Hazel's POV
Liam had painted a world of forever in my eyes, but in a single day, he destroyed our world and tore it apart. I gazed at the reflection of myself and the broken, imperfect figure stared back at me with her tear rimmed eyes. Pale skin, raven dark hair and sunken eyes—I looked like a living dead. No, I am a living dead. A part of me died when Liam announced his wedding with Alessandra. It shattered my soul completely, leaving me battered, broken and hopeless.
My gaze shifted, landing on the white Invitation card with a blue seal at the front. The tips were decorated with golden flowers, elegant and fascinating at the same time. It reminded me of my mating ceremony with Liam, and my heart clenched, a suffocating feeling in my chest. The celebration of the full moon was an annual ceremony, and as Luna, it was my duty to attend alongside Liam even though our union was dying. We both knew the truth, but Liam was hell-bent on keeping it as a secret from the elders.
I reached for my purse and blinked back the tears that threatened to ruin my make-up. Tonight, I have to put on the mask of a strong Luna, not the weak omega who cries herself to sleep every night.
My steps echoed as I strode through the hallway, eager to glimpse Liam before the banquet, but like always, he was with Alessandra, laughing and giggling like I never existed. In his black tuxedo, he looked like the prince of darkness, charming, dangerous and appealing. His long, strong legs were crossed, and his arms rested on the sides of the couch. His hair was neatly trimmed, and his eyes sparkled with warmth as he gazed at Alessandra.
“Liam.” I tightened my grip on my purse and strode towards them, “I'm ready for the banquet.” Liam lifted his head and stared at me, “Good.” He said plainly. There was no admiration or desire in his eyes. I, his mate, became an ordinary woman. In just a few days, I had lost my husband to his ex. How pathetic?
A night of flickering candle light; soft music and the murmur of many voices filled the air. Women updos and expensive jewelries sauntered across the room, their dress sweeping the floors as they giggled among themselves. There were thick velvet drapes over the large french windows, stewards walking around with a glass or two to serve. The annual celebration of the full moon was going perfectly, but my heart skips a beat whenever I see Liam dance with Alessandra. It was the third now, and I was starting to get mocking gazes thrown at me.
They seemed to be more than gazes, they were glares: some of them were genuinely surprised as to why the Alpha had left his wife and was now dancing with another woman. Others were judgemental gazes, which told me louder than words that they were trying to work out, in their heads, what unspeakable crime I must have committed to deserve this.
I hated the fact that they were always going to blame me anyway without properly investigating. But that was the only way it was going to ever play out anyway.
Liam was so hellbent on keeping up a facade that everything was alright when deep down our marriage was suffering bruises that were unhealable and cuts that were open too deep and too wide to be covered. I stood from my position watching as Liam seductively ran his hand over the bodice of the new girl. Even mentioning her name, Alessandra was difficult for me to do. They stuffed their noses at each other laughing.
The subtle stares I was receiving from the crowd now became so loud, the glares transitioned from mere ocular to a state where it invaded my head with thoughts or were they voices? Liam did not care. Not even in the least. He kept on dancing with Alessandra like I had never existed.
“Why are you not there?” I heard a voice from behind me. It turned to the sight of a woman. She smiled a crooked smile, not one of kindness, but one of mock and derision. “I wonder what your parents would think if they found out that you were unable to keep that charming man.”
I nearly lost it there and then but I was held back by the fact that it was not worth fighting for a man who had just left me in my pregnancy for another woman who had not been in his life for years now. It was true that many girls fancied Liam. He was not only handsome, tall, and fit, but he was also intelligent, strong, and powerful. He was the full package as far as a man could go.
I sucked up air into my lungs and turned the other way away from the woman who had come to confront me.
“How does it feel? Being an irresponsible wife? Seeing your husband dancing with someone more deserving.”
“Do you want to know what it feels like seeing my husband dance with another woman?” my voice had switched to an ominous tone so quickly; I could see the woman’s brief flash of fear. “I’ll show you just how it feels.” I stepped closer, closing the gap between us. “And I promise you, it is not a feeling that you will forget any time soon.”
The lady missed a step and fell to the ground, landing on her rump.
“What is going on?” Liam’s voice came with his sudden appearance.
“She was threatening me!” The woman was quick to point a finger.
Without further questioning, Liam turned to me. “You’d do well to behave yourself in public.” He spat, “Behave like you deserve the position of a Luna!” he added before walking away. My mouth hung open. Who was this man? There was no way in hell that this man was the man I had gotten married to for two
years.
“Listen up, everybody!” Liam called out and in an instance there was dead silence. Even, I knew very well that whatever he was going to say would most likely break me, I stayed to listen to what he had to say and it was short and simple. He wrapped his arms around Alessandra as his lips stretched into a smile,
“Tonight, during the celebration of the full moon, I declare Alessandra here, as my new Luna.”
