Two officers stepped out of the arriving vehicle and headed towards the injured cabbie.

Anna quickly loaded her suitcase and handbag into Georgia's car before settling into the passenger seat.

Georgia turned towards her, her eyes immediately scanning her face.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

Anna shook her head. “No. I'm fine. Just shaken because of the gun the driver pointed at me.”

“Fine?” Georgia repeated, disbelief written all over her face. “Anna, someone pointed a gun at you! How can you sit there telling me you're fine?”

Anna forced a small smile. “I'm alive, aren't I?”

Georgia reached over and squeezed her hand. “Thank God.”

Anna glanced through the window just as Elliot drove past them.

“That's my arrogant boss,” she remarked.

Georgia looked at her. “Your boss? You mean you work for that man?”

“Yes. Unfortunately.” Anna rolled her eyes, she doesn't like his arrogance at all.

“Did you call him for help?” Georgia asked.

“No. He just appeared at the right time. I honestly thought I was going to die in that taxi.” Anna replied softly.

Georgia's expression darkened. “What exactly happened?”

Anna took a deep breath and explained everything, from Jacob throwing her out of the mansion to the driver revealing that her ex-husband wanted her out of the city.

Georgia's fingers tightened around the steering wheel.

“That bastard!” she exclaimed. “After everything he has done, he still thinks he can control your life?”

Anna looked down at her hands. “I don't understand him anymore. He wants another woman, so why can't he just leave me alone? Why does he have to go this far?”

Georgia glanced at her friend, her anger slowly giving way to concern.

“Because he's a selfish bastard, Anna. But listen to me. You are not going to let that man destroy the rest of your life. Do you understand?”

Anna nodded.

Georgia drove her to a beautiful apartment she had rented for her. It was located in a quiet neighbourhood, with security at the entrance and a spacious interior.

Once they entered, Anna looked around in surprise.

The apartment had a large living room, a comfortable bedroom, a modern kitchen, and tasteful furniture. Everything was already arranged, so she only needed to bring in her belongings.

Georgia handed her a key.

“Here. You can change the passcode to whatever you want. Nobody has access to this place except you.”

Anna stared at the key before looking at her friend.

“Georgia…”

“Don't start crying,” Georgia warned, pointing a finger at her. “I didn't do all this just to have you standing here making me emotional.”

Anna let out a shaky laugh, but tears still slipped down her cheeks.

“Thank you so much. I don't know what I would have done without you.”

She stepped forward and hugged Georgia tightly.

Georgia wrapped her arms around her.

“Please don't think about anything tonight. Get some rest. I'm right by your side, and we'll figure everything else out together.”

Anna nodded against her shoulder.

For the first time that day, she felt safe.

After Georgia left, Anna began arranging her belongings. She unpacked her clothes, arranged her toiletries in the bathroom, and placed her handbag on the bedside table.

By the time she finished, it was already one in the morning.

She took a quick shower, changed into something comfortable, and climbed into bed.

Her eyes drifted towards the unfamiliar ceiling.

She was divorced. Homeless, at least until Georgia stepped in. And almost kidnapped. All in a single day.

Anna closed her eyes, silently hoping the next chapter of her life would be kinder to her.

The following morning, Anna woke up earlier than usual.

She had barely slept, but she refused to let the previous day's events ruin her first day in her new life.

After taking a shower, she dressed in a blue gown that fell just above her knees. It wasn't particularly revealing, and it fitted her body comfortably.

She stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the fabric around her waist.

A small smile appeared on her face.

No more Jacob.

No more waiting for him to come home. No more making excuses for his behaviour or wondering whether she was good enough for him.

From now on, it was just Anna.

She picked up her handbag and walked out of the apartment.

Georgia had arranged for her driver to pick her up, insisting that she wouldn't feel comfortable until Anna was safely at work.

Anna smiled when she saw the car.

Her friend really was something else.

“Good morning, ma'am,” the driver greeted, opening the door for her.

“Good morning. Thank you.”

The journey to the company was peaceful. Anna spent most of it staring through the window, mentally preparing herself for the day.

When they arrived, she stepped out, thanked the driver, and walked into the building.

She greeted the receptionist before heading towards her department.

However, the moment she approached her desk, she stopped.

Three police officers were standing around it.

Anna blinked.

What was going on?

One of the officers was examining something on her desk while another spoke quietly to a member of staff.

Several employees had gathered nearby, whispering among themselves.

“Is that her?”

“I think so.”

“Why would the police come looking for her?”

“Maybe she did something.”

Anna's brows furrowed.

She slowly approached, her handbag hanging from her shoulder.

“Excuse me,” she said, looking from one officer to another. “Is there a problem?”

The three officers turned towards her.

One of them stepped forward, his expression serious.

“Are you Miss Anna Williams?” Her stomach tightened.

“Yes. That's me.” she replied.

The officer exchanged a brief glance with his colleague before speaking again. “Miss Williams, we need you to come with us.”

Anna's smile disappeared. “Come with you? Why?”

“We have some questions regarding an incident.”

“What incident?”

The officer glanced at her desk.

“Are you familiar with a man named Jacob Williams?”

Anna's blood ran cold. Jacob? Why was his name coming up again?

She swallowed, her eyes moving between the officers.

“Yes,” she answered cautiously. “He's my ex-husband.”

The officer nodded. “Then I'm afraid you'll need to accompany us to the station.”

Anna's fingers tightened around her handbag.

“What has he done now?” she asked, her voice laced with frustration.

The murmuring among the employees grew louder.

The words sounded small in the quiet room, but she needed to say them. She didn't deserve to be cheated on. She didn't deserve to be insulted because of her body. She wished she could talk to her mother right now, tell her everything but her number was blocked, even if she goes to Indonesia to find them, they've left the apartment they used to live inside before. She hasn't written much in it yet, but tonight she needed somewhere to put everything she couldn't say aloud. She opened to a fresh page, her handbag was in the living room, she went to carry it, picked her pen inside and sat on the bed. For a few seconds, she didn't know where to begin. Then she started writing. Dear Diary, I don't even know how to explain how I feel tonight. Today was supposed to be a good day. I went to work, Mr. Ell

The murmuring among the employees grew louder. “Miss Sinclair, we'd appreciate your cooperation. We can explain everything at the station.” The officer said to Anna. Anna shook her head, taking a small step backwards. “I'm not going anywhere until you tell me what this is about. I just arrived at work, and suddenly there are three police officers waiting around my desk. You can't expect me to follow you without an explanation.” she said. One of the officers exchanged a glance with his colleague before reaching into his pocket. “Your ex-husband, Jacob Williams, filed a complaint against you this morning.” the officer said. Anna's lips parted. “He reported that you assaulted his pregnant partner yesterday and threatened her life.” For several seconds, Anna couldn't speak. Then she let out a short, disbelieving laugh. “I'm sorry, what?” “You heard me, ma'am.” “He's lying!” Anna exclaimed, her voice rising. “I didn't touch that woman! I didn't threaten anybody. Wha
