Ethan’s POV
I stared at Emma, my step-sister and Alex's mother, standing at my door. Judging by the look on her face and her decision to come to a house she'd never been to before, it looked like she had important business. "What is it?" I asked, opening the door wider for her. There was no need for me to greet her or say hello, as our relationship as step-sisters had never been good. I watched as she walked into my house, put her bag on the sofa and sat there without me asking, like this was her home. "I heard the news about you and Sarah." Ah, so she wanted to discuss Sarah with me. I averted my eyes and sat down right on the sofa across from her. Emma, on the other hand, sat where she was with her annoying behavior. He glanced around, with a condescending gaze, then smiled haughtily. Maybe she felt better than me. "What are you planning to do with her?" Her questions were probing, the expression on her face made it clear that she didn't believe a word I said. I folded my legs, acting casually in front of her. Because to me, whatever her intentions were wouldn't make me change my attitude toward her. "I'm just saving her from your son's outrageous behavior." I'm sure Emma must know what Alex did to Sarah. There was no way that this controlling woman didn't know what was going on with the people closest to her. But even so, seeing that Emma didn't punish or make Alex admit his mistake in front of Sarah, meant that the woman didn't care about his situation. Emma smiled sarcastically in front of me, her eyes looking at me like she had managed to assess and know me well, even though I was sure none of her assessments of me were correct, because she was filled with devious thoughts that only made me her enemy. Her eyes looked at me sharply. "You don't need to interfere with their affairs. Whatever Alex did, it has nothing to do with you." Of course, no. But that's if Alex hadn't approached Sarah in the first place. I've had enough of Emma's son's asshole-like attitude. The same goes for Emma who is no less terrifying than Alex. Both of them had cunning minds and a desire to manipulate everything. "She is currently my patient. I am responsible for her until her recovery." I will do the best I can to protect her. I honestly have regrets towards Sarah. Seeing Sarah, made me think of my mother who got the same treatment as her, from my father. I want to save her, so that she doesn't have to experience the same thing in that family, but I can't do it. When I tried to get her, I was too late because Sarah got married to Alex first. The marriage left me unable to do anything, and I preferred to withdraw because it was impossible for me to get close to her again. "Nonsense!" Emma replied to my words sarcastically. "I know you were trying to do something behind my back by approaching her. There are many doctors in this place who can handle it, and it doesn't have to be you!" I understood what she meant, Emma was in a state of alert. Something had probably happened to make her feel pressured to take a stand. "I'm not asking for your permission to treat him, and for all I know, Sarah no longer wants anything to do with your son either. She's asking for a divorce from Alex because what Alex did hurt her so much." This was definitely not something she didn't know. Emma stood up from her spot, her eyes looking at me sharply and angrily. "I'm warning you not to go near her again, or I'll make sure you never get any rights to the family fortune." I'm taking it easy, her threats mean nothing to me. Unlike her and her greedy son, I've managed my life quite well and have the ability to make anything I want happen. I smiled at her, averted my eyes that were taking her threat lightly, and looked back at her. "The door is already open, I won't walk you out," I implied to her. Emma snarled at me, her jaw visibly hardening with her harsh-sounding breath. She looked angry, her face flushed. Her hand grabbed the bag on the sofa, and then she walked out of my place while slamming the door with force. Staring at the closed door with a heavy sigh, I dropped my head back, resting my shoulder against the shoulder of the sofa. My thoughts returned to Sarah. Seeing her made me regret her decision to marry Alex. She probably thought that her life would be happy with that man, not knowing the misery that was actually waiting for her. "I should have given you a warning that day." Maybe this was my fault too. Sarah was stuck with them because she had no idea what they were capable of doing to her, both Alex and Emma only used her for money and power. They never really wanted her and appreciated her existence. I woke up to the ringing of my phone, and on the screen I saw the name of Bill, my father's lawyer, appear. "Yes, what is it Mr. Bill?" I picked up the phone quickly, because right now, Bill was the only person close to Dad. Dad's condition is very bad, his health is gradually declining at his age, I'm afraid he has the worst news that I still don't want to hear. "I wanted to inform you that today, your father has written down the contents of his estate and asked me to inform his children." I put the phone away from my ear, talking about it over the phone I thought was a bit too trivial. But after remembering what it would be like if we were brought together and discussed it together, what Bill did at this time was right. "Okay, say it." I straightened my seat and prepared to listen to him. "Your father told me that whoever can produce the first heir in the family will be entitled to the company and other family assets." Bill surprised me with the content of his message. "That's it?" The message was too short, and he seemed to want us to fight over it. "Yes, Mr. Ethan. That was all he told me to write in his will." I have nothing more to say, I'll take my leave to go back to monitoring the situation of the great lord." He continued his speech. I bowed my head. "Alright, let me know if anything happens to father." I disconnected our phone line, then dropped my body back on the sofa. I didn't fully understand what father's intentions were. I could have ignored the contents of his inheritance, because I wasn't really interested in the wealth that had to be fought over, honestly I could have gotten the same thing if I had tried with my own abilities. But I couldn't let someone like Emma or Alex continue to run the company. There was my mother's hard work in that company, and there was my father's hard work that I couldn't let go to waste at their hands. "The only way is to marry Sarah, get her on my side to take down Emma and Alex together." I muttered under my breath, and then got up from there.Sarah's POV“What do you think of the dress?” I twirled before Lira, who sat casually in her chair, nibbling on something.Lira’s eyes carefully assessed me from head to toe with a serious expression. Then, she motioned with her hand for me to turn around and show the other side. Only after doing so she nodded approvingly. “You look perfect,” she praised me with a satisfied smile. She got up from her seat and walked over to me, her hands gently adjusting a few strands of my hair that were out of place, making me look slightly untidy.