For the final leg of the tournament it would appear that I was going to have quite the entourage. Fenris and Lila sat on either side of me while Alaric, Gregory, Lucien, and Jerald were seated on the bench behind me. Jackson and Lee had entered the room a brief time ago, sitting on opposite sides of the makeshift arena with their respective pack members who had come to the summit with them.
I was anxious to get this all over with and out of the way. Days had been wasted on this ridiculous tournament; time that would have been better spent signing a treaty that would bring the worlds packs together in a solitary fight against the greatest evil we had ever faced. Genesis.
“All will be okay, Adora, we have your back.” Alaric’s voice drifted through my mind soothingly, though he was completely off as to what was bothering me. I was not worried about who would win this fight, I was not stressing about who I would face off with. I was

The power that flowed through me was unlike anything I had ever felt before, like lightening flashing through my veins, from my heart to my fingertips and flowing into Lee. I could feel the difference in him the moment it entered him, his pulse skipped a beat before beginning to hammer faster and faster. I focused on healing the carotid artery first, imagining my light encircling it and stitching it back together. The flow of blood leaking between my fingers slowed before finally stopping. I wanted to heal his neck completely, but I could feel my body tiring out as the use of my magic drained me. I focused instead on his leg, closing the bleeding vessels, trying to keep as much of his blood in his body as possible. Without blood he would be unable to heal, and all of this would be for nothing. I needed him alive until Blake could get here and give him a transfusion, and perhaps heal him a bit more himself. “What is she doing? Why is she
“Don’t let that asshat get under your skin, Eva.” Lila muttered, handing me a bottle of water as she glared at a grinning Jackson while he and his pack members entered the temporary arena. The room was filling up fast, as it seemed every single person who had come for the summit had decided to be here for the final fight. Though I guess it made sense, no matter who won, history would be made here tonight. “Don’t worry Lila, it would take more than a cocky grin to put me on edge.” I chuckled, sipping the water she had handed me slowly, keeping my gaze focused anywhere but on Jackson. Alaric, Fenris and Lila were all standing with me, waiting for Alpha Grayson to call Jackson and I to the center of the ring. We were still about ten minutes out from the official start and odd enough, the closer it got the calmer I felt, I knew this was Sapphire’s doing, sharing her confidence with me through the bond we shared. “He se
The attack was expected, but faster than I was prepared for. I danced out of his way, spinning back, and flipping backwards, springing off my hands and landing on my feet a distance away from a wide-eyed Jackson staring at me.“This is a fight, not a gymnastics competition.” Jackson growled, stalking forward to confront me once more.“Are you scared Jackson?” I probed him, smirking as I bend into stance again.“Of you? Never.” He lunged again, and I knew if I took the same route again, he’d see it coming, so instead I called on Sapphire’s strength and jumped up and over his head, twisting while in the air to land behind him, striking out to throw a punch into a kidney and the back of his head, then dancing away again before he could turn and deliver his own blows. When he turned to face me, I was a distance away and he looked officially pissed. If I had
“I can’t believe that didn’t leave a scar.” Yanking my shirt down to cover my exposed abdomen, I caught Lila’s eye in the mirror as she entered our hotel room. I had just been admiring the smooth skin myself, surprised as well at the lack of scaring from the mortal wound Jackson had managed to inflict before passing out. “She’s an Amethyst, they can heal from almost any wound.” Alaric’s pride filled voice filled the room as he stepped through the door behind Lila, Fenris following close. Surprisingly Blake was with them as well, bringing up the rear and closing the door softly behind him. The poor guy looked beyond nervous, pushing his black rimmed spectacles up his nose. “Hi Beta, I was just wanting to check on you and make sure you were healing well.” Blake stammered, attempting to step further in the room when Alaric turned to tower over him, and though I couldn’t see his expression, I kne
“May I be the first to welcome Alpha Evangeline Dark to the table for the first time with her new title.” Alpha Lee shouted over the murmurs of the room as I moved to slide into my seat at the large round table that had been reassembled for the summit to continue. At Lee’s words a soft round of applause filled the conference room, a few of the Alpha’s who had been on my side hooting and hollering a welcome. Laughing at their antics I waved my hands to quiet them down, laughing at the warm welcome I had not been expecting. “Thank you everyone, I am thrilled to join your ranks. Now, let’s get down to business, shall we?” “Yes, of course.” Lee agreed, flashing me another triumphant smile before turning to face the rest of the leaders, clearing his throat before continuing. “I know we got distracted the last few days with other matters, but now we need to buckle down and bring this back around to a worldwide treaty being signed.” &nb
“Are you nervous?” Lila’s whispered words pulled me out of the thoughts and plans pulsating through my mind. We had left Tallahassee hours ago and still had a long journey ahead of us. “No, I’m not nervous.” I answered, sighing when she gave me a look as if she did not believe me. “I’m hopeful, Lila, not nervous. From what Alaric has said everyone is excited for my return and though the elders were worried about a female Alpha, they cannot go against the Alpha table’s decision. Seems I’ll be spending a few days trying to win over the support of the packs main leaders.” “Except Alaric, he’s already one hundred percent behind you.” That was true, Alaric was supporting me and my claim of Alpha completely. “Do you think they’re all getting along?” The ‘they’ she was talking about was Fenris, Alaric and surprisingly, Blake, who were all traveling in the SUV behind us along with Gregory, Jerald, and Lucious. Link and his
I did not have any time to register what Sapphire had said before we were through the gate and speeding through the forest drive towards what I assumed would be the packs town and pack house. My mate. “Eva? Are you okay?” Lila asked as one of her hands shook my shoulder in an attempt to get my attention. “Yeah, I’m fine, I think I’m just beginning to get a little nervous is all.” I gave her a reassuring smile before turning away from her and watching the trees flash by outside the window. “Sapphire, I thought you said you didn’t think we had a mate?” When I told Lila I was nervous, I was being honest, but it was not about meeting the pack I was now Alpha of, if was about finding I had a mate right here in this pack and I was not sure how I felt about it. “I didn’t. I never felt that pull to find them. But that was definitely our mates’ scent.”
“Alpha, where are you?” Beta Alaric’s anxious voice entered my mind mid stride as I flew across the forest floor on Sapphire’s lavender paws. I had gone out for a run this morning alone; I just needed some time alone to think about everything that had happened the past few days. “I am out for a run; I will be back when I feel a bit more relaxed.” My tone was clipped when I answered him, but I needed this to be a short conversation. Sapphire and I needed time alone to unwind. “Why didn’t you take your guard?” Alaric’s demanded. “Because I don’t need a Guard, Beta, I am not a Luna who needs to be protected, I am the Alpha of this pack, your Alpha, do not question me again on decisions that are my own to make. Understood?” I was getting tired of being questioned for every decision I made and every move I planned. I was questioned by the council, by my brother and b
