Her words were sweet, but all I felt was dread curling in my stomach. I wasn’t her miracle– I was the reason her son was giving up his dreams.

My gaze strayed to Ethan, whose eyes were fixed on me from where he stood.

“You’re also leaving your job, right?” Ethan’s mother pulled away, her face beaming with a cheerful smile. “Don’t worry about finding a new job, I’ve got it all covered. Guess what… Ethan is planning to open a healthcare facility too- I know it was supposed to be a surprise, but I’m so excited!”

I tried hard not to falter, putting on my best smile. “That’s very good.”

“I know, right?” The woman chuckled.

If Ethan is going to build his own hospital, then that means he wasn’t completely giving up on his dreams.

I glanced at him. He smiled half-heartedly.

“Now, go in and wash up, Dear…” His mother hurried me up. “We don’t want the dishes to turn cold.”

I washed up.

Contemplating Ethan’s words earlier, I found myself spacing out in front of the mirror.

  • Divorced To Steal His Heart    229. Numb His Feelings

Ethan’s POV.I could keep on fooling myself… nothing would ever change. It’s either her son or her ex-husband. Do I really stand a chance in her life? Will she ever prioritize me?She’s always torn. And that’s a sign. I’ll always be insignificant. My palm wandered to my chest, rubbing it gently. My heart could rip apart. Heaven knows how hard I’m struggling to stay composed. This isn’t how things are supposed to be.Olivia should be mine. She should have been right from the beginning. I left the apartment and stood outside, inhaling the fresh air. It did nothing to douse the flame inside my heart. It burned, hurting more than I’d hoped it would. The stars were out tonight, glinting against the dark sky. Then a constellation of her face. Is the universe mocking me as well?I walked away without any sense of direction. The Estate was huge, with many similar apartments lining the path. I found myself heading towards the gates. “Dr. Ethan!”Suddenly, someone called my name.I didn’t

  • Divorced To Steal His Heart    227. Never Leave Him

I should’ve felt relieved when he walked out, but instead, I felt like a prisoner caught between two guards- one gentle, one cruel. And neither of them saw me clearly. Theo should realize that it’s easier to forgive than to forget.Ethan shouldn’t be this calm. His lack of response scares me. For once, why can’t he vent his emotions? His hand in mine was steady… but his eyes weren’t. Something behind them flickered– pain? Doubt? I couldn’t tell.He clearly caught me red-handed after I lied and said I had misplaced my phone. But he showed no reaction. What kind of trust does he have in me?What if he just doesn’t care?“I’ve submitted my resignation.” He stated. “I’ll no longer be working here, Olivia.”I swallowed. Why did he have to take this drastic decision? He could stand up and fight for himself. He could sue the hospital for this injustice. “Ethan, are you really resigning?”“I think it’s time I follow Mom’s advice,” He murmured. “The family’s business can not remain idle. I

Should I tell him that he’s actually wrong? His grandfather has been manipulating everything, making him suffer in silence. He makes it look like disobeying his decisions comes with consequences. That could work on anyone, but not Theo. Does he not realize that even his grandfather is afraid of him? However, telling him all that could complicate matters. Theo’s relationship with his grandfather might never be the same again. The Butler might also be implicated. “Which is why I want you to give me a chance to mend my mistakes…” He stroked my palm, his eyes soft and sad. “I’m serious, Olivia. This time around, I’ll love you right.”“Don’t change the topic-”“Nothing will happen to our son…” He smiled, the first-ever genuine smile I’ve seen from him. “Didn’t I go abroad and return fine?”But his going abroad affected his relationships. He was no longer close to his mother. He became a working machine. “You don’t understand, Theo…”“I do…” He leaned in. I didn’t expect him to suddenly

The Butler ended the call, leaving me more helpless than ever. How can I confront Theo with this matter? How can I ask for his help?Of all the names I expected to hear, his was the last. Not after everything he’s done. How could the devil I fled from become my only chance at saving my son?The elevator came to a stop, the doors sliding open. There he was. Theo stood just a few steps ahead, his eyes narrowed as he made a phone call- one hand inside his pocket. My heart raced. I swallowed, rubbing my trembling fingers on my sleeves. As if sensing my presence, Theo glanced in my direction. His lips curled up, and a devilish smile formed on his face. “Let me guess. You’ve been looking for me.” He dropped his phone and walked forward. Before the elevator doors closed again, I stepped out, controlling the fury inside me. If only I could wipe that smile off his face. “Isn’t it more than a coincidence that we always walk into each other?” He stopped in front of me. “I think the univer

  • Divorced To Steal His Heart    224. The Only Way

I shouldn’t be standing here sulking.I should look for that evil man and give him a piece of my mind.Theo needs to know that the world doesn’t revolve around him. No matter what he does, it won’t make me go back to him. Ethan hadn’t done him any wrong. How could he go to this extent to hurt him? How could he be so heartless?Didn’t Alisha say that he personally gave her my things? He must still be in the hospital and probably is with his mother right now. I hadn’t taken three steps yet, and my phone rang. The Butler’s name flashed on the screen.I answered the call and resumed walking towards the elevator. “Young Miss, I hope you’re not busy. I can call you later.”From the looks of it, the Butler wants to tell me something important. He has never called me suddenly before. “What’s the matter?” I entered the elevator and tapped the number buttons. “Is Dave alright? How’s Grandpa?”“They’re both fine…” The Butler replied. “Actually, there’s a secret I should share with you. You’
