Chapter 3

No words.

No reactions.

In a split second, all the enforcers’ cold bodies were lying on the floor, bathing in their own pool of blood.

And Kyle stood over them, eyes flaming with a fury that made me instinctively coil backwards.

His movement was fast, his sharp claws elongated, now dripping with blood.

When he stepped forward, I almost believed I would end up just like the enforcers.

My heart raced, my entire body shaking.

But Kyle suddenly scooped me up in his arms, gently, carefully, as if afraid of hurting me by holding on too tight.

In that moment, I almost had the delusion that the man who had showered me with love and care was back.

If not for the deep-seated hatred in his eyes as he stared at me, I would have foolishly believed that all that had transpired before now, right from the Luna ascension ceremony, was a dream.

Despite having so many things to say, I remained silent in his arms.

Despite my heart seething with rage and the feeling of betrayal.

Kyle took me inside the Villa, went upstairs, and kicked open the door to one of the extra rooms.

This room was way smaller than the master bedroom we’d shared for three months.

He dumped me on the bed, and without a word, he turned around.

Moments later, three housemaids came in and started cleaning my wounds.

They were very gentle as well, even blowing on the spots whenever I winced.

They gave me food. They brought new clothes, urging me to wash up and change.

But throughout the special treatment, they were acting strangely.

None looked into my eyes. And although their actions were gentle, they did everything in haste as if they couldn’t wait to get away from me.

“The Alpha only commanded us to make sure she isn’t physically hurt. We’re not allowed to say anything to her.”

I overheard them whispering to each other as they all walked out of the room.

As soon as they did that, they locked the door so I couldn’t escape.

No doubt, when those enforcers attacked me, Selene must have felt the same pain, and that was why Kyle suddenly appeared and saved me, even killing his most trusted bodyguards.

My lip curved into a bitter smile as I sat near the window, watching the activities going on outside.

But I refuse to stay here.

Not in his dungeon or inside the Villa. It was all the same prison. If not, if Kyle insisted on keeping me here, he would be seeking his own destruction early.

My wolf’s death wouldn’t be for nothing!

I grabbed a hairpin from the vanity mirror, my heart racing as I stared at it for a few seconds.

And then I made up my mind and stabbed my arm with the pin, avoiding any vein that would cause excessive loss of blood.

The sharp pain shot through my arm, causing me to wince.

I closed my eyes, biting down on my lips, to bear with it.

In the next minute, the door was kicked open with a bang, his dangerous aura suffocating the air way before he appeared.

“Are you crazy!?” Kyle barked at me, his eyes flaming with fury. “How dare you hurt Selene!?”

He closed in, his claws elongated.

But he stopped right before they reached my throat as if changing his mind about strangling me.

I chortled, staring into his eyes, holding back my emotions.

Despite the deep hurt in my heart, I stated in a calm voice, “Let me walk away alive. Set me free, and I will never use this bond to hurt your precious mate. Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to kill myself. I know if I die, she dies too.”

His eyes darkened, the deep-seated hatred swirling like a storm. “Why should I grant you freedom? It’s not like I like seeing your face, but I don't trust you.”

I smiled. “Fine. Then I’ll keep hurting myself until her fragile body can no longer bear it. If I kill myself, I have nothing to lose.”

“Let’s see how you’ll try that once I have you tied up.” Kyle scoffed, twitching his lips.

He must be underestimating my threat.

He must be thinking that I wouldn’t be able to do it.

“Besides, if I set you free, you have nowhere to go. Even your Pack doesn’t want you.”

He did not need to remind me of that. But my freedom mattered right now, more than anything.

If I remained locked up here, how would I be able to bring him down to his knees and make him regret ever using and betraying me?

“That is why it will be easy for me to kill myself…” I stared him in the eyes, reading every emotion that flickered in them.

He clearly didn’t want to let me go. Well, I’d already made up my mind.

The airpin was still gripped between my fingers, steadied against the back of my wrist.

