LOGIN“Throw her at the border. She’s no longer of any use.”
Kyle’s voice, emotionless and cruel, was a distant echo in my ears as darkness consumed me. Then a gasp suddenly spread across the crowd, followed by a faint feminine voice.
“Kyle, something’s wrong… I feel wrong.”
No doubt, that must be Selene’s voice. A second before my consciousness left me, there was a thud, as if someone had fallen right beside me.
…
I opened my eyes to distant noises in the background. White walls, white ceilings, and tranparent grey curtains hanging over the glass windows.
I was supposed to find myself at the border, tossed back into the circle of those morally-deprived rogues. Instead, I’m in the Nightfang Pack’s infirmary.
What had happened?
A whimper beside me caught my attention.
A second bed in the room. Resting on it was a slender, delicate girl with a skin as white as snow, her long hair as dark as the night.
I blinked… Selene?
This scene felt familiar. Was I pulled back into the night of the life-span transfter ritual? But the ritual took place in an ancestral temple hidden underground in Kyle’s Villa.
“She is awake, Alpha!” A desperate voice interrupted my train of thoughts.
The doors opened. Alpha Kyle stepped in, his mere presence in the room transforming the light atmosphere into a tensed magnetic air, radiating his Alpha aura.
My heart raced for a moment, before reality sank in.
Without sparing a glance my way, Kyle strode to Selene’s bed, his expression a mix of anxiousness and relief, his voice calm and deep with a hint of fear… a hint of compassion. “Will she be fine?”
“I am not certain, Alpha–”
Before the Pack’s Doctor finished answering his question, the air thickened, a murderous aura engulfing the room.
A flash.
Kyle’s claws were soon digging into the man’s neck, his low growls rumbling. “What the hell do you mean you’re not certain? Selene must live! Do everything to make this stop!”
“I’ll do everything, Alpha!” Gasping, the Pack’s Doctor coughed frantically as Kyle released and tossed him across the floor. “B-But… But, there seems to be a mysterious connection between her and Aria. If you need clear answers, the Pack’s spiritual leader–”
“If the Pack’s spiritual leader were around, would I be wasting time here with an incompetent?”
Kyle softened his voice, returning his gaze to Selene, whose eyes were open but seemingly too weak to speak. “The spiritual leader only appear once in a full moon. Do I need to wait that long to cure my mate and end her torment?”
“Alpha…” The Pack’s Doctor staggered from the floor. “I can only treat the Luna’s injuries. To keep her safe before the spiritual leader appears, Aria must not get hurt.”
That was when my presence in the room finally mattered.
However, Kyle stared at me not with confusion but disgust and hatred that made my nerves coil. “If I knew there would be side-effect, I would have avoided any mistakes… at all cost.”
He emphasized the word ‘mistake,’ the hatred in his eyes deepening. As if whatever had happened was entirely my fault.
Turned out the life-span transfer ritual didn’t go as they wanted. My weakness must have caused Selene’s collapse.
Was that the side-effect?
That explained why I didn’t wake up at the border. It explained why I was still alive, receiving treatment in the Pack’s infirmary, in fact.
My body was still weak, totally drained of energy, but the excruciating pain was gone. Although remnants of the pain lingered in my heart.
Kyle scooped Selene up in his arms.
He walked out without turning back, leaving a cold emotionless command. “Lock her up. She’s not allowed to escape.”
His bodygaurds, the enforcers he had single-handedly trained. With a single grab, one of them pulled me off the bed.
They tossed me inside a cell in the basement of the Villa, harsh enough to show their disgust, but soft enough to prevent any injuries as my body hit the floor.
The metal doors closed with a bang.
I sat, leaning against the wall, gasping for breathe. Kyle’s image, holding Selene like a fragile vessel, flashed in my mind, the deep feeling of heartbreak surfacing.
I wiped my tears furiously before they fell.
The cell was dark with only little light streaming inside from the cracked wall surface. The stench in the room, moist and damp, suffocated the air, making my breathing difficult.
Someone or something must have rotted here.
Spending another minute here might cost me my life. I can’t let that happen.