Hazel's POV They found a clue yesterday. It was one of the leads that brightened my mood. The person who hurt Elara’s DNA was found and they are going to check if it is aligned with the DNA they found on the paper. It brought relief to me knowing we are closer to finding the culprit sooner than we imagined. I was glad this didn't turn out to be a dead end. Stacks of documents were piled on my table. Just how many days has it been since all this stuff happened? Elara was so sweet, she helped arrange them neatly in an orderly manner, even though she wasn't supposed to. She briefed me on things that I ought to know… she would have been here with me checking the documents, but Riley and I insisted that she get some rest. Two knocks on the door before the knob twisted and opened, revealing Peculiar. She had a sour mood, and her eyes were red. I hurriedly closed the document I was working on and kept my glasses on the table. Standing up abruptly, I strided towards where she was standin
Alessandra's POV I've waited for the perfect moment to strike. What Slasher did could have gone wrong, but I decided to let it be an advantage for me. Make them deviate… be distracted and focused on finding whoever caused the fire. “How about we take Lucy out of the way? She might be a problem for us in the future,” Slasher proposed. I knew he didn't like Lucy at all, but I need Joe under my leash. His money has been a good leverage for me and I won’t want to risk it. “No, leave her be once she becomes a problem I'll do that personally,” I responded. He nodded but didn't look pleased with my words, but who cares about that. He wants to be the Alpha of alphas and I… I want revenge! I want to ruin the legacy of the Brooks and make them pay with their blood. “How's the search for the culprit going? Do they have a clue?” I asked, wanting to know where I would take the next step from. “No, those dumbasses had no clue. And the culprit is right here with me,” he said with a smug smile
Lucy's POV “What mess did you create out there?” Alessandra’s cold voice dragged me out of my reverie. I darted my eyes to the window, subconsciously biting my lower lip. “No mess, I am here for the herbs and perfume. Did you bring it?” I asked, going straight to the point. Alessandra gave me a knowing look, her lips pulled up in a twitch before rolling her eyes. “Why would you want me to give you that when you haven’t achieved anything? You seem like a lost cause; it’s better if I let you die there,” She threatened. I scoffed, leaning my back on the chair, “Leave me to die? That creative, but not good enough, Alessandra. Who said I haven’t achieved anything? I need the herbs to live, and you need me. This deal is a transactional one, and you can’t treat me like I'm your pet,” I retorted sharply, glaring daggers at her. I saw her vein pop out, as if my words touched a good spot. She needs to be irritated and angry, but not too much. Both of them should stop acting like jerks, it
120 ~Liam~ I banged the door to my study room hoping it would let the steam off. Everyone’s been working their asses off investigating this issue and others doing their respective work. If I said this particular outbreak didn’t affect many people then that would be a lie. But Hazel is taking it too deep, she’s letting it cloud her senses over riding her emotions. I tried to let her see that but she won’t let me do that. A frustrated sigh escaped my lips and I gruffed falling on the sofa. I am exhausted and yet, I can't help but worry about Hazel. Hissing, I sat upright, my slender fingers raked through my hair before scattering them abruptly. ‘Give her time,’ Kaden said, his tone soft and unlike him. He only acts this way when it comes to our mate. ‘I really am trying to understand her and yes, I would give her time, just for tonight,’ I responded. Later in the evening, I went back to the room ready to retire to bed. My eyes darted to Hazel who was on the bed, her eyes closed
Hazel's POV I honestly don't like how things have been happening in the pack. When I visited the women they looked so awful, no matter what their mate said to them it wasn't enough.“I lost my womb! I can't give you a child,” one of them women, Terrain said to her mate with tears strolling down her face. I knew right there, that moment that no amount of words I would say would comfort her.It would be hypocritical if I should tell her that all would be well and that Selene may hear her cries. What exactly would I say to these women?I had been torn, ashamed of my leadership skills. Those voices in my head were loud enough, stating I wasn't good enough and would never be good enough.Words got stuck in my tongue?“Ouch!” I yelped, jerking my hands from the electric kettle. I hissed, shaking my hands because of the pain I felt, I dipped my hands into the water to ease it.“Hey, are you okay?” Liam asked, rushing over to my side. I nodded my head absentmindedly, drawing my hands out of
Hazel's POV ‘Skies!’ Lyra said in my head as we stepped out of the house. Dominic said he would help with the kids while Liam and I could go do our respective duties.Liam barely slept yesterday… So do I!It was hard for me to sleep knowing there were women in the healers' wing, unsure of whether the pain reliever would help. Liam tried to make me sleep, but I told him to leave me be.He didn't do what I asked of him, and he stayed awake trying to make me sleep, and I did eventually, but just for three hours. A nightmare woke me up, and that was enough to keep me awake till daybreak. Liam was in his study room. I didn't want to disturb him, so I dropped a coffee on his table.“Elara?” One of my brows arched when I saw her coming closer to where I stood.“What? Shocked that I am out here to help my Luna,” She sent me a warm smile.“Of course, I am supposed to be resting. I can handle this on my own,” I said, trying to make him change her mind. But she had that adamant look on.“Stop a
