Chapter 2

The last thing that he wanted was for them to get their hands on one of the omegas. Those hunters were evil. They didn't see a being that was pure of heart, with no blood on their hands. All they saw was the wolf that they could change into. And that was bad no matter how good their soul was. It worried Jett. Because he knew that they wouldn't stand a chance against their torture methods.

Alex followed him through the thick trees in silence. They didn't have time to sit around and talk. They needed to find their enemies as soon as possible. Eventually, Jett split off from him to scan another area. They were both the best fighters in the pack. He wasn't worried about Alex getting hurt too much. If anything, the man would just use it as an excuse to get some attention from the male nurses at home.

The fog of the forest made it difficult for even him to see through. For humans, they were left as blind as a bat when they hiked in there. Jett could at least make out trees and shadows. But he mainly focused on his smell and his hearing. The wind liked to whisper the secrets of the strangers that went in it. He could hear the hunters nearby. Hopefully they would be too blinded by the fog in the area, and he would be able to sneak up on them rather than the other way around.

Smelling them out made it easy to find them.

But not so easy to pinpoint their exact location.

Five clicks from rifles came from all around him. Jett looked to see the leader coming out of his hiding spot behind a bush. The grin on his face would make even the devil want to vomit.

"Gotcha!"

Fuck. They had trapped him. Jett looked all around him to see that there was no way out. Every direction had him looking down the barrel of the gun.

The only way was through. If he tried to stall until reinforcements came, he'd wind up as dog chow. His warriors were on their way, but it would still take too long. Even Alex had traveled far away from him at that point.

Jett backed up a little bit, growling. The game plan was already playing in his head. Hopefully, he'd wind up with only a couple of bullets in him. He could survive that, as painful as it sounded. He kept his eyes trained on the leader. All it would take was just one look away from him and Jett would use that as a point of attack.

"An Alpha's head," the leader put his gun up to his face to aim. His smile was vicious. "Is going to look perfect on my wall."

"Uh," one of the other hunters started talking. "H-hey Bob?"

"Not now!" the man gritted his teeth. Jett was hoping that he would glance over at his friend, but those eyes were trained on him.

The way that his voice sounded made Jett curious. He seemed like he had seen something. But when Jett tried to listen to the wind, she said nothing.

Maybe the fog was getting to the man. Jett would have felt pity for him if it weren't for the fact that he was sure that they had killed Nir's warriors just an hour or two ago.

"But, Bob-!" the man said again, sounded more worried than before.

"Dammit, Rick!" the hunter yelled. "How many times do I have to tell you to not interru-!"

Jett didn't let the man finish. He used the distraction to jump on him, making sure to sink his teeth into whatever flesh he could. He was expecting pain from bullets. His pouncing on their leader made them all start shooting in a flurry. But he focused on keeping his teeth tight around the man's neck. He wasn't going to rest until he heard the satisfying snap.

It wasn't until the hunter lay limp in his mouth that he realized he hadn't gotten any bullets in him. There had been gunshots. But now all he could hear were screams.

Alex was too far away to make it there that fast. They were on the outer rims of his pack territory. And most of the warriors were ordered to protect the weak in case the hunters could somehow get to them.

He didn't have time to contemplate. Jett quickly helped to kill off the rest of the hunting party. The wolves fighting with him weren't in his pack. The Valor Pack consisted of mainly black wolves. This group was brown, and much smaller than his warriors. The markings on their backs were barely noticeable in the fog. But he could make out the slightly darker patterns that spread over them like a coat.

That description only fit one pack: The Reverence Pack.

The leader of the warrior party was small. But those dark eyes held a powerful authority to them. The kind that drew him in.

"Thanks for the help." He told the wolf. All the hunters were on the ground dead. This group had been able to do the one thing that Jett had been planning and failing at. Their surprise attack was perfect, and helped make sure no one got hurt by those bullets.

Only Alphas could mind link with werewolves that weren't in their pack. It helped in situations like these.

"There's no need for thanking," a smooth voice came through his thoughts. "We are allies. I'm sure you would do the same for us."

"Of course," he watched the wolf carefully. The Reverence Pack didn't come out to talk much at all. Not even Manny knew that many of the members. They kept to themselves. It made Jett all the more curious as to who this stranger was. "What's your name?"

"Shiro," the brown wolf answered. "We came to help when we saw signs of them in the city."

"They're in the city?!" That explained how they were able to skip the east and west territory and go straight to theirs. But that thought alone had his heart racing. There were so many innocents in the city of BlackCreek, both werewolf and human.

"Not anymore," Shiro answered. "We killed them before they could do any harm. Then we started out hunt in the forest. I'm sorry that we did not tell you of our arrival into your territory. We were trying to work quickly to hunt them."

"Don't worry about that," he shook his head. He was just relieved that no one in the city got hurt. These hunters didn't seem to care what you did or who you were. If you were okay with werewolves, they were probably going to kill you or use you as bait. And that was the last thing he wanted to happen.

"You are the Alpha of the Valor Pack, correct?" Shiro asked. His feet were apart in a stance of action. It showed him that he was prepared to attack an enemy at any time if one snuck up on them.