He noticed it.

He knew what would happen if I stabbed.

“If I let you go, never come back!” He warned, grabbing my hand with the airpin. “And if words get to other Packs about what happened, you will regret it.”

I nodded, enduring the pain, and stood up.

If I hadn’t used her life as bait, I bet Kyle wouldn’t have let me go so easily.

He could get rid of me just to silence me, if the side effect from the ritual hadn’t happened.

I turned to the mirror calmly, opened the medical kit the servants had left behind, and started treating my wound.

When I glanced up once, I found him staring at my reflection, still standing behind me with a different emotion in his eyes.

Maybe he expected me to break.

He must have looked forward to me crying and crawling on my knees.

But I’d experienced a way bigger betrayal than this before.

I might not have seen it coming, yet, Kyle betraying me wasn’t as painful as being cast out by my own father.

My life had been nothing but perfect until my eighteenth birthday.

I grew up in Crystal Pack, surrounded by love and pampering.

I never missed my dead mother’s presence for once, who died while bringing me to the world.

My father had been my role model. He’d trained me to take over the Pack someday. He’d groomed me, not only into a fearless fighter, but also a sharp-minded financial strategist who could rule the business world someday.

At eighteen, I already had an MBA in Business and Finance. I graduated at the top of my class.

Everything was perfect until that night after my birthday party.

Selene made that gesture only to drag my attention to it, clearly provoking me. I didn’t waste time before striding forward and grabbing it from her neck. The jewelry grazed her skin, but the pain was fleeting, barely present as I also felt it. However, Selene’s scream shook the walls and she fell, grabbing her neck. “It hurts! I can’t breathe! Kyle, please help!”Kyle caught her before her body touched the floor, his eyes turning dark as he gave me a murderous look. “You must be out of your mind! How dare you hurt her in my presence!?”I scoffed, returned my jewelry to the box, and turned to leave, planning to ignore her staged acting. But Kyle was soon in front of me, blocking my path. “It’s just a stupid jewelry. This is childish!”“Aria, I only intended to borrow it because I found it beautiful,” Selene sobbed, still holding her neck. “Can you please stop hurting me because I’m weak? Please stop taking advantage of my situation. I know you hate me now, and I apologize for every

My father suddenly changed his mind about letting me take over the Pack’s business. He suddenly proposed that I should be married to Alpha Draco, the dark and mysterious Alpha who had done nothing but bully me throughout high school. A ceremony was set. The date was decided without my consent. I didn’t show up and my father decided it was the biggest sin I’d ever committed. He lost a business deal and partnership with Draco’s Pack. Enraged, he disowned and banished me, and I later knew that he had a hand in the assassination of my fated mate. Levi and I only met once, but our hearts synced, and so did our wolves. I expected him to show up the day after my eighteenth birthday, but he vanished into thin air, leaving behind a lingering ache that weakened my wolf. I left without begging a father who had suddenly forgotten what it felt like to lose a fated mate. I’d wandered in the city for two years. I’d worked at restaurants, pubs, and even bars just to earn a living. I would ha

“Throw her at the border. She’s no longer of any use.”Kyle’s voice, emotionless and cruel, was a distant echo in my ears as darkness consumed me. Then a gasp suddenly spread across the crowd, followed by a faint feminine voice. “Kyle, something’s wrong… I feel wrong.”No doubt, that must be Selene’s voice. A second before my consciousness left me, there was a thud, as if someone had fallen right beside me. …I opened my eyes to distant noises in the background. White walls, white ceilings, and tranparent grey curtains hanging over the glass windows. I was supposed to find myself at the border, tossed back into the circle of those morally-deprived rogues. Instead, I’m in the Nightfang Pack’s infirmary. What had happened?A whimper beside me caught my attention. A second bed in the room. Resting on it was a slender, delicate girl with a skin as white as snow, her long hair as dark as the night. I blinked… Selene? This scene felt familiar. Was I pulled back into the night of the li
