Badboy

Forbidden Love

“If you’re going to dig your nails into my back to make him watch, sweetheart, at least do it right. Make him think I’m actually tearing you apart.” The Plan: Fake-date the university’s star hockey player to drive my cheating ex-boyfriend, Leon, completely out of his mind with jealousy. It was supposed to be a simple, transactional arrangement. He needs a tutor to keep his GPA high enough to stay on the ice, and I need the ultimate weapon of mass distraction to get revenge on my ex and my backstabbing best friend. The Catch: I didn’t know the arrogant, tatted forward who practically rules the campus arena was him—Lael De La Fontaine. The exact same guy I mistakenly drenched with a bucket of ice water while he was caught in a scandalous hookup with our assistant coach. And the exact same guy who just sat down across from me at my mom’s official engagement dinner. When our parents happily announce their upcoming marriage, the smug, wicked grin on my new stepbrother's face tells me everything I need to know. He has absolutely no intention of letting me off the hook for ruining his shirt—or for discovering his darkest secret. If anything, he’s thrilled. Now, we’re sharing a house by weekend, a library table by afternoon, and a filthy, breathless lie by night. But between the bruising grips on my hips meant for the crowd and the venomous, needy promises he whispers in my ear during "study sessions," the lines of hatred are bleeding together. He’s supposed to be helping me play my ex. So why does it feel like the billionaire's son is rewriting the playbook just to keep me for himself?

Chapter One
“You cheating, back stabbing piece of—“The words died in my throat at the exact second the massive bucket of ice water flew from my hands. It was supposed to be the ultimate, moment of sweet, freezing revenge. I had received the text just ten minutes ago from an anonymous number—a blurry but unmistakable photo of my boyfriend and my best friend kissing right against the lockers near the campus ice rink.Driven by pure blinding fury, I had marched into the arena lobby, grabbed the biggest bucket of melting ice water I could find by the benches, and dumped it right over the making out couple’s head. The Icy water splashed everywhere, completely drenching them. For a long brief second, I felt a rush of absolute satisfaction. Then, the girl gasped, wiping a wet chunk of hair out of her eyes, and my heart completely stopped. That—that wasn’t Chloe. Chloe had long, bleach-blonde hair. This girl had a short, dark bob.And the guy who was currently shaking water from his jaw like a pissed of

Chapter Two
My mind went completely blank, the background noise of the restaurant fading into a sharp, high pitched buzz.No. This has to be a joke. A hallucination from sleep deprivation. But as I stared across the white table cloth, the harsh reality didn’t melt away. Lael didn’t look like a drowned rat anymore. He looked effortlessly handsome, ridiculously expensive, and completely untouchable by the disaster two days ago. The only thing that hadn’t changed was the lethal, and calculating look in his eyes.“Avery, honey, are you alright?” My mother asked, her hand gently touching my arm, anchoring me. She was looking at me like I had seen a ghost.“I…I am fine,” I choked out, forcing my eyes away from Lael to look at his dad.“Richard, this is my daughter, Avery,” my mom introduced proudly, beaming at the man beside Lael. “Avery, this is Richard De La Fontaine. And his son Lael.”“It’s my pleasure to finally meet you, Avery,” Richard said, standing up fully to offer me a warm genuine handshake

Chapter Three
The rest of the dinner passed by in a blur. I barely touch my meal, my appetite totally ruined. Every time I looked up, Lael was watching me like a predator tracking its prey, casually cutting his food or sipping his drink while our parents happily chatted away about wedding venues.By the time Richard ordered dessert, I couldn’t take the suffocating tension anymore. I checked my phone and faked a sudden, terrible headache, and told them I needed to go home early.“Drive safely, sweetie,” my mom said kissing my cheeks. “Get some rest, Avery,” Richard added warmly.Lael didn’t say anything. He just offered me one last lazy, wicked smirk that practically promised he would see me soon. The drive back to my apartment was long and quiet. My hands gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white. My brain was spinning. I could’ve wrap my head around it. Out of all the men in the city, how on earth did my mom land Richard De La Fontaine? He was a literal legend. His face had been

Chapter Four
When Wednesday morning finally rolled in, my stomach was tied in knots. I threw a pair of comfy grey sweatpants, and oversized hoodie, and messy bun, completely lacking energy to care about my outfit. I grabbed my car keys, said goodbye to my mom—who was waiting for the moving truck to arrive and drove to campus.I walked into the first lecture room, the heavy oak doors swinging shut behind me. The room was already half full, the stadium style rows buzzing with the usual morning chatters. I kept my head down, pulling my hood over as I scanned the steps for an empty seat near the top.“Avery! over here!”A loud, piercing voice cut through the noise. My stomach instantly curdled. Sitting in the third row, waving her perfectly manicured hand like nothing had happened, was Chloe. She was pointing at the empty desk right next to her, a bright, fake smile plastered on her face. Are you serious right now? I thought, my jaw tightening as I stared at her. Look at her, acting like she didn’t ju