"Yes," he answered. "You can call me Jett." He liked this warrior. He was respectful, and his senses sharp.

And there was something about him that made Jett more curious than he normally was of this pack.

"Alpha Jett," the wolf bowed his head. "If you would like, we would be honored to help you find the rest of the hunters."

"The more, the merrier," he told them. There was no way he was going to decline their help. Jett quickly set the pace for all of them to follow. The Reverence Pack was well known for their stealth. They traveled with him silently, each warrior completely focused on the task at hand.

"Why is it so cold in here?" Shiro shivered, sinking into the covers more."Because that's the only way that you'll let me hold you," Jett chuckled, pulling him closer. They had been practically living in that bed the whole week. Shiro wasn't used to laying around all day. It made him restless, which made him not being able to leave the apartment all the more frustrating.Jett did keep good company, though. He always seemed to know when something was wrong, or when he was upset. They had talked a lot that week they had been together. It was mainly about things like their past and their family and friends."I'm too used to having a whole bed to myself," Shiro huffed, giving in to the man who was holding him tightly. "I like to sprawl.""Then sprawl on me," Jett pet his hair. He loved when he did it. It was a relaxing feeling. "I don't mind.""It's not the same," he complained grumpily."You're really cute when you act grumpy like this," Jett laughed."No, I'm not," he frowned. He hated

Sleeping was so nice. He never had to deal with his father yelling at him when he was asleep, or all the worries that he had about Shiro as well as the rest of the pack problems. He didn't have to deal with hiding himself from everyone. He could simply be himself in the black pitch void that was his slumber. Sometime, when he was angry and couldn't find a way to get it to go away, he'd just sleep. Was he really getting rid of the problem? No. It would still be in the back of his head. But that was how life was. That was how his life was at least. Sleeping was just a better alternative to punching someone in the face.Having a completely soundproof room, with curtains that could block out the sun as well as the heat, he could sleep for days in that room of his. It was his cave and his safe place. And he needed it the most right then. How on earth did Shiro contain the symptoms of the curse? He was only half way through the month and it was already eating him up. He supposed it was karm

He woke up calmly. It didn't feel like he needed to do anything. He was merely hungry. That was always a good reason to wake up. But his body didn't want to get up. It wanted to stay in the comfort of the bed he was in. If it weren't for his stomach screaming at him, he may have laid their a little longer. He enjoyed the snug feeling that it gave him. It was as if he had gotten tucked in. Hiroko used to do that for a while, after his grandfather passed away. The small action helped sooth him in many ways. When he finally opened his eyes, he slowly began to take in his surroundings. He was in Hiroko's apartment. The one that she had always used whenever her cycle for the curse came. She had prepared it for him before her departure. She would help with the Luna duties until the day before Shiro was supposed to come back, as she had another trip that father wished for her to go on. But her apartment was stocked with everything that one would need when they underwent something like this.

He couldn't believe this. Jett hadn't even known that this was a way in which you could bypass this stupid curse. It raised more questions on top of the ones thjey already had. How many people did this? How did they figure this out? Why on earth was this pack trying to bypass this curse?Well, historically, every pack had tried to find a workaround to it when they first got it. They had worked with witches, demons, just about every magical being. Nothing worked. If anything, it made things worse for a while. This trick must have been something that only the Reverence Pack figured out. But he couldn't imagine mates letting the other go through so much pain alone. Just the thought of it made him hurt."Don't do anything stupid, Jett," Alex told him. "This could be life threatening.""I'm aware," he told his second. Alex always got worried about him when he got in this mood. "I just need to find him.""You want me to try and get the warriors to help?""No," Jett parked the car on the sid

"And you guys didn't find anything?" Alex asked over the phone. He was talking to the member of the Dynamic pack that had been assigned this case."They had all but disappeared the past three days," he said. "And the night that you were talking about was so dark, we couldn't catch a whiff of anything."Alex sighed. For the past four days they had been doing nothing but trying to find clues about what was going on in that pack. The first day of Summer had come and gone as if nothing was happening. But there had to be something going on.Because why would they all have disappeared from the city? Why would Shiro's ceremony get canceled? And the fact that Geo wasn't texting him as much was only putting him more on edge about the situation. He didn't like this one bit.And here he thought that he would only have to wait two weeks. Alex huffed a laugh. He was never lucky when it came to a mate, he shouldn't have been surprised. It just hurt that Geo wasn't even talking to him. And he was on

He was on cloud nine. Even with all the work that he did in his office, the kind that would bore him to tears but always needed to get done anyway, he could close his eyes and still be right back in that part of the forest. That laughter. It was addicting. He had never heard something so purely joyful in his entire life. The man was amazing like that. It had taken him a little to get the real him out of the serious man that he had been, but once he did, he could tell why so many people still remembered him to this day. Even the way that he talked changed. Instead of always being respectful, or speaking like he was a royal prince, he talked like he was actually from this time and not the 1800s or something. He also couldn't get over how easily he disappeared in that fog. He could hide in it and Jett wouldn't have a clue as to where he was. Then he would spring out of thin air and pounce on him. He had no clue just how happy the man could be just by doing that. It was as if Jett had bro