“There’s no one more beautiful than you,” she effortlessly complimented me again.I chuckled softly at her words. Then, I turned to face the mirror, seeing myself wrapped in a white mermaid-style satin gown that beautifully accentuated my figure. The dress looked stunning with a long skirt and an elegantly open top. I truly loved it, but I couldn’t help feeling a little self-conscious. “But don’t you think it’s a bit too much?” I asked. From behind me, Ly
Ethan's POV After finishing our meal together, Sarah once again disappeared from sight. I’m sure she’s busy with Edmund now. That little boy has stolen his mother from me. No matter what or where Edmund is her priority, I feel my position has been shifted."Sir, would you like me to prepare some tea?" Emy asked me.I shook my head, intending to return to work for a while, but I changed my mind this time. "No need. Have you seen where Sarah is?""Miss Sarah is in Master Edmund's room, sir. She's putting him to sleep," Emy replied promptly.I figured she'd be there. I remember telling her that Edmund should get used to sleeping in his room. After all, he's old enough. But Sarah said she couldn't bear it and would stay with him until he fell asleep.I then moved toward Edmund's room, right next to mine. "Is he asleep?" I asked Sarah as soon as I entered.I hugged her tightly from behind while gazing at our sleeping son. I rested my chin between Sarah’s shoulder and neck and kissed her s
Ethan povAs soon as they finished eating together, Sarah did not show herself again, to the point that I am sure she must also be busy with Edmund this time. The little boy stole his mother from me, so now, whatever it is and wherever it is, Edmund is her priority, and my position has shifted."Master want me to prepare tea?" Emy asked me.I shook my head. I had originally planned to go back to work for a while, but this time, I canceled my intention. "No need. Where did you see Sarah?""Miss Sarah is in Mr. Edmund's room, sir. she was putting him to sleep." Emy replied immediately.I thought she must be there. I remember telling her to get used to Edmund going to his own bedroom; after all, Edmund was old enough, but Sarah said she couldn't bear it and would stay with him until Edmund fell asleep.I then moved there, walking to the room next to mine. "Is he asleep?" I asked Sarah just as I entered Edmund's room.I walked up to her even though I hugged him from behind. Looking at our
Ethan povAfter Sarah went downstairs to the inn, she needed to stay until her condition completely recovered after giving birth. I was in the room with her still holding her hand and stroking her gently."Do I look ugly?" she suddenly asked about it.I moved my eyebrows up silently, smiling, and shook my head slowly, denying her words. "It's not at all that you always look beautiful in my eyes, yesterday, today, and whenever; it doesn't matter what happens."My eyes looked at her with a gentle glint, and then my hand moved slowly, caressing her hair. Sarah, who just a few hours ago faced the Biggest Thing in her life, looks very beautiful in my eyes right now. You could say she was the most beautiful woman I had ever met. No woman could match her beauty; she was perfect for me."Does it feel so painful?" I looked at her with a fixed gaze and rubbed her cheeks slowly. The woman lying weakly on the bed shook her head slightly. She still looked helpless. "I'm not sure what it would be l
Ethan's POV"Sarah, what's going on? What happened?" I panicked and rushed into the bathroom after hearing her cry. I found Sarah bracing herself against the wall, visibly in pain, stretching her arms.I quickly turned off the faucet, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it around her. She clung to me, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. "I think I'm having contractions... I think it's time.""Time to give birth?" I looked at her, shocked.Even though we had prepared everything and eagerly anticipated this day, I still felt nervous when it finally arrived. I had researched what to do when Sarah went into labor, preparing myself as best as possible. But what you think and face are two very different things. My mind went utterly blank, overwhelmed with panic and fear. I repeatedly took deep breaths to calm myself as I helped Sarah get dressed."Okay, we’re heading to the hospital now. I’m taking you there." Once she was dressed, I lifted her and carried her downstairs, gently placing her in
Sarah's POVEthan immediately adjusted everything accordingly when I heard that we were having a boy. He called the decorators to prepare the room with a baby boy theme.Blue, white, and yellow dominated his chosen colors for the room's design. "Do you like it?" he glanced at me as I stood at the doorway.Meanwhile, Ethan was inside, moving around to arrange everything. He forbade me from entering, saying the smell of the paint was still too strong and could bother my senses. He was right. Even from a distance, I could still see the pungent paint fumes.I smiled and nodded. "Yes, I love it. I'm sure our little one will love it too. If he knew his dad prepared all of this for him, he’d be so happy."During my pregnancy, Ethan seemed happy, but his emotions during the first and second trimesters were quite complex. He was joyful, yet at the same time, he looked anxious, worried, and full of confusion. He expressed his concerns by forbidding me from doing many things and becoming overly
