Fake marriage

Leslie

I don't know how I made it downstairs without breaking down.

I sat in my car for a long time, eyes fixed on nothing as reality slowly dawned at me.

My marriage of three years was fake.

I spend three years of my life invested in something that never existed.

The marriage papers sat there on the passenger seat, glaring at me as if mocking me. I don't even remember putting them there.

Outside, people moved without any care in the world.

To them, it was a normal afternoon, a normal world. No one cared that my life had just crumbled like a sand tower.

After what felt like forever, I grabbed my phone and made a call.

“ Leslie? Are you alright?”

That was her first question when the call connected.

My heart clenched painfully.

Hearing her concerned voice hurt more than the betrayal I witnessed earlier.

After two years. She never changed.

“ Are you free? I want to see you.”

A moment of silence passed then…

“ I'll see you in our usual spot.” She said, I hummed in response before ending the call.

Thirty minutes later, I walked into a familiar bar and spotted a familiar face waving at me.

Nothing about her wild nature had changed even from this far.

Do you know what else hadn't changed, how she looked at me as I approached her.

She stood up and pulled me into a hug.

We stayed like that until I felt tears sting my eyes. That's when I pulled away, afraid that I'd break down in here.

Once settled down, I ordered a cocktail for myself.

I had taken the second sip when Lydia's piercing glare overwhelmed me.

“ What?” I asked without looking up.

“ You don't look fine. Did something happen with Austin?” Lydia asked, her voice suddenly turning cold.

I almost laughed despite my emotional situation.

How could I forget that those two never liked each other?

Austin said Lydia was a bad influence and Lydia never trusted him. She always said that he was a man who didn't deserve me.

Now, looking back, Lydia was right. He never deserved me.

My silence was answer enough. Lydia slammed her hand on the table drawing the attention of other patrons.

“ That bastard! I knew he was no good for you.” She declared angrily.

I looked around to find people staring at us.

" Calm down, will you? You are scaring the others." I said in a small voice.

Lydia looked around and had the decency to look embarrassed.

" Leslie, I can't bring myself to calm down." She huffed.

" You don't even know what happened." I pointed out, amused.

She had already assigned the worst of Austin, not like he didn't deserve it.

" I don't and that's why you are going to tell me." She replied and I did exactly that.

I told her about the fake marriage, the children I lost, his affair with Sally and the child they were expecting.

By the time I was done, Lydia's face was red with anger. She looked like she could burger someone.

" I knew that bastard was up to no good. I knew he was a snake." She snapped.

" I'm going to kill him right now." She added, slamming her glass on the table.

"Lydia." I grabbed her wrist before she could stand.

"Leslie, don't try to stop me. I can't swallow that disrespect."

She declared.

“ No one is asking you to swallow it. He is not worth your anger.” I tried to console her, wondering how I ended up being the one to calm others down.

Lydia took her seat, chest heaving and eyes still blazing. I almost envied her. She was feeling everything I hadn't allowed myself to feel yet.

“ What do you plan to do next?” She asked and I shook my head, taking a swing of my cocktail.

“ I don't know.” I whispered.

I hadn't allowed myself time to think about my next step.

“ What? Don't tell me you still want to fight for him. Leslie, he fooled you with a fake marriage for three years.” Lydia pointed out.

“ Fight? I never fight for anything.”

Austin already made his choice and I was going to respect it.

Lydia sighed at that.

I understood her concern. Afterall, two years ago, I chose to walk away from our friendship to focus on my marriage.

Thanks to Austin's insecurity, Lydia and I almost fell out.

I failed her once by choosing Austin over our friendship of years, how could I afford to fail her again.

Lydia leaned towards me, her gaze pinned on my face.

“ So does he know who you really are?" She asked.

I let out a short breath.

"I was going to tell him tonight. I thought filing the papers and coming clean about my identity would be a good anniversary surprise." I revealed, scoffing at how ironic saying that out loud sounded.

Lydia stared at me then she laughed. It was a short disbelieving laugh.

"So he doesn't even know what he threw away." She asked.

I didn't answer that. The answer was obvious.

In Austin's mind, I was an orphan who managed to get a scholarship and that's how I managed to study in the same school with him.

I had sold him that lie when we met and it had served me well throughout our fake marriage.

My phone lit up on the table and glanced down at the screen.

It was a message from Austin.

At first, I contemplated leaving it unread but finally decided against it.

“Hey love. Something came up at work. Won't make it home for dinner tonight. I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you. Happy anniversary.”

I stared at it for a moment then set the phone face down.

I didn't feel disappointed. I felt numb.

"He is not coming home tonight." I informed Lydia, chuckling.

Lydia's eyes narrowed. "He must be out celebrating with his real family." She pointed out then later realised she might have said something wrong.

“ That's not what I…” she started to explain but I cut her off.

"Don't be. That's the truth. He has a real family that doesn't include me.”

Lydia watched me carefully. "Do you want us to crash the party?" She proposed.

Crashing the party sounded like a good plan, but not the best.

“ No need for that.

