Chapter twenty four
Ava screamed immediately she had the sound and Lucian covered her mouth with his hand quickly, looking deep into her eyes as she was shaking violently. Finally, her fear came to pass; this was how it all started that night. She was looking at Lucian but the darkness of the room made it impossible to see his eyes or his face, and all she could see was his shadow and the feeling of his hand on her mouth that was blocking her sound.
“Shh,” he whispered and surprised her by pulling her close and kissing her forehead before letting her go, “stay here, Ava, I am going to remove my hand now but you must not make any sound, you have to obey this, do you understand cariño?” She nodded and he said, “bien,” before letting go of her mouth.
“What do you think was that?” She whispered.
“I think we are under attack.”
“What? I thought you said no one can find here.”
“Si, until today,” he replied and reached under the pillow for his gun, with one more look at

By evening in the day, they were back in the car, driving to a place Ava has no idea of and have asked but Lucian had only replied with that they were going to Mexico and she wondered if they would be driving there. After a half an hour drive, they drove into a remote area with bushes around and another short five minutes drive, they arrived at a runway with a private jet not far from where they parked. Ava glanced at him then and he nodded at the jet, “Mexico,” he said and climbed out of the car.She did as well and waited for him to get their bags and they started approaching the jet when someone came out of it. Ava was giddy as a child when the elevator door opened, she looped her hand with Lucian’s own and one who sees them would never believe that she was a package to be delivered. As they arrived at the party, it was merriment everywhere, people were drinking and dancing and chatting. Ava glanced away from him, his question hit her bad, why does she care? He was right, for a man that kidnapped her and ready to deliver her to some guy, kissing her and threatening to kill her is a small thing for him to accomplish, so why was she hurt by it? Ava sat in the restaurant of the hotel waiting for her meal like she always does for the past one week. Although she didn’t want to think about it, but she does know that Lucian had changed since the night of the party. He doesn’t lock her in the room anymore, and he casually lets her walk around the hotel while he goes around doing his business. He was gone most of the nights and some he returns bloody, but in as much as the sight affects her, she didn’t question him and sometimes helps him in cleaning up.The most surprising thing was how he lets her do whatever she wants, and he hasn’t said no to anything she requested for anymore. Lucian stiffened when he heard the gunshot, he pushed Ava away softly and looked deeply into her eyes, seeing the tears there, his heart wavered. His fingers on her shoulders tightened as he glanced down at the gun in her hand and then at his stomach. And that was when he felt it: nothing. No pain, no blood stain, nothing and then he heard a body slumping on the ground and turned to see the man who still had shock written all over his face as he took his final breath.He was surprised seeing the man, when he had entered the room, all his attention had been on her, he didn’t sense the man, never occurred to him that someone else was in the room with her, a detail he never misses before and then he realized, if Ava had not shot the man, he would have been dead because he was totally relaxed that she was alone and there was no attacker. Ava opened her eyes to the bright light shining on her face, she closed her eyes immediately and blocked the light with her hand. It’s been five days since the return from Mexico, Ava had thought and believed that Lucian would come around along the way. After all, he was as cold as that when they first met, so no doubt when his demons or whatever troubling him has finally left him, he would come around and would even apologize for what he said to her.But to her surprise, rather than come around, he was drifting further away. He leaves in the morning to return late at night, sometimes covered in blood from head to toe.
