Chapter7-Yes, the marriage can finally end.

MICHEALA's pov

Noah's mother sneered at me as I joined them for dinner, shortly after leaving the infirmary.

"Why is she joining us?" She asked her son, who simply sneered as he drew out Sasha's chair for her to sit down.

Then he sat on the chair between Sasha and I.

"It's dinner. Let's just eat in peace, okay?" Noah replied and began serving some food on his plate.

I quietly ignored the woman and began serving my food as well. But Noah's mother refused to be ignored.

"If I were you, I'd let her eat in the servant's quarters. What do we need to put up with her presence at the family table?"

I slowly turned to look at her, and caught her cold look before she reached for her glass of wine.

"You've done nothing but look down on me since you met me." I said calmly, despite how irritated I was with her behavior. But the clock was ticking, and soon enough, I wouldn't have to put up with her behavior. 

“Look down on you?” The woman gasped, mock shock written all over her face. “Now why would I look down on a lowlife like you?” She spat.

“Mother…” Noah said quietly, while Sasha just snickered. “Can we just eat?”

“Your mother has a point son. She simply sees the girl for what she is.” Noah’s father chipped in and I sneered at both husband and wife.

"You’ve convinced yourselves that I’m not worth much. But little do you know, that I've single-handedly done so much for this family. You all wouldn't be here if it weren't for me." I added and gave Noah’s mother a pointed gaze.  

“Not like you even deserve one-third of the help I’ve quietly rendered.”

She chuckled derisively as though she couldn't believe her ears.

"You? Done so much for us?" She asked and shook her head, before looking at me directly, a slow mocking smile on her face. "And what have you done exactly? Washed the dishes? Made sure the house is clean? If I'm not mistaken , that's your duty, is it not? Being a housewife and all."

I gritted my teeth together to hold back from giving her a nasty reply, but when I angrily dropped my fork on my plate, she jumped and eyed me coldly.

"You will watch your manners while you're at this table, young lady." She spat and then turned to Noah, "What's wrong with her now?"

Noah turned to look at me, and sighed.

"Michaela, you don't have to make a fuss. She was just asking what you've done for the family that you're trying to make it sound so extraordinary."

I looked up at him and narrowed my gaze.

"A lot more than you or could ever fathom or imagine. But one of these days, you will surely understand." I huffed out.

Just then, Sasha's spoon clattered to the plate, and she began coughing like she was choking on something.

"Help." She choked out, and Noah quickly began patting her back, before reaching for a glass of water for her.

"Here." He said with some urgency, as he brought the glass to her lips. "Drink up."

Noah's mother quickly got up from her chair, and rushed to Sasha's back, patting her shoulder softly as she drank from the glass.

I watched the three of them with disdain.

Sasha had barely even been eating, so I truly wonder what she was choking on. She was probably just trying to divert the attention back to her.

 And obviously, she had been successful.

Once she seemed back to normal, Noah slowly turned to look at me, and he looked quite pissed.

"Look what you've done." He sneered and my mouth fell open in shock.

"Me? What did I do exactly?"

"You upset Sasha with all your nonsense talk about helping this family. But really, what have you even done that you weren't supposed to do? Not to mention that I even give you money monthly for the chores you do in this house?"

His words felt like a slap across my cheek, but I kept my expression placid. After all, he had only ever seen me as the help. Never his wife.

"Perhaps you should ask Sasha what she really choked on, rather than accuse me of nonsense."

"So I'm talking nonsense now, is that?" Noah spat, and I narrowed my gaze at how easily he could twist my words. "If everything I say to you is absolute nonsense, then why stay in this marriage? Why don't we end things right this instant?!"

I gave a one-sided smirk at his threat, before slowly nodding my head.

"You know what, Noah? Why don't we, indeed?" I said quietly and rose from my chair. "It's about damn time anyway."

After all, the time for the resolution of our three year marriage was finally here.