I am going to crash his life instead.” I declared.

Mikhail’s words sparked something deep within me and lust pooled low in my stomach, my core throbbing with need as he pressed himself closer, the outline of his thick cock rubbing against me through his hospital gown. His lips were inches from mine, his hand on the side of my face, fingers caressing my jawline as his thumb ran back and forth across my cheek, our breathing heavy as we stared at each other.“Please don’t say no, Leslie. I need you,” he croaked out the words as if he was in pain. He took my hand and placed it on his throbbing hardness.“Only you can cure me, Leslie. Only your body can,” he said and I squeezed his dick. Mikhail let out a tortured grunt, throwing his head back as his hips involuntarily thrust up into my grip, his cock pulsing. I took the opportunity to lick his throat and run my tongue across the stubble on his chin.“I want to do that,” I told him, my lips running across his, not quite kissing him yet.“You do? Are you sure?” he asked and I nodded, my eye

Leslie POV When I opened my eyes again, the pounding headache was no longer there. My eyes scanned my surroundings and I found myself in my room. My memories were hazy and I couldn't remember how I'd ended up there. All I knew was that some stupid bastard had been about to force himself on me when a woman barged in and rescued me."You're finally awake," a sweet voice said from beside me, making me snap my head in that direction. The woman from earlier was seated on a chair next to my bed, her eyes fixed on her long manicured fingers.Slowly, she looked up and my way."Since you're awake, it's about time I got on with my business," she declared, casting me one last glance. She was on her feet, ready to exit. My hand reached out to her and she turned to look at me."Where is Mikhail?" I blurted out the first thing that came to mind. She chuckled at my question. I didn't know what she found funny, but the amused look on her face made me frown."I was expecting you'd ask any other quest

Leslie POV I had been in and out of consciousness those past hours. I didn’t know if it was the blood loss or the hunger. That bastard had denied me food and water. My throat was parched, and I could feel the headache pounding through my head.My vision was blurry…everything was blurry and dark. I tried to look around, but I couldn’t see anything. The place reeked of mold and the musty smell of water and urine.I didn’t know what he had planned for me.What he would do to me.He had said something about me being his plaything after he killed Mikhail. I didn’t know if Mikhail had realized that I was missing. He had probably already received a message from that crazy bastard. He had mentioned something about striking a deal with Mikhail. Something about his asset Mikhail confiscated. A deal he planned not to honor but to use me as a trap to kill Mikhail. Oh God. I hoped Mikhail wouldn’t fall for his plot. That would be like delivering himself on a silver platter. Yet the hope of leavin

Mikhail POV The day dragged itself painfully. Every minute, the only thing I thought about was Leslie and how to get her out of there. After securing Amelia, Kenji Tanaka had informed me we'd do a transaction at a location of his choice. The bitch in exchange for Leslie.I was no fool to believe his bullshit. After double-crossing him, he'd definitely retaliate. The most probable way was getting the woman back, then killing Leslie to get back at me. He knew I was desperate to save her, and he was going to use that to his advantage.I also knew that if I wanted my woman alive, I needed to make the first move — rescue Leslie, then get rid of that fucker.I'd been trying to locate his hideout, and so far, no positive news. It was like the bastard had disappeared from Chicago. I knew better than to assume that. The rat was just good at hiding.I couldn't concentrate on anything. I didn't think I would, until I got her back. When my office door creaked open, Damon entered with a careful l

Mikhail pov "What happened?" Damon asked from behind me, after seeing the condition of my living room. I didn’t even know that they had followed me here.My house looked like someone had trashed it on purpose. From the look of things, they had waited until Leslie unlocked the door before attacking her and kidnapping her.I lifted my face to stare at him, enunciating every word. "They have Leslie."The words left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth and I suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe."What? Who has her?" Roman asked this time, and I clenched my fists, my nails almost drawing blood."That bloody asshole Kenji Tanaka. He wants that woman in exchange for her," I answered his query.Roman's face hardened and a darkness I was so familiar with clogged his eyes."That means…" I nodded, not needing him to finish his statement. That pussy knew I'd been the one who took Amelia and he'd used Leslie to threaten me.Without a word, Damon made a call and we both turned to look at him, hopefull

Earlier Leslie POV We arrived gome and I dragged Lydia from the car. She was wasted, something that made me raise my brows. Lydia was never one to get drunk. She could drink the whole and still walk around surveying handsome men. Maybe stagger a little but that's it.So, why was she looking like someone about to pass out?" Come, let's get you inside." I said supporting her and helping her walk.We didn't make it far before she started dry heaving. I stopped and held her hair as she puked on the perfectly manicured lawn." I am sorry." She said when she was done, her voice barely a whisper." It's okay. Let's just get you inside." I said, my patience wearing thin. I just wanted to get her to bed and then go to sleep myself. The encounter with that stranger had left me shaken and I needed to process it.We finally made it to the door and I was about to open it when I felt a sharp sting on my neck. I flinched and reached for the spot, my fingers coming away wet.I looked at my fingers
