Chapter 1: Caught in the Act

Amelia's POV

I walked into the luxurious hotel, clutching the file tightly against my chest. I still couldn't understand why Demian had asked me to bring it here instead of the company. Pulling out my phone, I reread his message.

"Bring the file to Room 207."

"So I wasn't mistaken," I murmured before slipping my phone back into my purse.

As I approached the reception, a young woman dressed neatly in a black suit looked up from her computer and greeted me with a polite smile. "How may I help you, ma'am?"

"I’m here to see Mr Demian Carter."

She typed for a few seconds before looking up again.

"Mr. Carter is in Room 207. Take the elevator to the fifth floor, then turn left. You'll find it at the end of the hallway."

"Thank you."

I headed toward the elevator and pressed the button for the fifth floor. When the doors slid open moments later, I stepped into the quiet hallway. The sound of my heels echoed against the polished marble floor as I searched for the room number.

Finally. Room 207.

I reached for the doorknob and frowned when it turned without resistance. Why isn't it locked? Pushing the door open, I stepped inside. The suite was enormous, complete with a spacious living room.

"Demian?" I called softly.

Silence.

As I scanned the room, something on the floor caught my attention. A red dress. Next to it lay a pair of women's high heels. Confusion washed over me as I picked up one of the shoes. Did I come to the wrong room?

Just then, a muffled voice drifted from the bedroom. My heart skipped a beat. It was Demian. I couldn't make out his words, so I took another cautious step. Then another voice reached my ears. A woman's voice. One I knew all too well.

Roselle. My sister.

The color drained from my face. "No..." I breathed, shaking my head. "Please... don't let this be what I'm thinking."

With trembling hands, I crept toward the half-open bedroom door and peeked inside. That’s when my

world stopped. There on the bed, was my husband and my sister, wrapped in each other's arms, tangled beneath the sheets, while their clothes lay scattered carelessly across the floor. The shoe slipped from my fingers and landed on the floor. This can’t be happening. It had to be a dream.

Before I realized what I was doing, I shoved the door open.It slammed loudly against the wal and they both froze.

Roselle snatched the blanket over herself while Demian turned toward me, surprise flashing across his face.

"W-What..." My throat tightened. "What is happening here?"

Demian climbed out of bed and quickly pulled on his boxers. "Amelia..." he said, taking a cautious step toward me. "Please, listen to me."

I backed away. "Listen to what?" I demanded. "That my husband has been sleeping with my sister behind my back?"

The room fell silent. After a long moment, Demian sighed. "I was going to tell you today anyway."

"Tell me what?" I asked. "That one sister isn’t enough for you, so you went for the other?"

He held my gaze without the slightest trace of guilt. "Amelia, for the past five years, you've done everything you could to save this marriage."

I stared at him, unable to understand where he was going with this.

"You woke up early every morning to prepare my breakfast. You waited for me every night, even when I never came home. You remembered every anniversary and every birthday, hoping I'd finally notice you." His expression remained cold. "So tell me... did any of that change anything?"

I couldn't answer.

"Did I ever come home and say I missed you? Did I ever hold you? Did I ever treat you like my wife?"

Every question drove another crack through my heart.

"I thought..." My lips trembled. "I thought if I kept trying then one day you'd finally love me."

A cold laugh escaped him. "No. You were wrong."

He walked back to the bed and slipped an arm around Roselle's waist. "I never touched you because I was never attracted to you. The only woman I've ever loved is Roselle."

Roselle leaned against him without a word. She looked at me with complete indifference, as though my heartbreak meant nothing to her.

My chest tightened. "If you've always loved her..." I whispered. "Then why did you marry me?"

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Demian's lips.

"Because..." He paused, watching the confusion on my face. "I didn't have a choice.”

"What do you mean you didn't have a choice?" I shouted.

"I didn't force you to marry me, Demian. You had a choice!"

Demian ignored me as though I were nothing more than an inconvenience. I turned toward Roselle who was watching me with an unsettling calmness. There was no guilt in her eyes, no regret. If anything, she seemed satisfied to see me hurting. Something inside me snapped. I marched toward Demian and grabbed him away from Roselle. Both of them stared at me in surprise.

Before he could react, my palm struck his cheek. "That's for all the pain you've caused me!" I cried.

I slapped him again. "And that's for everything I've done to save this marriage!"

I raised my hand to strike him a third time, but this time, Demian caught my wrist. His face hardened as he glared at me. "Enough."

I struggled against his grip, tears burning my eyes.

He released my wrist and took a step back. "Since you're here, let's get this over with."

My heart pounded. "What are you talking about?"

Without answering, Demian turned toward the bedside table and pulled open the drawer. He reached inside and took out a thick envelope.

"What is that?" I whispered.

Demian turned back to me, the envelope firmly in his hand. "Something you should have received a long time ago.”