“Let me out! Kyle, you asshole!” Summoning up all my energy, I screamed at the top of my voice. “You’re such a coward monster! Luring a weak girl into your selfish schemes! Do you call yourself an Alpha, the ruler of a Pack!?”
My screams echoed.
Rushed footsteps were approaching.
“Alpha Kyle!” I didn’t stop. “If you’re not coward, face me and repeat those things you said! I was weak, desperate and naive, well I was only being generous and caring. The real weak person is you who had to put on a facade to get what he wants! You deserve to be cursed by the Moon Goddess!”
“Are you tired of your life!?”
The enforcers’ voices echoed down the dark hallway before they appeared. They kicked the metal doors open, barged into the cell, pinning me to the floor.
Cursing the Alpha was like a death sentence. One could neither do it in public or private. A single curse could cause the entire family of that person to be wiped out.
The enforcers kicked, grabbed my hair, pressed my face to the wall. They scratched my skin, ripped off my clothes, their sinister chuckles resounding.
“You will regret speaking ill of the Alpha!”
“But before we kill you, let us show you how it feels to be wanted by every man in the Pack!”
“You were just a worthless banished girl who no longer has a wolf! You should be begging for mercy instead of insulting the Alpha!”
Their laughter echoed.
Holding myself together despite the pain, I bit hard on my lips, tasting blood to avoid passing out.
“Look at those curves.”
“It’s no wonder the Alpha found it easy to use her.”
“We only wondered how the Alpha felt, marking her. Now we’ll get to experience it.”
The Enforcers closed in, eyes glinting with mischief, radiating pheromones, a deep lust that suffocated the air.
Pressed against the wall, fear clawed my heart for a moment. One of them stretched his hand forward, however, the metal doors were kicked open again, the startling sound freezing them.
Kyle stood there, his eyes boiling with rage. A murderous energy followed as he stepped in, and the Enforcers trembled in their spots.
Aria’s POVWe were supposed to meet “Him” right? Why did Draco drag me back to my father’s place of all places?Just yesterday, the same man tried to kill me in the presence of half-entire the world. Draco was unpredictable, and inconsiderate.I got it that he gave no damn about my feelings… but please–A grab jolted me out of my thoughts; so tight and sudden the strong fingers instantly closed around my arm. I had no time to react when the person yanked me forward, causing me to collide into the hard frame of his body. My heart raced inside my chest. For a moment, I believed Draco had come out to annoy me more, only for me to lift my head… for my eyes to be met with familiar dark ones. This scumbag. What was he doing in this place?“So the Supreme Alpha’s daughter didn’t fire you after all…” Kyle’s lips lifted faintly. “I thought after stripping you naked, you would be thrown at the borders to be devoured by the rogues.”Urgh!I wriggled my hand to break free, rolling my eyes a
“Greetings to the Supreme Alpha. Father-in-law, it's a pleasure to meet you again.”When I approached and greeted, only the Supreme Alpha answered with a nod.As for Selene’s father, he stared daggers at me, his eyes flaming with anger. Selene sat beside him, silently lowering her head.“Kyle Sinclair, did I make a mistake by entrusting my daughter to you?” He asked, his voice low with controlled rage.My fingers curled by my sides. I loosened them before they clenched into fists. If he weren't Selene’s father, I wouldn't tolerate just anyone addressing me this way. After all, he was only a Beta.“Father-in-law, I’ll explain—”“What explanation is there to give?” He interrupted me. “Last night, everyone was at the ceremony except you guys. I later found out that it was because you took Selene to a dangerous place where she got poisoned!”I looked down, avoiding his eyes.So that was it.I worried too soon, thinking he'd summoned me because of that thing. From the looks of it, he hadn
Kyle’s POV I searched for almost half a day.I asked the hotel security to check the surveillance. No unusual activity detected.Which meant… it wasn't a normal abduction. My car was standing there, perfectly intact, with Selene inside it.Then she was gone.I couldn't recall having a feud with any of the supernatural beings recently. Who dared to abduct her?Frustrated, I paced back and forth in front of my car. Lost at what to do next, I dialed a contact.“Finally remembered me, Buddy?” Zane drawled, his voice heavy with intoxication.I sighed. “I need your help.”“You’ve asked for too many favors in a short time. Are you the great Kyle I used to know?”Right.Things just kept on going south ever since I stepped foot in this city.“Selene has gone missing.” Ignoring the taunting in his tone, I sighed. “She's too weak and fragile. And from the looks of it, the person who abducted her isn't ordinary.”“Hmmm.” Zane hummed faintly. “Now that's interesting. Who have you offended recentl
