Natalie’s POV

Our eyes met. I scanned his face... cold, unreadable, with no hint he was planning to answer me.

“Fine,” I muttered. He just took my arm and started walking, like we were late for something we weren’t.

He didn’t say a word until we got to the car. And then… nothing again. Just the sound of the engine and the occasional blinker click.

I sat there, arms crossed, waiting for him to at least ask what Nathan had said. He didn’t.

Fine. I could play quietly too. But my brain didn’t get the memo.

Why was Nathan even there that night… And why was he the one who shot Brandon?

If he really had nothing to do with it, how did he show up at the perfect time, like he knew exactly when it would happen?

And what does he know about me? The way he talks, it’s like he’s got my entire identity on file and could drop it like a bomb anytime he feels like it. No warning and no mercy.

I have a million questions, and I could’ve almost gotten the answers… but the second I felt the truth creeping

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 45 – She Was... Right

Brandon’s POVI’ve been irritable lately. Seeing Nathan and Natalie standing so close had felt like getting punched in the gut. It was the same feeling I’d had years ago when I learned my father had another illegitimate son.Nathan has always been the golden one. Even when we were kids, my father would watch him like he was some long-lost heir who’d finally come to save the family name.At the banquet, it had been the same scene all over again. Father applauding Nathan like his arrival was the best thing that had ever happened to this family. I could still hear the words, as sharp as the crystal glass he’d been holding.“You’re nowhere near as good as Nathan.”It wasn’t new, but it still burned. And now… Natalie.Last night, in that hallway, I’d walked in on her standing far too close to him. They weren’t touching, but they didn’t have to be. The look on her face, like she actually listened to him was enough. It was the same kind of attention I’d been trying to get from her for w

Natalie’s POVI squinted, brow furrowed, making sure he could see every ounce of my frustration.“I didn’t expect you to be this unfair.”I said, each word clipped. “Guess I was wrong.”He didn’t even flinch, which somehow irritated me more. At least if he looked guilty or surprised, I could feel like I’d scored a point. But no... he just looked like this was a meeting he hadn’t agreed to attend. His head lifted slightly. “Unfair?”“You sided with Vivian.” My arms were folded tight, like I had to keep my frustration from spilling out. “Don’t even bother with the ‘it’s business’ excuse. You sided with her because you like her.”The words were out before I could stop them and I instantly hated how they sounded like I was jealous. Which was ridiculous. I wasn’t jealous. No!At least, I didn’t think I was. But I also couldn’t explain why my chest felt tight just saying it.He leaned back in his chair, watching me like I was making a ridiculous claim. “That’s what you think?”“That’s what

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 42 – Misunderstood Us

Natalie’s POVIt hit like a bomb, like someone dumped a bucket of ice down my spine.I shook my head and swallowed hard. I realized I wasn’t ready to hear the answer I thought I wanted. I forced a tight smile to keep my face steady and quickly changed the topic.“Were you involved in the kidnapping?” I asked, straight to the point. His smile didn’t move. “No.”“Cameras were cut that night.”“I heard.”“And you were conveniently around,” I added.“I’m conveniently around a lot.”I stared at him. He stared back. He didn’t blink.“Okay,” I said slowly. “So if not you, then who?”“I don’t know,” he said. “But I know who wants credit for it.”“Not what I asked.”“I know,” he said, still maddeningly calm.I took a breath, eyeing him carefully. “But how do you know? Why were you there?”He leaned in, close enough for me to catch the faint scent of his cologne, and smirked. “I told you, I know everything.”And there it was again... the goosebumps. Not the good kind, either. There was somethi

  • Divorce and Regret: Chasing My Famous Lawyer Ex-Wife   Chapter 41 – He Knows Me

Natalie’s POVThe drive was quiet. No music, no small talk, just the sound of the AC and Brandon’s fingers tapping the steering wheel like they were working out an argument.“You don’t have to come,” he said finally.“You already asked,” I said. “And I already said yes.”“If it gets weird, we leave.”“It’s a party. It’s always weird.”That got me the smallest smile before we pulled into Nathan’s venue. It wasn’t just big... it was showy. Marble floors, glass walls, chandeliers the size of my old apartment. Inside was a flood of black suits and designer gowns. I spotted faces I’d only ever seen on business channels or the news... CEOs, board members, and a senator or two.If Nathan really invited this lineup, his network wasn’t small.A hostess guided us to the main room. Cameras flashed for someone behind us. Brandon placed a hand at the small of my back, gentle, steering me through the crowd. He introduced me a few times as “our legal counsel” and “the one who fixed our last disast

Natalie’s POVBrandon’s joke stayed with me longer than it should have.“If you were that Natalie Harris, things would be much easier.”He had no idea how close he was to the truth.Back in my office, I stared at the property agreement on my desk.I’d meant to handle this weeks ago, before the kidnapping, before everything spiraled. Now, the paperwork felt heavier and messier.I skimmed through the terms again, trying to focus, but my cousin’s smug voice kept playing in my head. They were so sure they could trick Brandon. So confident that he’d hand over the house without digging deeper.I hated it. The lies and games. The fact that my silence had allowed this to go on.I didn’t want to keep fooling him. Not like this. And more than that, I didn’t want to lose the last bit of dignity I had left. Not by letting a group of strangers claim something they had no right to.I made up my mind. I was going to tell him the truth. That I’m Natalie Harris.I headed toward his office, heart thudd
