Chapter nine

Ava felt her heart missed series of beat as she stared at the man before her, his eyes were turning darker by each second that passes and his hand holding the gun to her didn’t waver. With every passing second, she could see the determination in his eyes and all that was remaining was for him to pull the fucking trigger and send her to hell just like he had said he would a while ago. She closed her eyes and opened them; she licked her chapped lips as she started counting the seconds till he pulls the trigger in her heart. She waited, believing that it was finally time for her to go see her mother and if possible her late boyfriends if she would be able to see them.

She saw his sexy slender index finger move to the trigger and blinked as slowly as she could, if there was one thing she didn’t want to miss was to see when the bullet left the gun and take her life. She could feel her heartbeat slowing down by the seconds and she started calling to her mother to wait for her because she doubts if there was any saving her from the monster staring back at her in those pitch black eyes.

And then, he put down his hand and even though Ava was surprised, she still let out the air she had no idea she had been holding. She gulped, their eyes locked in a combat, sapphire blue against pitch black. “Never, and I mean never, mention that woman in my presence again,” his voice was zero degrees low that it frightens her more than his eyes. He walked out of the room then, slamming the door after him.

Ava breathed out, her breath was leaving in pants and she placed her hand on her chest to calm her fast beating heart, if anyone had told her she would survive that intense moment, she would never have believed it. She ran a quick check on her body to see if the bullet had penetrated her without her hearing the sound or actually feeling the pain, but she was perfectly fine but her heart was still beating like a thousand drums and her breathing was still heavy. She licked her chapped lips, she had been drained of blood in those seconds that her heart was finally pumping new ones and circulating it through her.

Her legs felt like jellies and she almost crawled to the bed and sat down on it, she placed her hand on her chest one more time and closed her eyes, God, I’m alive, I am really alive, she thought as she covered her mouth with her hand as tears blurred her vision. Her father was the scariest men she had ever seen and she hated seeing him angry but this man, the man she just saw? She would gladly watch her father angry a million times than have another scene with that monster. It was as if his eyes were an empty vacuum, no, bottomless pit of hell and devoid of a soul. She had heard rumors that El Diablo sold his soul to the devil, and after seeing the demon she just saw, she believes it wholeheartedly.

After taking some moments to return back from her short trip to afterlife, she quickly got up and started taking off the bed spread, she didn’t bother to go look for him for something to dry the mattress with and just used the dried part of the bedspread to start drying it. Minutes gone, her hands ache and knuckles had turned red but she didn’t want to stop, she would do anything, anything not to have another encounter with him.

Finally decided that it was dried enough, she saw the new bedspread on the chair and thanked the heavens that he got out new ones before that show. She went to the chair and got it and then draped it on the bed and arranged it as good as she good. It was the first time she was putting on cloth on a bed but she had done a good job with it, thanks to her often staying in her room as her maids arranged her bed.

She nodded at her handwork and glanced at the dirty bedspread on the floor, wondering where to find the washing machine but really too scared to find him and ask him. She decided to stay in the room and wait for him; if he comes to check on her then she would ask him, that’s if she could. She sat like the good innocent child she was and waited, she wasn’t tied up but if truth be told, she would prefer to be tied up because literally, there was no different from how quietly she sat from how she often stays when he ties her up.

What felt like an hour passed and she went into the bathroom to ease herself, returning back to the room, her heart left her chest and every blood in her veins dried off when she saw the man in the room. She almost ran back into the bathroom before stopping herself and clutching tightly onto the hem of her towel. She was shivering and she wished she wasn’t, she doesn’t want to appear scared of him even though she was scared shit of him But being scared means being at his mercy and that means he could treat her any how he wants, though it’s not like he wasn’t doing it already but, it would be preferable when she makes it look like he was having a hard time.

He could see how scared she was even though she was trying to act tough, the slightly trembling of her eyelids and the stiffness and whiteness of her ankles gave her away as well as her shallow breathing and slight shivering of her shoulders. He had never wanted to scare her so much, yes he knew he loves people being afraid of him and he would love her being afraid of him at least it would make her keep her running mouth shout but he had never wanted her to be this scared of him and he wondered why he even cared. She wasn’t the first woman to tremble at his presence but it was a little strange seeing it in her. From the night he had met her in her room till this morning, she had always said what she wanted, talked to him however that she felt like that it felt strange seeing her being the obedient type and also with her mouth shut without him telling her to shut it.