Draco’s gaze lingered on my features longer than necessary when I mentioned “Him.” But his eyes betrayed no emotion. If not, they were too focused as if reading through me.I kept a blank face, my posture steady, meeting his gaze with a calm intensity that masked my emotions.“Fine.” He stepped forward, lifting his fingers to wipe something from my lips. “Remember, Aria, whatever you do, do not bring a mess to this past.”His words were a warning. He might be sensing that I was about to land myself in trouble. But Draco underestimated me.“I'm not a troublemaker.”His lips twitched faintly with a hint of a smile. He opened his mouth to respond, and from all indications, he had the perfect comeback. In the end, he didn't say it due to mysterious reasons. Not because he cared about my feelings. We just finished bantering, right?“Go on.” He nodded towards the stairs. “I won't be waiting after ten minutes.”Ten minutes. That wasn't enough time for me to wash up and get ready. But my mi
Aria’s POVThe Next Morning. The rumbling in my stomach jolted me awake.I didn't eat throughout yesterday. Didn't even drink a drop of water. Now my stomach was rumbling like the drums of war, my vision so blurry I could faint from the intense hunger.I jumped down from the bed, slipped on my sleepers, and rushed straight downstairs.Didn't care about washing my face or even glancing at my messy appearance in the mirror. The rollercoaster of events yesterday, along with the conflict and drama, must have messed with my nervous system. The hunger wasn't just from lack of eating. Funny how I'd dropped asleep the moment we arrived home last night.“Good morning, Luna.” Many voices greeted me concurrently when I arrived downstairs. There seemed to be a lot of servants inside the house this morning,Which was weird. But I didn't stop to assess what was going on in my haste to reach the dining room as soon as possible.Luckily, the food was ready.I dug in as fast as I could despite feeling
Kyle's POV Damnit! I was late!Glancing at my wristwatch, a wave of anger and irritation surged through me.It was 10:00 PM. The ceremony was already over. Yet, here I was, waiting for Selene to wake up.Someone must have spiked her drink last night. One of those hungry bastards. Not only did they have the audacity to hurt my mate, but they also spiked my drink as well. I woke up this morning to find us both lying on the rooftop, side by side.Last night, I wanted to leave immediately after hearing about Dickson’s death. Those scumbags, however, urged us to stay.I should have known from the mischievous looks in their eyes that they were up to no good.Up to this time, Selene hadn't awakened yet. She'd slept for a whole day straight. That was weird.Did something else happen to her?I couldn't get my mind off that question even though the doctors had assured me;She was fine. Her system was just too weak to handle the potency of the intoxicant. Why was my mind still unsettled then?
I was wrong. The palm wasn't rough. It was a hankie instead which gave off a sweet fragrance. As it seeped into my senses, everything around me turned into a blur. The urge to sleep was overwhelming, and my consciousness left me in no time. When I opened my eyes, the sunlight blinded my vision.I f
I gulped, taking several steps back.He was clearly lying.I knew him too well to realize that his smile meant trouble, and his kind words meant an invitation to destruction.“Dickson, look! You and I have no business with each other.”“Oh, really?” He raised an amused brow, stepping forward as I s
Aria’s POV Purity Penthouse Lights glowed from afar, illuminating the entire neighborhood. Purity Penthouse stood on the outskirts of the city on a large property of its own.I'd only heard about it.Never had I stepped foot in it before. As soon as it came into view, my first reaction was an ins
The silence that followed stretched for a few seconds, long enough to make me doubt if he’d heard what I said. Then he turned slowly. And for the first time since Draco appeared, something in his composure shifted. Just enough to reveal the flicker of emotion in his eyes. But that emotion was gone
