THE WOMAN IN WHITE

Elena's POV

"Are you safe?"

The words hit me harder than the gunshots outside and I stood where I was and I couldn't breathe.

A few seconds ago, Damien was looking into my eyes, a few seconds ago, his hand was on my face.

Now...

He was asking another woman if she was safe.

Sophia.

I lowered my head, maybe nothing had changed after all, maybe I was only fooling myself.

I heard Damien speak again.

"Stay where you are."

He paused.

"No. Don't come here."
