Chapter seven; *** in the meeting room

"I'm an idiot who's also addicted to bread too"

He said laughing

Grace basked in the afternoon sun alongside with Rome as they strolled towards the doctors abode. And for some reason, she felt nervous and had this burning sensation st the back of her neck like she was being watched.

She eased a breath, rubbing her hands against her gown. It felt nostalgia especially since something similar had happened at the covern just recently. Confusion suddenly filled Rome's chest and it wasn't his. He looked over to his wife with a look of concern.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes." She cleared her throat unnecessarily.

"You clearly aren't."

"I am honestly, I ju-"

Rome stopped midway

"I know this has been a lot for you. A series of events happening right after the other and then me coming along.-"

"I--"

"But I'm your mate Grace and I truly have feelings for you. I do not want anything to happen to you. Not the reoccurrence that happened at the vamps covern. Let me know how to protect you"

Grace eyes locked with his and she took a deep breath feeling compelled to tell him all her secrets.

"Wait, so are you capable of not loving your own mate?"

It was a distraction, she couldn't bear to make him start worrying when they'd just begun their journey together. At least she didn't hear any suspicious sound.

Rome took a breath as they resumed walking again.

"Yes. Some people have rejected their mate overtime. So yes, I think I can say one is capable of not loving their mate."

"Oh. Okay"

Finally they arrived at the doctor's. It looked like any modest hospital. Had it's wards, patients and that hospital feeling and smell. Grace cringed. She'd always hated the hospital.

A man came out of almost nowhere grinning from ear to ear.

"Rome"

A hug was shared between both men and some manly pats.

"I saw you coming in." He paused turning to Grace. "You must be...-"

"My mate. Grace, Andrew, the doctor I was speaking to you about and Andrew, my beautiful mate, Grace"

"It's so nice to finally meet you."

He even grinned wider, forcing a smile out of Grace's lips.

"Me too"

"Come in. I heard you two arrived just yesterday. What seems to be the problem"

He said turning to the couple looking at them one after the other before glancing

"Her mark on her wrists is brighter than an human and I was thinking if that meant anything at all."

Rome said as the entered the room and sat.

"Let's see. Let me see your wrists"

Grace stretched her hands towards the doctor.

"Okay. Shines brighter but not as bright as a Were. I'm going to have your tiny amount of your blood taken and I promise it's not going to hurt."

"I'll leave you to rest for a while, you just be tired from our outing"

"No I'm not"

Grace let out before she could think. Almost facepalming herself.

"I'm sure you are. You don't have to stress up and on about. Or you prefer to join the everyone downstairs?"

Grace almost recoiled. No a million times. She didn't know all the people there and she sure wasn't going to be sitting and looking all by herself.

"No. No. I'm fine."

For some reason she even wanted him to stay. She found the feeling odd especially since she was head over heels in love with Dante just days before and now Rome? Maybe It was because of the bond between her and Rome and because she was his true mate she had feelings for him.

Feelings that could be debated. But oh, Rome was handsome. He was tall, huge, sexy, had a short hair he often packed to the center of his head but right now was at the back, and that hair hanging down right by his eye brow, she wanted to just run her hands in his hair, get lost in his eyes, kiss and hump him.

She did not just think of that last part. She flushed. Stupid sexual desires.

"Could you walk me around the garden?-- when you're done. I mean"

She said putting her hands out to stop him.

The corner of Rome lips quivered. If he spent another moment with her he was going to have her up and her back against the wall. Hell, fuck the heat.  He was supposed to be a caring and fine husband to her. And even get married the proper way or maybe give her a ring. A ring would be fine. He hesitated for a moment letting out a breath.

"I can take you now."

"Thank you."

... "I'm sorry I dragged you out..... Now that I think about it, you must be tired from our walk to the doctors office."

"I'm assure you I'm not."

He said turning to smile at her to which Grace responded by blushing like a total idiot.

"Um...."

The sight of a couple kissing as they held each other make her stop for a second.

"So, what do you do?"

"What do I do? As in for a living?"

"I hold the title of a lord in the city but here, I am the leader of my pack here"

"So you're rich?"

Another facepalm.

"If you call it that. I'm honored. Most of us work the proper way but we're taken care of."

"Oh, okay. It's just that we've never heard of you in the city. We only elders who have some kind of powers. When I saw Dante I -"

Her heart ached for him the moment she said his name. "I... I was surprised"

"The government keeps us hidden. Thinks we'll become a nuisance to the community"

"I don't think you're a nuisance"

Rome smiled again as he stared into her brown eyes. He felt compelled to reach out for her chin but he just looked away. He could feel her, her heat, want and need for him. But he wasn't going to touch her. Not if she did first

"I know"

She paused.

"Can we go over there? Where's that?"

She asked pointing to a building that stayed quite far away from the main house.

"It's the meeting room. For all of the Captains and guards..."

He said as he led her towards. He pushed the door open slowly allowing her to enter first.

"This is fine ..."

Her voice trailed off as she traced table with her fingers. Rome kept at the door, ready to leave at any moment. His veins pulsed as he kept himself under control, he desperately needed a run... To blow this off.

Grace pursed her lips. She could feel him too but why wasn't he making any moves? She could go mad if something isn't done to satiate her.

.... She walked round the chairs that surrounded the table and hit her leg against it.

"Ouch."

She cried out and like that Rome was there to help.

"Are you okay?"

"Yes" she said smiling devilishly. Wrapping her arms around him when he carried her up to sit on the table. Rome almost recoiled in shock. He'd never experienced this kind of want ever. Not this compelling need to just have her. His hand shook as he reached to examine her foot.

"Are you sure there's no bru-.. ise or anything?"

He swallowed hard as he asked.

Both of them could feel each other as their own.

"I'm fine"

Grace said once again, bringing her foot down so that his finger tips lifted the hems of her gown up.

The longing in each other's eyes were there. Rome lifted up his hands to cup her face but Grace was quick to glue her mouth to his.

It was wobbly at first, their heat almost exploding as they met each other's lips. The breath rushed out of Rome's airways as he clung onto her for dear life, shivering as he grabbed her with his other hand to draw and lift her gowns up. Grace's hands went into his hair, a wanting, needy moan escaping her lips as she  slid those hands to his chest to begin to undo the buttons of his vest. With one yank, Rome robbed her of her drawers digging his hands into her hip as he desperately kissed her.

He was clumsy likewise her, some forgotten papers on the table scattered onto the floor and even Rome couldn't undo the zipper on his trouser correctly. And when he was able to, swept it under the desk.

Both of them clung for dear life as he entered her. The tension was too much, it was for most other people but it was even for the leader of a whole pack.

*****

The door to the meeting room barged open and a group of men started to walk in only to turn around on the very heels they'd come.

"Finish up. Um.... Well have our meeting else where"