Chapter Five
He stood there, completely unfazed by my outburst. He tower over me, his hands casually shoved into his jacket pocket. A slow, infuriating smug smirk spread across his face as he looked down at me, his eyes dancing with amusement.“First of all drop the attitude, Valerie,” he murmured, his gravelly voice dropping lower so only I could hear it.“My name is Avery,” I hissed through my teeth.“I don’t really care,” he replied smoothly, leaning down just an inch closer into my personal space, smelling like winter air and expensive cologne. “Second of all, you left this on your desk, step sister.”He pulled one hand out of his pocket and casually tossed my sleek, silver apple pen right at my chest. I scrambled to catch it, nearly dropping my note book before clutching it tightly against my rib.“Don’t call me that,” I spat, my voice a fierce whisper as I glared at him. “I am not your step sister. The wedding isn’t even for weeks.”“True,” he murmured, tilting his head as his smirk widened

Chapter Six
“No,” I snapped, placing a flat hand against his broad chest and shoving him back just enough to break the suffocating hold on my space. “I am not some desperate prop you get to use to fix your grades, and I am definitely not fake-dating my future step brother. Find another tutor Lael.”I didn’t wait to see the smirk fall off his face. I ducked around his arm, gripped my backpack straps tight, and hurried down the hall before he could even pull another trick out of his sleeves. My sneakers squeaked loudly against the polished floor as I practically walked towards the heavy glass doors leading out of the building. My head was pounding, my chest tight with a mix of left over irritation.“Avery! Babe! Wait up!”I froze mid-stride, every muscle in my back locking up as the voice echoed through the hallway.I turned around slowly, watching leon jog down the hall towards me. He looked completely unbothered, his hair styled, wearing his signature varsity jacket, calling out my name like he h

Chapter Seven
A sharp, triumphant glint flashed in Lael’s blue eyes as his smirk widened, entire frame relaxing against the hood of his car. “Now we’re talking,” he drawled, his gravelly voice dropping into that smooth, infuriating tone. “Shut up,” I snapped, crossing my arms tightly over my chest and glaring up at him. “Don’t get cocky. I haven’t agreed to anything yet. I just want to know how deep of a hole I am digging you out of.” Lael chuckled, a low, rumble in his chest as he pushed himself off the car and took a single step closer, blotting out the afternoon sun. “D-minus,” he admitted with a trace of shame, leaning down until his lips were inches from my ear. “So, do we have a deal, fake girlfriend?” I shivered at the proximity, the cool air mix with sudden heat radiating off him. I planted a hand against his shoulder—firmly, though he barely budged—and pushed him back an inch. "First of all, step back. Second of all, a D-minus?" I stared at him, genuinely appalled. "How do you even

"Is that all?" Lael asked, resting his hip back against the car and raising an eyebrow."Yeah, I think so," I said, nodding slowly as I mentally checked off my list. "That's all for now.""Cool," he said, a slow, lazy smirk stretching across his lips as he straightened up to his full height. "Now it's my turn. I'm adding Rule Five."I narrowed my eyes at him, crossing my arms defensively over my chest. "Rule Five? What's Rule Five?"Lael took a slow step closer, his tall frame looming over me as he tucked his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants."Rule Five," he murmured, his blue eyes locking onto mine with a sharp, dangerous glint. "No chickening out. When we’re in public, you play the part completely. And most importantly... no catching feelings, tutor. Don't go falling in love with me."A loud, incredulous laugh burst out of my throat before I could even stop it."Falling in love with you?" I scoffed, taking a step into his personal space and looking him up and down with a dra

I got into my car and drove off, keeping my eyes on the road. Lael had sped away in the opposite direction, which meant he wasn’t heading home right away.Ten minutes later, I pulled up to the large iron entrance of the De La Fontaine estate. The heavy electric gates slowly slid open, welcoming me inside. As I parked my car in the driveway, the front door swung open. My mom hurried down the stairs.“Avery!! You finally here!” She called out, rushing over to my car as I stepped out.“Yeah,” I said closing my car door and offering a tired smile. My mom hurried over, pulling me in a quick hug before grabbing my hand. “Come inside. Richard isn’t home yet, and I and some of the servants are still trying to arrange our stuffs. Damn! This house is so big! Anyways, come on, let me show you your room. You must be exhausted from school.”As we walked through the front doors, my jaw practically dropped. This place was so unreal. It wasn’t just a house; it looked like a luxury hotel. High, vaulte

Chapter Ten
My mom let out a massive, visible sigh of relief, her shoulders dropping as a bright smile spread across her face.“Oh, thank you sweetie,” she said, reaching across the glass table to give my hand an appreciative squeeze. “You have no idea how much hearing you say that means to me. I just want everything to be peaceful.”“Of course, Mom,” I replied, managing a genuine smile. After we finished lunch and cleared our plates, I went back upstairs to my room. The heavy weight of the day—classes, the shock of the massive mansion, the terrifying realization of my new sleeping arrangements, and sheet mental exhaustion of pretending my life wasn’t a circus finally caught up to me. I flopped down onto the giant bed fully intending to rest my eyes for a minute.Instead, I passed out.I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep, until a sharp, banging pulled me out of my sleep.Knock. Knock. Knock.Groaning, I dragged myself out of bed, rubbing my eyes and stumbling toward the door. I twisted th
