LOGINI was busy tracing Jason Kingsley’s credit card and GPS and I was following his trail from gas station to gas station and shop to shop. This guy wasn’t a professional and he had just taken her, didn’t know where to yet but he was still using his card and he wasn’t that far from us.His phone had pinged off a tower just outside Harlowton and then it was switched off. I brought up a satellite image of the area and looked at the town. I found the location of where his phone had been switched off and I looked at the farmhouse a mile away.“Gotcha,” I said to the laptop and smiled.“Gotcha?” Jo asked as she walked through the sliding door and I laughed.“I was talking to the laptop,” I said and she looked at me.“Not weird at all, did you forget about Rayne’s penguin?” she asked me.“Shit, I did,” I said and stood up.“What’s keeping you so preoccupied?” she asked as she looked at the map on the laptop.“Malcolm’s niece disappeared and I think I just found her,” I said as she turned around
Noah and Fred spent a lot more time together unraveling the mystery that was Alex Jennings. They had traveled to White Sulphur Springs and Boulder and Noah would leave his phone with a pack member. If what Fred said was true then Alex would know his every move.“You do realize that they’re all in on it,” Noah said to him.“In on what exactly?” Fred asked him.“That Sinclair guy I met at Fort Bitterroot he introduced Alex as the second chair on the World Council, he knows exactly who and what Alex is,” Noah said.“Is that Sinclair guy even the real head Alpha?” Fred asked him. “I mean they could’ve concocted the whole thing as a set up.”“There’s only one way to find out, we’ll have to go see Christopher James and fish around, he could be in on it as well because he set the meeting up,” Noah said to him.“If he’s in on it and we give away too much information, what’s stopping them from coming after us?” Fred said.“Can’t you just hack into the Council’s site?” Noah asked him.“And do w
More than a year went by without any incidents and I began to relax. Noah’s location showed him in Leavenworth, mostly at his house and he seldom left the town borders and I relaxed more. Our lives went back to the way it was before I knew Noah Rivers existed. The kids grew at an alarming rate and before I knew it we had our second annual Council meeting and we encountered no problems. Levi didn’t show up for that meeting either but we didn’t replace him and I doubted we ever would.I kept myself busy with the construction of a meeting hall about twenty miles from our house on another property I’d bought that would mainly be used for Council Meetings. It kept me busy and I hadn’t killed anyone in six months. I didn’t really have time to go look for evil doers between the construction and the safehouse and I was quite surprised by my next visitor.I had just dropped Regen and Rayne off at daycare and I noticed his car following me. I drove to the grocery store and his car slowed down.
Noah opened the book again and continued reading. It felt surreal reading the words he wrote, but not remembering writing them. He had his work cut out for him. Someone wanted him to forget all this and now he was adamant at exposing the truth.I have no choice now, I’ll petition the World Council and give them Alex’s identity as the wolf killer. She forced my hand in doing this. Maybe when he’s dead I can go see her first as a friend and offer my sympathies. Once he’s cremated she’ll need someone to lean on and that will be me. I’ll be there for her and her feelings will come back.My dad managed to secure an appointment with Mr. Sinclair, head Alpha of the World Council, he would be in Montana at some retreat near Bitterroot Lake and we could go see him. I couldn’t believe our luck because it’s almost impossible to see the head Alpha and I would meet with him in six days.In six days I’ll stand in front of him and tell him that Alex Jennings is the wolf killer everybody’s wondering
Noah sat behind his desk and opened the drawer. He looked at the notebook and frowned. Written in the front was Ulfr Banamaðr. Why had they driven to Bitterroot Lake and asked the head Alpha to join the Council? He opened the book and started to read the last few entries.I’m finally home and then the heartbreaking news that Jo didn’t wait for me. I’m not mad, everybody thought I was dead. I lay awake at night because the nightmares of what I went through are so terrible that I don’t want to close my eyes. My house still looks the same but it’s empty without her.She was the one thing that kept me going. The memory of Jo is what kept me alive through the torture, the starvation and the hopes of coming back to her kept me sane. I never want to feel the pain I felt when I came home and she wasn’t here.I called Mark because Jo’s number doesn’t exist anymore. She got married almost three years ago and she has two kids. My father had to tell me that the baby Jo was expecting was never bor
I was standing in front of the windows that looked out at the Bitterroot River. I would go to a back room as soon as Noah and his father arrived. Russel and Ray were also there and would act as Kiran’s Zetas. I had told Kiran my plan a few nights ago as we sat on the verandah and he had smiled as I told him what I had in mind.“Showtime,” I said as I turned around and walked to the study just down the hall. Two minutes later the knock came at the front door. Russel opened the front door and Ray stood next to him.“Afternoon, we have an appointment to see Mr. Sinclair,” I heard another man’s voice. That must be his father, the current Alpha.“Name?” Russel asked and I smiled at his arrogant tone of voice.“Thomas Rivers, Alpha of the Leavenworth pack and my son, Noah Rivers,” he said.“Follow me,” Russel said and I heard the door close. Kiran was in the living room having a drink and he was wearing a suit and he reminded me so much of Malachi at that moment but I didn’t say it.“Mr. Si
Nine months after our honeymoon, Jo gave birth to a boy. We named him Regen. He was healthy, beautiful and perfect. At night when I woke up, I’d find her standing in his room, just looking at him and I couldn’t be happier.“I can’t believe we made him,” she whispered.“Yeah, I did all the hard work
Two weeks later, Levi told Thalia that he and Malachi were traveling to Montana to spend the weekend at the Council’s retreat near Bitterroot Lake. I started thinking when Thalia told me that because I didn’t really want to go to Alaska to see Malachi. What I had in mind wasn’t something you did ov
Kiran stepped into the drawing room and closed the door behind him. I was standing in front of the window and turned around when the door closed.“Hello, Kiran,” I said to him. He had an interesting smell to him and he looked at me oddly. Half breed, somehow I just knew this.“You mask your smell a
Things didn’t really simmer down a lot. You could cut the tension in that house with a knife and I felt a bit uncomfortable. I realized soon enough what Malachi meant by Kiran going off the rails. His emotions were everywhere and he didn’t hide them from me, even though I was a stranger, he didn’t
