Chapter five

"let me help with that" Ashley grabbed the dryer from her hand before she could even react.

*

It was evident her curiosity was driving her to unnecessary chores. Emma smiled inwardly, at least she didn't only trigger her interest but also got her to give her a hand. She sat still on the bed, enjoying the royal treatment. After all only the rich reject free meals.

*

"so tell me about that asshole who is planning to steal my bestie"

"Are you afraid?" she couldn't cage her laughter. Ashley surely hissed like a jealous boyfriend that if they happened to be in public others might misunderstand their friendship.

"Am jealous. Wait! are you planning on moving out and leaving me here all by myself?" Ashley stretched her neck from behind to catch a glimpse at Emma's reaction "Ohh give me a break Ashe!. Where is this silly idea coming from? It's not like all affections turned into true love" she scolded.

"Do you mean to say he doesn't love you? And he is into someone else?" she only thought of the worse that could happen in a relationship.

*

Emma was not foreign to the fact that Maxwell's world was far different from hers but that truth couldn't detain her feelings for him.

The very day, she saw him at the clubhouse walking elegantly with guards all around him, marking the beginning of her little fantasy. She got attracted to him without a logical reason or perhaps it was love in the first picture.

*

Ashley was a prodigal daughter. She separated from her family years ago after her dad managed to get a replacement for her mother. The difference is she never receive a cent from her dad without working for it. She works in her family company as a model. She had initially thought of turning Emma into a model like herself. With her beautiful and perfect curve, it would have been easy to get a name for herself. Too bad she was into something else.

"gee! Ashe, you are really bad at guessing. I never meant any of those"Emma squeezed out the words with a playful expression.

*

How the fuck was she supposed to tell her she's in love with her boss. Ashley would waste no time teasing her.

Ashley put down the hand dryer and sat on the bed facing Emma.

" office romance?"Ashley let out with a mockery smile. "Wait!! who is this mysterious crush of yours?" Ashley made a serious face, her black eyes beaming at her curiosity.

*

Emma was a fairytale girl.

" just a crush, not love"Emma sighed.

"Whatever that is make sure it doesn't take away my Emma from me. And another thing protects that little heart of yours" she advised pointing a finger at her chest.

*

Ashley was someone who didn't believe in true love. She grew up as a witness of her parent's affection towards each other. But it didn't take her dad much time to remarry after the tragic death of her mother. Everything occurred so fast that within a short stint, everything felt like her mom never existed. The home she once lived in with her mother and created beautiful memories together turned into something else.

It changed from home to house because her dad chose to do things to the satisfaction of his wife.

*

"Enough of your questions. I think I have answered enough. Good night I want to have rest" Emma dragged Ashley by the wrist and shove her out before locking her door.

She sighed relief and lay on the bed facing the ceiling, soon darkness took over.

.......................

"How is my dearest brother?" he asked the person on the other side of the line with a dark stare. The disgust attached to those words was crystal clear. Only his golden eyes stood out in the darkroom and his deep voice sounded in the quiet room. There was no hint of concern in his tone.

*

"It seems I underestimated him. Hope my presence would not be a change" he parted his lips this time with a smirk.

*

Alex was a born enemy to Max, related by blood and bonded as rivals. Alexander King, the eldest grandson of the King's lineage refused to accept defeat, not from the younger brother. It occurred to him that grandpa King favored Max more than him but his reckless sentimentality made a great contribution to it which he failed to notice or probably was blinded by foes and hatred.
