in bed." You heard me," I replied, my tone unwavering. "I want you. Not tomorrow, not next week. Now. Right here." I declared. I know I was pushing my limits but so what? I liked the thrill of it.Damon looked at me and whatever expression on my face, and for a second, I saw a flicker of something in his eyes. It was something that looked an awful lot like desire but it was quickly replaced by a cold, hard mask." You're crazy," he said, shaking his head." I'm a woman who know

He said, pulling up his pants and buckling the belt.I just stood there in a daze, not knowing how to react. My mushroom soup was forgotten and the kitchen was silent with unspoken promises. I didn't know what to do with my hands. I didn't know how to process what had just happened. My body was humming, but my mind was a mess. And Mikhail knew it. He could read me so easily. Without saying a word, he moved behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist, and rested his chin on my shoulder. "Just breathe," he murmured.I did. I inhaled, smelling him…a mix of expensive cologne, and pure male. He grounded me when I was spinning out of control. The silence stretched, but it wasn't uncomfortable. It was…intimate.I had always been in control of my life and my body. I had always been the one to decide when and where and with whom. But with Mikhail, I felt like I was losing control, and the scary part was, I didn't even care." Mikhail…?" I asked, my voice hesitant." Hm?" He murmured, his lips

Leslie POV Mikhail's hands tightened on my hips as I pulled him closer, my legs still wrapped around his waist. The marble counter was cool against my skin and it was like a stark contrast to the heat radiating from him. I could feel every muscle in his body and the tension coiled in his shoulders as he held himself back…barely."Mikhail," I breathed against his mouth, and he groaned, pulling back just enough to look at me.His eyes were dark, nearly black, and I could see the war happening behind them. The predator wanting to take and the man wanting to give. As a mobster boss,I could swear he was never used to holding back but he was doing it…for me. I don't how that made me feel."Tell me to stop," he said, his voice rough. "Tell me right now and I will."I should have told him that…every rational part of me screamed that I should. This was dangerous. He was dangerous. We were dangerous together.Instead, I reached up and pulled his shirt over his head.He let me, his eyes never l

Leslie POV " You are in a good mood." Mikhail's voice reached my ears as I swayed gently in the kitchen, stirring my mushroom soup.I turned around to face him, a smile plastered on my face." Of course I am in a good mood." I replied. How could I not? Austin had shot himself in the foot and to pearl Jewels, that meant more money. After Lydia entered the meeting, she trippled the market price of the stones. Austin left with no choice had to sign a new contract with her company. He was wise enough to know that paying a tripple price than the normal market price was better than loosing his company. Of course, his ego wouldn't allow him to see me acquire Cox enterprises. Not that he was safe from me. I knew Cox enterprises liquidity and cashflow and after that crazy expensive purchase from Haven suppliers, I was sure they were in a bad shape financially. This gave me an upper hand if I wanted to acquire them. Let's just say that that was my step two of my plan.Mikhail's steps were sile

Marcel's question threw me off the hook and I found myself narrowing my eyes at him. Why was he asking that when I had already briefed him about it last night at the call?But...I shrugged it off and explained the whole process. After all, I didn't want something going wrong during the meeting." Is everything ready?" I asked to double check. Marcel nodded." Good. I'll be there in five minutes." I informed him. After taking some deep breaths and asking Lydia to wish me good luck, I left my office and headed to the meeting room. When I pushed the door open, I was surprised to see Sally sitting besides Austin and not the secretary I knew. A frown formed on my face. Why was Austin bringing Sally into such an important meeting?" What? You are not happy to see me? You thought you could have Austin all yo yourself?" Sally sneered, a look of hatred plastered all over her face.Marcel was already settled opposite Austin so I ignored Sally's remarks and made my way to my position at the head

Leslie POV My grandfather paused then looked at me." Why do you ask?" He inquired. I shrugged." Am I not allowed to know what I will be dealing with when I take office?" I asked. The old man stared at me then sighed." I know what you are thinking but you can be assured your uncle holds no much power in the board." He tried to assure me. I didn't believe it. Not one bit but I didn't call him out on that.Uncle Jared has always wanted control over the Grayson Holdings for as long as I can remember. My old man never made it easy for him but with grandfather growing old to supervise everything, I could already tell that there was trouble brewing somewhere." I'll be going back to Pearl jewels soon and handle everything. After that, I will take over the company." I informed him.The old man sighed." Leslie, you know our agreement. Only after you get married can you take over." He declared. I waited to argue but decided against it. That was the rule three years ago,it still is.After t
