~Althea's POV

I heard a knock on my door about twenty minutes after Alaric left, and by the sound of it, I already knew who it was. Nobody in this place knocked like that, two short, sharp taps that somehow still managed to sound impatient.

I crossed the room, still wrapped in that blanket and towel— don't ask why I haven't put on clothes yet— and pulled the door open. Sera stood there, her back straight as usual, and her face giving absolutely nothing away. But there was something slightly off

  • Divorcing My Alpha Husband For His Uncle   55. Gaining His Trust

~SeraHis room was bigger than I expected. Decorated with dark wood and heavy furniture. It was the kind of space that made you remember who you were talking to the second you walked in.Even his candles were fancy. Tsk. Show off.I hovered near the door, wringing my hands, as I let my shoulders fall. "I do—don't know if it's my place to say this," I said, keeping my voice small and uncertain."Speak." He ordered, his tone leaving no room for arguments. "Nobody will harm you here. Not even me."My gaze dropped, darting around while my fingers pulled at my shirt sleeve, aiming to look distraught, and then I dropped straight to my knees in a soft thud, my palms planted on the floor."Your kindness knows no bounds, Alpha," I praised, head bowed so low it was nearly touching the ground. "But a breeder like me, kneeling in front of you, I'm not even worthy of speaking in your presence."I could feel him getting irritated above me, then his weight shifted, and his breathing sharpened. Good

  • Divorcing My Alpha Husband For His Uncle   54. Sera's Plan (III)

~SeraShit.I rushed around the nearest corner and pressed my back to the wall. I don't even know if this was a good hiding spot, but I just knew that I couldn't be standing in that hallway when he got there.Their footsteps got closer until Halter and his Beta appeared, speaking in low tones, and then they stopped.I peeked, seeing the small frown on their faces as they looked around, their noses high, sniffing the air.Shit. I think they got my scent.I leaned on the wall, my palm flat against my chest as my heart thumped so loud I was sure they could hear it too.Keep walking, you two. There's nothing here to see. Just keep walking. A few seconds passed with my breath stuck in my throat. Then Halter grunted, “Must be the damn breeders.”I let out a small sigh as they continued their conversation. I slid a little closer to the edge of the wall so I could hear better."She's getting worse by the day," Halter said. "The healers can't tell me anything useful. I give her a month, maybe

  • Divorcing My Alpha Husband For His Uncle   53. Sera's Plan (II)

~SeraI shifted on my feet, eyeing whatever was going on here, but I said nothing.Gods… I really didn't come here to watch a grown woman heave blood into a bowl, but I kept my face stoic and my mouth shut. Keeping every snide comment in check. She retched again, and I turned away, scrunching my nose, and the sound of it hitting the container made me gag.Oh mother, what did you put me into? I turned to her again, almost failing to hide my disgust. What a weak Luna. Her face had gotten paler, and I almost rolled my eyes when I caught sight of her eyes; of course she's deformed. Mother didn't mention that.Tsk.. tsk.. tsk…I almost smirked at the sheer irony of it. A blind Luna married to a man obsessed with having an heir to the extent of seeking out countless breeders.Poetic. But in a sad, pathetic sort of way.She straightened slowly, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, and turned her face toward me with an accuracy that shouldn't have been possible for someone who couldn't

  • Divorcing My Alpha Husband For His Uncle   52. Sera's Plan (I)

~Sera ~HOURS EARLIER~ I pushed my door open, and my mother was already waiting for me in my room, which told me she already knew why Alaric had called me earlier. She always knew, somehow. But I didn't care. As long as she provided me with a solution to this fucking mess. "You're not going with her," she said, before I'd even fully stepped in. "Well, that's the assignment; I must go with her.” I deadpanned, rolling my eyes in annoyance. "Forget the assignment." She crossed the room and closed the door behind me with a sharp expression, the way I recognized from every important conversation we'd ever had. "This is your chance to get rid of her." I frowned. "What are you talking about? What chance?” "The pack she's being sent to." My mother's lip curved, as if she were satisfied with the information she was about to share. "Alpha Halter. Do you know who his niece is?" I tilted my head, not knowing where or who she was hinting at. "Vespera Darkmoon." Something in me

  • Divorcing My Alpha Husband For His Uncle   51. Investigations

~Alaric“There needs to be a need to build a larger Silo for grains—” An elder rambled on for the past thirty minutes, and I tuned him out, leaning into my chair with my head propped up against my fist and my elbow braced on the arm of the chair, letting him talk while nodding like I was listening. But I wasn't. Barely. My eyes were fixed somewhere in the middle of the hall past the man currently droning on about grain reserves, and my mind was three places at once, none of which involved grains. These past few days without Althea had been stressful, for both my wolf and me. We had serious work done and about to do.I'd stationed four of my most trusted maids in Althea's quarters before she left, keeping her rooms occupied and moving. They left the lights on at the right hours, meals ordered and returned, so that anyone watching from outside would assume she was still here. And I also was running the guard deaths over in my head instead of listening to grain projections.Luckily, w

  • Divorcing My Alpha Husband For His Uncle   50. Compromised

~AltheaI've been compromised…And thrust into the unbearable life of a breeder. But for the other breeders, I don't know what fate awaits them. Now, soaking in a warm bath they put me in, which I barely noticed. My mind was already somewhere else entirely.Halter was Vespera's uncle. That was the thing I kept circling back to no matter what else was happening around me. Vespera's uncle.Which meant the moment Nolan realized I was no longer in Darkmoor- and he would surely do- it wouldn't take long for that information to travel from him to Vespera. And then, I'd be in serious trouble. And another part of my problem: Sera was still missing. It was eating at the back of my mind. Was she taken against her will? Did Alpha Halter get to her? Is she in trouble?I don't know, and that's the worst!I needed to wrap this up. Fast.I already had what I came for. The dead breeders, the breach of contract, the blind Luna, everything that told me something deeply wrong had taken root here long b