He frowned, still wondering why he even cared, “you can put that on, I don’t like the idea of having a half naked woman walking around in front of me, also, you can come out to the living room for breakfast if you are hungry, I believe you have stayed in the room enough.” He looked at the bed and then back at her but he said nothing and left the room with the dirty bedspread.

Ava let out the breath she had been holding once more and stood on the same spot for the next two minutes before wearing off his presence and the effect it had on her. She walked to the bed and picked up what obviously was his shirt, it was black and long sleeved and she knew it would reach to her thighs; at least it would cover her decency very well. She brought the shirt to her nose and smelled it, to her surprise, she loved the scent. It smelled of masculinity and a little bit of danger and sea scent, but it was the danger scent she loved the most. A smile curved on her lips without her knowing and when she finally realized what she was doing, she threw the shirt on the bed immediately.

Why on earth would he give me his shirt to wear? Do I look like his girlfriend or what? She turned immediately to the door to tell him that if he won’t find something else for her to wear then she would rather stay in a towel all day but before she could get to the door, the scene from earlier flashed back in her mind and she quickly retreated and put on the shirt. It looked big on her and it was as long as she expected, she looked around, wishing there was a mirror she could look at herself in to see how she looks wearing his shirt but then she abolished the thought as fast as she had thought of it. Why on earth would she care? She is only his captive and nothing more so it doesn’t matter how his shirt looks on her.

Done buttoning up, she walked to the door and opened it and was again just like yesterday, shrouded in the darkness. She walked straight, knowing she won’t collide with anything and when she felt the door, she opened it to enter the bright living room. She looked around and saw him at a dining table, wait a minute, that wasn’t there yesterday, she thought with a frown, where could he have brought it from? The dining was just two seats but it was big enough that she couldn’t have missed seeing it yesterday, not when she had ran around the whole place, trying to find an open door.

She approached him softly and occupy the only available chair which was opposite him, he didn’t look up nor did he acknowledge her presence, there was already a plate of food waiting for her and she didn’t need to be invited a second time to start eating. The aroma of the food made her tummy rumble, reminding her that she had eaten only once yesterday but today seems to be better since he offered her breakfast.

Not long after she started eating, he dropped his cutleries, already done with his and stood, “you can take a nap after, by evening we leave to deliver you to your owner,” he announced and walked away.

Ava felt her appetite leave her by those words but one look at the food; she regained it back and started eating. She heard a door open and turned to see him walking out from one of the closed doors of yesterday, behind him, she saw utensils and knew that it was the kitchen, oh, she thought and licked her lip, savoring the taste of the omelet he served her, she didn’t fail to realize that even though he was a dangerous assassin, he sure knows how to work in a kitchen. He ignored her and sat on the sofa, probably slept off and she ignored him as well and focused on her meal. By the time she was done, she was full that she felt her tummy would burst and she refrained from taking water in other to prevent the figure of speech from happening.

She picked up her plate and marched to the door he emerged from a while ago but just like yesterday, it was locked. She sighed and returned to the dining, placing the plate on it and following the dark hallway back to his room.

She collapsed on the bed and her eyelids closed involuntarily, there was no doubt she would sleep better than she did last night, after all, her body was free and she could turn and change position whenever she felt like without something refraining her from doing so. She dozed off in no time her head touched the pillow and she drifted into a deep sleep.

***

Ava woke up to the feeling that someone was watching her, she opened her eyes to see a man dressed in all black and leaning on the table beside her. Her heart stopped as her sleepiness cleared from her eyes and her vision became cleared, she gulped, trying not to overreact and waited for him to say his piece.

Seeing that she was awake, he stood up and flung a material at her, “it’s time, get dressed,” he said and left the room. Ava sat up and picked up the material to see that it was a nice navy blue gown, his words repeated in her mind, ‘it’s time, get dressed,’ finally, it was time to deliver her to her owner and she felt her blood cuddling at that thought, there was no doubt that she was afraid of what her life would become from tonight henceforth.
