Chapter 1

Clutching the letter from the hospital stating that she was six weeks pregnant, Alena walked to her door with a big smile on her face.

"I can't wait to see Jason's reaction. He'll be thrilled to know we're having a baby," Alena murmured, stroking her flat stomach.

She and Jason had been married for five years. All that time, they had been waiting for a baby. But today it all came true.

 No wonder Alena felt sick to her stomach and her head was often dizzy. Apparently, a new soul was growing in her womb.

"Jason! Honey! I'm home!" Alena slammed the door and entered the house.

There was no answer from her husband. Jason should be home from work by now.

Inside the large and magnificent house, Alena searched for her husband's whereabouts.

Her feet moved up the stairs, then toward her room.

But the closer Alena got to the room, the clearer Jason's voice came from inside, sounding like he was with a woman.

 "Jason, please hurry!"

"Are you challenging me, my love?"

"Today, you are stronger than ever. It looks like you've been building up your stamina all day just to make love to me."

"Of course. We have to hurry before Alena gets home!"

Through the hole in the door, Alena's eyes witnessed everything. Her husband was on top of another woman's unclothed body. Jason was doing it in their bedroom. 

To make matters worse, the woman was Kylie, Alena's old schoolmate.

Alena's heart felt like it was being stabbed by a sharp object. Her hands were shaking. She covered her mouth with tears.

Unable to take it anymore, Alena opened the door to the room violently, startling those who were busy paddling the boat on the bed.

"Alena?!" Jason's eyes widened.

Kylie was surprised as well, but then turned into a satisfied smile as she covered her body parts with a thick blanket.

"What are you doing in my room?!" snapped Alena, walking over to Jason and punching him hard in the chest.

"Why would you have an affair with my friend, Jason? Bring her into our room? Make love to her while I was at work? Do you guys do that a lot?!"

Jason, already wearing his boxers, now held both of Alena's wrists as she slapped him.

"You! Kylie!" Turning to Kylie, who was standing with only a blanket wrapped around her body, Alena pointed her right index finger with a disappointed look. "How could you sleep with your friend's husband? I thought you were an honest friend. Turns out you're a bitch!"

Alena slapped Kylie's cheek, causing her to fall to the mattress.

"Alena!" Jason snapped angrily. "Don't hurt Kylie! I don't like you hurting my girlfriend!" he pushed Alena's chest backwards, then Jason rushed over to Kylie and helped her up.

"Jason, Alena hurt me," Kylie cried.

Jason held Kylie in front of Alena and ran his fingers through his lover's hair.

Alena was surprised and silent at Jason's sweet gesture to Kylie. 

"What did you say? Kylie is your girlfriend?" Alena was sure she hadn't misheard.

Jason nodded. "That's right. Kylie is my girlfriend."

"Jason, you already have a wife. I'm your wife!"

"Then I will divorce you immediately so that I can marry Kylie as soon as possible!"

"You can't marry her! I'm pregnant with your child," Alena said, which shocked Jason and Kylie.

Maybe after hearing the news of her pregnancy, Jason could end his affair with Kylie and not divorce her.

"You're pregnant?" Jason frowned.

"Yes. This is the child we've been waiting for for five years. I'm finally pregnant. Please end your relationship with Kylie. I will forgive you and not mention today's incident."

Kylie's face looked upset. She was afraid that Jason would choose Alena over her.

"In your dreams, Alena!" Jason scoffed. "I love Kylie so much. I can't give up a diamond like that for a pebble like you," Jason continued, taking Kylie's right hand and giving it a gentle kiss.

Alena's breath caught in her throat. It pressed against her own tight chest.

She shook her head weakly. "Even after you found out I was carrying your child? Don't you care about your own flesh and blood? This is the child we've been waiting for, Jason."

"Don't bother Jason with the damn baby! Just abort it! Jason can still get offspring from Kylie after they get married." Anna, Alena's mother-in-law, quietly entered the room with her hands in her lap.

Alena narrowed her eyes. Her mouth fell open at Anna's announcement. "Mom, I am pregnant with your grandchild. Why didn't you defend me, but what they did was wrong? Jason cheated on me and let his mistress make love to him in our room!"

"You should look in the mirror and think about how my son could have an affair! You're a boring woman. Your body smells like flour every day. You can't please your husband or your in-laws. It's only natural for Jason to look at other women," Anna sneered as she girded her loins.

"Kylie is a beautiful, educated woman and also comes from a respectable family. She is the only granddaughter of Mr. Jake Wilson, the second richest businessman in New York," Anna continued, approaching Kylie, hugging her and bragging about her in front of Alena.

Hearing this, Alena's eyes widened. "Jake Wilson's granddaughter?"

"Yes. Kylie is the richest tycoon's granddaughter. She's the heir to Mr. Wilson's entire fortune. Can you imagine how different you are from Kylie? You're just a baker, while Kylie is the sole heir to the Wilson family fortune. Jason is a perfect match for Kylie." Anna's words this time made Kylie and Jason look at each other and smile broadly.

Holding back the tightening in her chest, Alena said again. "Really? Kylie and I were classmates in high school, and I've never seen her chauffeured by Mr. Jake Wilson. She wasn't even picked up in a fancy car. Her school lifestyle doesn't show that she comes from a wealthy family at all."

"That's because my grandfather always told me not to show my true identity in front of everyone. He was very protective of my safety. As the granddaughter of a conglomerate, my safety would be jeopardized if people knew who I was."

"You're a good liar, Kylie! And my husband and in-laws foolishly believed you." Alena scoffed.

"You're the fool! We all believe Kylie. Kylie wouldn't lie to us. Just so you know, Kylie bought me a branded bag this afternoon. In all your time as my daughter-in-law, have you ever bought a luxury item for your in-laws? Huh! You are such a lousy daughter-in-law."

"Mom, I never bought you a luxury bag because I always used the money I earned to support our family since Jason was unemployed for the first two years of our marriage..."

"Also, to pay off Mom's debts to loan sharks. Then to save until I could finally buy the house we live in now," Alena explains, leaving Anna and Jason speechless.

When she got married, Alena used some of the money she had to start a small bakery to support her husband and family. Jason had just been laid off from his job and had been unemployed for two years.

Eventually, Alena's bakery started selling well, and she could save a lot of money. Alena even helped Jason get a job with the Retro Group, despite Jason's lack of business skills.

The clever Alena helped Jason in his work until now Jason can be appointed CEO.

Unfortunately, all her sacrifices were rewarded with betrayal.

"You're so calculating," Jason snapped.

"I'm not calculating, I'm stating a fact," Alena replied. Her eyes were now on Kylie. "Kylie is deceiving you. She's not Mr. Wilson's granddaughter. She has absolutely no proof."

"Who says I don't have proof?" Kylie interrupted. Then she pointed her right finger at Alena. Alena's body instantly froze at the sight of the sparkling diamond ring embedded in Kylie's ring finger.

"This is the Wilson family diamond ring. You must have heard the news that Mr. Wilson ordered this ring for his granddaughter. And it's the only one in the world. After seeing this, are you still going to deny it?"

Alena's eyes widened. Her mouth fell open.

Alena's mind raced.

"This ring? How did it end up on you?" asked Alena in surprise.
