Chapter 5 The Cavalry

That sent ripples coursing through the whole courtroom. The reporters' cameras kept flashing. Yvonne shot up from her seat, her expression dark. "What are you doing, Ms. Leidermann?"

Rachel did not even give her a moment of her time. She came over to me and knelt on one knee. Carefully, she unraveled the ropes around my hand. With a voice softer than clouds, she said, "I'm sorry I couldn't come sooner."

Weakly, I raised my head and met her eyes. There was worry etched within them. In my previous life, she was the one who marched right into the prison to save me, and yet we both died in a sea of fire that engulfed the place.

"Rachel…" I said her name with my cracked voice. The moment I found out that she, like me, was reborn, I could no longer hold back my tears.

She gently wiped my tears away. I was like the most valuable treasure to her. "It's alright, Shawn. I'll keep you safe."

She turned to the medical staff. "Tend to Mr. Pearson's wounds immediately!"
